This work focuses on the wave propagation in graphene platelets (GPLs) reinforced piezoelectric polymer composite plates. The GPL volume fractions in the multilayered structure vary step-wisely to emulate a functionally graded profile. The governing equations for the piezoelectric composite plate are obtained using the reissner-Mindlin theory in conjunction with the Hamilton's principle. A polynomial equation describing the dispersion spectrum relations is formulated using the closed-form solutions. The structural symmetry enables the wave modes decoupling into symmetric and antisymmetric parts. The piezoelectric plate spectral element with fourdegrees of freedom per node including the out-of-plane motions and electric potential is developed. The present spectral element model is verified by comparing with the reportedresults. The dependences of distribution pattern, weight fraction, geometric factor, and piezoelectricity of GPL on the dispersion characteristics are demonstrated. Furthermore, the phase evolution, amplitude attenuation, time-of-flight variation, and waveboundary interaction are revealed through the transient responses. These findings supply an instruction for the design and wave modulation of smart piezoelectric composites.
