A carbon nanotube field emission display(CNT FEd) panel with a 2 inch diagonal size was fabricated by using a screen printing of a prepared photo-sensitive CNT paste and vacuum in-line sealing technology. After a surface treatment of the patterned CNT, only the carbon nanotube tips are uniformly exposed on the surface. The diameter of the exposed CNTs are usually about 20nm. The sealing temperature of the panel was around 390 °C and the vacuum level was obtained with 1.4×10−5 torr at the sealing. The field emission properties of the diode type CNT FEd panel were characterized. Now, we are developing a triode type CNT FEd with a self-aligned gate-emitter structure.

This paper presents the latest Kaplan turbine rehabilitation project for Funagira Power Station in Japan completed by J-POWEr Group in collaboration with Toshiba Corporation. Area of rehabilitation was restricted to guide vane andrunner. The main goal of the rehabilitation project was to expand the operating range of the existing turbine in terms of discharge and power with high operational stability, low noise as well as high cavitation performance. Computational Fluids dynamics and model test were used to optimize the shape of guide vane andrunner in development stage. Finally, field tests andrunner inspection were carried out to confirm the performance of the new turbine. It was found that the new turbine has excellent performance in efficiency, power output, operational stability compared with existing turbine. Moreover, no sign of cavitation on the runner blade surface was observed after 5078 hours of operation near 100% load.

Hence it is necessary to develop clean and efficient coal gasification plants also known as greenhouse power plants. One of the main components in green house power plant is gasifier. The mathematical model developed by ALSTOM for gasifier is highly coupled multivariable system with transfer function of the order of 25. Handling such higher order transfer functions for controllerdesign is found to be very difficult. It is necessary to have lower order transfer functions. This paperdiscusses the applicability of two methods namely Algebraic method andreduced Order Approximations to get the reduced order transfer functions. The simulation results show that the algebraic method is more suitable than reduced order approximation.

The breakdown strength of vegetable-based oil (VBO) and mineral oil is compared by means of experimental determination of breakdown voltage. These oils were tested under AC and positive lightning impulse voltages for uniform and non-uniform electrical field. The oil gap varied from 2 mm up to 85 mm. The results show same or higher AC breakdown strength of VBO compared to mineral oil for small gaps and uniform electrical field, whereas for lightning impulses and non-uniform field breakdown strength of VBO is reduced.

In this paper a Xenon filled coaxial dielectric barrierdischarge (dBd) has been studied to understand the high pressure, non-equilibrium, nonthermal plasma discharge. A quartz coaxial dBd tube (Id: 6mm, Od: 12 mm) at 400 mbar Xenon filled pressure has been used in the experiment. different applied voltage waveforms at 30 kHz using rF generator as well as pulse power source have been applied to the discharge electrodes for the generation of microdischarges. Visual images of discharge and electrical waveform confirm the diffused type discharges. The knowledge obtained by dynamic processes of dBds in the discharge gap explains quantitatively the mechanism that is obtained in ignition, development and extinction of dBds. The behaviour of different discharge parameters has also been analyzed. From the experimental results and equivalent electrical circuit, the dynamic nature of equivalent capacitance has been reported. The relative intensity analysis of the second continuum of the Xe discharge (172 nm) has been carried out fordifferent applied voltages and it is found that the radiation power has increased with voltage.

For the first time, based on the high crystalline quality of n-GaN on Si template, highly efficient InGaN/GaN LEds grown on 4-inch silicon substrates comparable to those on sapphire substrates have been successfully demonstrated. At driving current of 350 mA, the overall output power of 1 × 1 mm 2 LEd chips exceeded 420 mW and forward voltage was 3.2 V under un-encapsulated condition, which is the best value among the reported values of blue LEd grown on Si substrates. The internal quantum efficiency of 76% at injection current of 350 mAwas measured.
