The rapid growth of wireless data and complexity of 4G systems drive new design challenges forrF chipset and handheld/mobile device manufacturers along with carriers. The wide and many frequency bands to be supported in multimode phone pose severe rF design challenges both from the chipset and antenna point of view. Generally, rF chipset and antenna designs are performed independently and there is little exchange between rFIC and antenna designers. This paper will provide a perspective in order to illustrate how the wireless industry can innovate and improve rF system performances leveraging a closer collaboration between rFIC and antenna communities.

A 0.23 inch nHd+ OLEd microdisplay has been developed with high-resolution 7.8μm pixel pitch, long life, and lower power consumption than prior OLEd microdisplays. This newly developed OLEd microdisplay is suitable for wearable displays and viewfinders. A 0.39 inch XGA and 0.7 inch Full-Hd microdisplay will also be discussed.

Previous video cameras were big and heavy. However, CCd image sensors (CCd-ISs) replaced video camera tubes, so that video cameras became smaller and lighter, and video cameras as consumer products were introduced. Moreover, CCd-ISs created a market fordigital still cameras and they replaced film cameras because of they were easy to use. However, CMOS image sensors (CISs) were incorporated into cellular phones that did not require high image resolution. CCd-ISs were then used fordigital still cameras; however, their market share drastically declined with the appearance of back illuminated CMOS image sensors (BI-CISs) that had a better signal to noise ratio than CCd-ISs. LOGIC chip stacked BI-CISs were launched after that, which could improve the characteristics of cameras, increase their functions, and enable them to be miniaturized. This paperdescribes the evolution of CISs and their applications utilizing image quality, 3d integration, and wavelength.

The hydraulic behaviour of a rock material structure is a major feature for its design and safety assess- ment. Similar to all other physical problems, in order to enclose the governing equations systems and achieve a solution, the hydraulic characteristics of these materials need to be determined experimentally and implemented then into adopted thermo-dynamical models. This paper covers the process of the design, construction and operation of an experimental rig built for this specific purpose. Using the constructed large-scale permeameter, tests have been conducted. The non-linear hydraulic behaviour of various mate- rials under extreme turbulent conditions, where reynolds numberreaches unprecedented values, has not been studied before. Preliminary results are presented anddiscussed.

The mechanical and electrical properties of graphene oxide (GO)/ Al2O3 have been investigated. Al2O3 nanoparticles were doped on graphene oxide (GO) films using water-electrophoretic deposition method. The direct synthesis of large-scale GO/Al2O3 films using transfer imprinting processes on a flexible polydimethylsiloxane (PdMS) substrate was conducted. The effect of the GO/ Al2O3 film layers on the optical, electrical, and mechanical properties were discussed.

An innovative LdS 4G antenna solution operating in the 698-960 MHz band is presented. It is composed of two radiating elements recombined in a broadband single feed antenna system using a multiband matching circuit design. Matching interfaces are synthesized thanks to lumped components placed on the Fr4 PCB supporting the LdS antenna. Measurement shows a reflection coefficient better than -6 dB over the 698-960 MHz band, with a 30% peak total efficiency. Measurement using a realistic phone casing showed the same performances. The proposed approach can be extended to additional bands, offering an innovative antenna solution able to address the multi band challenge related to 4G applications.
