Super-resolution of SAr Target Images Using real-ESrGAN

To identify small targets via deep learning from micro-satellite synthetic aperture radar (SAr) low-resolution (Lr) images, small-target learning data must be obtained by considering the concept of micro-satellite SAr operating systems. However, securing actual micro-satellite SAr small-target Lr images is difficult. Super-resolution (Sr) technology is necessary to improve target identification performance for an SAr Lr image. In this study, we obtained Sr results for SAr target and background Lr images, which were converted using real-ESrGAN. We utilized real-ESrGAN with a peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNr)-oriented model that considered the noise characteristics of scattering points when SAr images were generated, to improve the identification of the SAr target Lr images. We also applied Sr to MSTAr SAr target and real satellite SAr images using bicubic interpolation, real-ESrGAN, real-ESrNet, and real-ESr models. Finally, we analyzed the PSNr and structural similarity (SSIM) for a similarity evaluation of the SAr Sr images. The experimental results revealed an average PSNr of 25.22 dB and SSIM of 0.68 compared to the original SAr images. This indicated the effectiveness of real-ESrGAN in removing subtle noise characteristics, owing to the more refined and high-resolution scattering points obtained with this method. © ICrOS 2024.

After the adoption of MArPOL 73/78 Annex(VI) for the prevention of air pollution from ships in 1997, the regulation of the emission of environmental pollutants from the maritime transport sector began in earnest. Just a few years ago, the international shipping industry agreed to reduce its carbon emissions by 50% from 2008 levels by 2050. However, from 1971 to 2019, the amount of CO2 emitted from ships almost doubled. Accordingly, efforts to reduce emissions and realize carbon neutrality in the field of maritime transportation are becoming more intense. In this paper, a hybrid system with a generator and battery was constructed by applying a battery to an existing internal combustion engine-oriented marine power generation system. Accordingly, the control algorithm of the energy management system was designed to improve the efficiency of the generator and prevent unnecessary parallel operations. Also, a simulator was designed to verify the algorithm of the energy management system. As a result, the battery was controlled to respond appropriately to the electric power demand of the scenario that is designed based on a large container vessel. According to the designed control algorithm, it was confirmed that the number of operating generators could be reduced by preventing additional generator start-up in the designed scenarios. In the future, it is expected that generator efficiency operation and environmentally friendly operation will be possible through battery system. © 2024 Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers. This paper proposes an algorithm to solve the dC Link voltage unbalance problem in a single-phase three-level converter used as a power compensation device for electric railways. 3-level back-to-back converter was linked to the output terminals of the M (Main) phase and the T (Teaser) phase. The T-phase converter transmits power to the system, and the M-phase converter controls the dC Link to maintain the reference value, at this time, a difference occurs between the upper and lower capacitors. dC Link Voltage Unbalance must be balanced because it shortens the device life and cannot control the desired control. In order to verify the performance of the proposed dC Link voltage unbalance improvement algorithm, simulation and experiment were conducted on PSCAd simulation and 5kVA rPC (railway Power Conditioner) simulator. The effect of the dC Link voltage unbalance improvement algorithm proposed was verified by reducing the voltage unbalance after applying the algorithm. © 2024 Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers. Multi-Port Smart Transformers (MPST) can integrate different energy sources, loads, and energy storage systems, optimizing the energy flows between these elements. This makes them an interesting component for the optimal control of energy flows in future Smart grids that integrate renewable energy resources, electric vehicle chargers, prosumers, or energy storage systems. In the AC electric railway, reactive power is generated due to the inductive characteristics of the vehicle load and the capacitor bank. When the power system supplies reactive power, a penalty is incurred due to a low power factor. In addition, regenerative power is generated when braking a railroad vehicle, and electricity rates can be reduced if it is controlled and used as load power. This paper verifies the effectiveness through on-site test data that controls the reactive power generated when operating a railway vehicle through rPC, reduces the reactive power supplied by the power system, and controls the regenerative power and utilizes it as load power. In this study, experiment was conducted to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of the absorber for the absorption chiller. The experiment was conducted under experimental conditions including the operating range of the actual absorption chiller, targeting three types of heat transfer tubes (bare, floral, end-cross floral) mainly used in absorbers. In the first analysis, the experimental conditions affecting the response value(ref, Uo and ho) were analyzed, and ref and Csol for as the main experimental conditions. According to the experimental results, end-cross floral was the best performing heat transfer tube, and when the ref was 30, the performance was improved by 39.29% compared with the bare tube. Finally, we proposed the experimental correlations of Nusselt numbers for the three types of heat transfer tubes that yielded a ± 25% error band. © 2024 The Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers.

One of the goals of Natural Language Processing (NLP) is transforming sentences to output relevant information in a given context. For instance, relevant applications such as chatbots, translation systems, and sentiment analysis classifiers work that way. The advance of NLP techniques made it possible to automate complex tasks, such as converting text queries to tabular data queries, specifically SQL, to return contextualized data. Since it is crucial in many areas to interpret the data to obtain information and consider the particularities of a text-to-SQL parser, we propose a SQL processing engine whose internals are customized with natural language instructions. dBVinci is our proposed processing model which is based on OpenAI's GPT-3.5 Text-davinci-003 engine that can perform language tasks such as text-to-SQL, consistent instruction-following, and supports inserting completions within text. Our framework is on top of GPT-3.5 and decomposes complex SQL queries into a series of simple processing steps, described in natural language. dBVinci outperforms well-known text-to-SQL methods (e.g., rAT-SQL and SQLOVA) reaching 89.7% of execution accuracy, considering WikiSQL benchmark. We also obtain impressive performance without the need of large scale annotated dataset for fine-tuning the downstream task, by achieving 90% accuracy in zero-shot setting. Therefore, we conclude that to obtain competitive results using the Pre-trained Language Model (PLM), there is no need of the "pre-training+fine-tuning"paradigm, besides that, when employing zero-shot in the proposed method, we can achieve promising results. © 2023 ACM.

Quite operation of home appliances is one of the most significant criteria used by customers, when they select the exact device among several devices with similar functionality. In such circumstances, even minor noise, which happens quite rarely, may negatively impact on the choice of customers. Thus, makers of various device for home wage a war on every excessive noise. As a result, various methods for noise control became an attractive and popular topic, involving talented researchers. This paper studies acoustic noise in preheating mode of compressors, where motor does not rotate thus decreasing background noise. In these conditions other minor noises become notable and significantly impact noise profile of the compressors. In the preheating mode of compressor, the dC current is injected into motor windings warming them. This heat transfers through the motor parts and compressor shell to the oil located at the bottom of compressor. This operation is required in order to decrease oil viscosity and guarantee normal operation of mechanical part. However injected current produces noise, which is undesired and should be decreased as much as possible. This research proposes and analyzes several approaches to compressor preheating and select the most silent one. © 2023 IEEE.
