This study describes the lessons learned from designing, deploying and analysing the results from different travel satisfaction survey tools which measures the travellers’ door-to-door travel satisfaction. The travel satisfaction measurement survey tools tested consisted of two types of smartphone applications (a satellite navigation app and a game app), an on-line survey, a paper-based semi-structured questionnaire and a focus group questionnaire. Each of the measurement tools comprised the same set of basic questions, but in different formats, aimed at exploring the pros and cons of each tool among different groups of travellers. The data collection was carried out at eight different European cities and five FIA motorist networks. 5,275 valid responses were gathered from the survey. Further analysis results show that different survey methods performed better in different sites. The satisfaction that was gathered via main trip leg does not necessarily correspond with overall satisfaction of the door-to-door journey. The results of this study highlight the need for more inclusive, complete, door-to-door, travel survey measurements.

An inverse metal only reflectarray antenna consisting of multiple variable height conducting cells is designed at millimeter wave frequency. All reflecting elements are only made up of metal so that there is no dielectric loss in the antenna. Simulation result shows that the radiation efficiency of designed antenna is comparable with conventional parabolic reflector.

Ball bearing is widely used in a variety of machines including the transportation equipments of the automobiles and airplanes. Flaking failure is a common problem for ball bearing and it is caused by shear-mode fatigue crack growth under cyclic shear stress. Further, it is known that the premature flaking is attributed to the combined effect of hydrogen penetration into the material and cyclic shear stress during the operation. Therefore, in order to ensure the integrity of ball bearing, it is necessary to clarify the effect of hydrogen on shear-mode fatigue crack growth behavior, in particular, the threshold behavior. The evaluation of the shear-mode crack growth behavior is not easy because mode I crack branching occurs easily. Our previous studies revealed that it is required to apply static compression in the direction of specimen axis to attain a stable shear-mode fatigue crack growth. In addition, successive hydrogen supply to the specimen is essential for the evaluation of hydrogen effect on the fatigue threshold because hydrogen emits from the specimen during the fatigue test. In other words, the hydrogen-precharging method, commonly used for the research on hydrogen embrittlement, is not appropriate for the evaluation of fatigue threshold. In this study, to solve these problems, we have developed a novel, easy-to-use experimental method to evaluate the threshold behavior of shear-mode fatigue crack in the presence of hydrogen. The fundamental principle of the method is introduced in this paper.

Microscopic observation of shear-mode fatigue crack growth behavior under the condition of continuous hydrogen-charging

rolling bearings facilitate the smooth motion of moving mechanical transmission devices substantially reducing the energy loss. However, flaking failure caused in bearings by rolling contact fatigue can crucially deteriorate the integrity of an overall mechanical system composed using bearings. It is understood nowadays that this phenomenon is intimately associated with shear-mode (Mode II and III) fatigue crack growth caused by cyclic shear stress in the presence of large compression. Further, a problem has become of importance that the premature flaking in ball bearings could be caused by the assistance of the penetration of hydrogen into material during the operation. In this study, torsional fatigue test of a bearing steel (JIS SUJ2) was performed by using a newly-developed method of continuous hydrogen-charging. Based on the microscopic observation, it was found that continuous hydrogen-charging had an influence on the shear-mode fatigue crack growth behavior in the high-cycle fatigue regime and reduced the threshold level.

Burned skeletal remains often undermine the anthropological methodology's reliability due to heat-induced changes (HIC). research based on controlled experimental burnings has tried to address this problem, but may not replicate real scenarios as it employs homogeneous heating provided by electrical furnace. In contrast, real fire situations are often more heterogeneous with intermittent heating caused by the constant on and off action of the flames. The objective of this research was to assess ihe value of spectroscopic analyses on dry skeletal remains depends on the type of burning event: i) electric furnace (homogeneous) and ii) open-air ignited trailer (heterogeneous). The association between organic phase pyrolysis and temperature and between the inorganic phase and individual chemometric indices was investigated in order to examine for differences. A sample of 70 right antimere belonging to the 21st Century Identified Skeletal Collection (CEI/XXI) and of a sample of 30 antimeres from the Non-Identified Skeletal Collection (NISC) from the Santarem Cemetery housed at the Laboratory of Forensic Science in the University of Coimbra, Portugal were used in this study. Both skeletal collections were burned with temperatures ranging from 500 °C to 1050 °C. The methods used to analyze the samples are vibrational spectroscopy and inelastic neutron scattering spectroscopy. It was possible to observe through spectroscopic analyses that in the organic phase, a relation between the concentration of the chemical elements and maximum temperature was present in both samples. The same was observed for the inorganic phase and the chemometric indices. results of this small experiment suggest that maximum temperature estimation and the individualization of commingled burned skeletal remains based on heat-induced recrystalization and diagenesis are possible in varied burning conditions. In the field of the manufacturing industry, it has been often discussed that high-mix low-volume manufacturing is required to meet a variety of customer needs. In such a situation, cellular manufacturing and U shaped production lines are often adopted. Linear synchronous motors (LSMs) are appropriate to realize U shaped automation lines because of its strong features such as flexibility of layout, high efficiency and position control performance. However, a problem seems to lie in the fact that LSMs need a position sensor which is expensive and has less durability. For this reason, the position sensorless control for LSMs is required. In addition, the method should be easy to apply to all kinds of LSMs. Specifically, the method should require no saliency and be apply to a LSM which has a complex track including curvilinear section. Based on such a background, this paper presents a position estimation method for a Linear and Curvilinear Synchronous Motor with an accelerometer which is inexpensive and easy to attach to LSMs. As the proposed method in this paper does not require any motor saliency, it can be quickly applied to all LSMs. In this paper, the proposed method is shown and verified by experimental results.

Epilepsy is a highly heritable disorder affecting over 50 million people worldwide, of which about one-third are resistant to current treatments. Here we report a multi-ancestry genome-wide association study including 29,944 cases, stratified into three broad categories and seven subtypes of epilepsy, and 52,538 controls. We identify 26 genome-wide significant loci, 19 of which are specific to genetic generalized epilepsy (GGE). We implicate 29 likely causal genes underlying these 26 loci. SNP-based heritability analyses show that common variants explain between 39.6% and 90% of genetic risk for GGE and its subtypes. Subtype analysis revealed markedly different genetic architectures between focal and generalized epilepsies. Gene-set analyses of GGE signals implicate synaptic processes in both excitatory and inhibitory neurons in the brain. Prioritized candidate genes overlap with monogenic epilepsy genes and with targets of current antiseizure medications. Finally, we leverage our results to identify alternate drugs with predicted efficacy if repurposed for epilepsy treatment.

A synthetic aperture sonar gathers echoes from large area of seafloor per a ping, therefore the sonar needs wider width of the beam than Side scan sonar. But if the elements of the projector is just one element, it have to be small to widen the beam, and must be low sensitivity. One solutions to raise the sensitivity of the sonar is to use array as a receiver. The array is not only necessary for high sensitivity, but also the motion compensation and higher mapping rate in synthetic aperture process. Many synthetic aperture sonar are now constructed with a single transmitter with an arrayed receiver. But the projector remains small and single in many synthetic aperture sonars. The maximum detection range of synthetic aperture sonar was no longer than side scan sonar at same sonic frequency yet. To extend the sonar range, we proposed multi-channel projector whose elements lined vertically. We consider that the intensity of the projection beam increases keeping its width, by controlling a timing of the projection from each element. In addition, if the projector can receive echoes, 3d-maps can be generated simultaneously like a multi-beam echo sounder. This means synthesizing aperture process become more precise with the correct altitudes. In June 2014, we carried out survey with the synthetic aperture sonar totally for 40 hours over 5 days at offSanriku near border of Miyagi and Iwate prefecture. We evaluated the projector performance through detections of many artificial objects such as underwater reefs and sunken ship in the survey. We confirmed that projection beam was widen keeping projection power and maximum detection range was over 400 m in slant range. In addition, bottom detection process which is before step of 3d-mapping became easy.

Wireless communication is flexible and reliable connectivity for everywhere. Now a day's human follows the reliable and simple way to handle and control any technology. In this paper, we try to make life simple and easy to control the peripheral, where no matter which protocol user want for installation. i.e. Bluetooth, WI-Fi, Miwi etc. And also control the peripheral using Web service (http) or Android application as a way of IoT (Internet of things). Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications describes how the Internet will expand as sensors and intelligence are connected to physical things such as physical assets or consumer devices and these things in turn are connected to the Internet. In this project we analyse the data packet of different nodes in window as well as Linux terminal for detecting fault or error in any particular node. We are using low power (5V) host device instead of computer i.e. *** paper show actual way of implementation in the world of wireless sensor node. User can access and also control the peripheral anywhere from the world via Internet.
