As part of a research project, a small gait analysis device is being developed that will be used outside of home by the patients themselves. Its main purpose will be to record accurate gait measurements in patients with Parkinson's disease and proceed with in-depth analysis of the gait characteristics. A key feature of the device will be its small size, which creates specific requirements in terms of device consumption restrictions due to the small size of the battery and the need for autonomous operation for more than ten hours. This research work describes, on the one hand, the firmware of the device with an emphasis on the functions that will be implemented;and, on the other, the device software which will support the process that will be adopted for reading and processing data from the devices placed on patients' feet to record the gait characteristics of patients on a continuous basis. Using these computational approaches, we developed and carried out an experiment with a 1.60 m tall experimental female subject. We strapped a device to the subject's right ankle and instructed her to take five steps with her right foot, turn 180 degrees, and repeat with the same foot. © 2022

Tribological behaviour of Ti/HA and Ti/SiO₂ functionally graded materials fabricated at different strain rates

Functionally graded materials (FGMs) have found extensive applications in the biomedical industry, due to their excellent mechanical and tribological properties. However, new FGM fabrication techniques are yet to be examined for possible enhancements in their properties. This study investigates the tribological properties of Titanium/Hydroxyapatite (Ti-HA) and Titanium/Silicon oxide (Ti-SiO₂) FGM samples fabricated by three die compaction techniques for the application of dental implants. The constituting powder particles were functionally dispersed and mixed using a newly-designed mixer and consolidated by hot dynamic and quasi-static compaction techniques at three different strain rates. Microstructure, hardness, wear resistance, wear penetration depth, and friction coefficient of the FGM samples were then studied in this work. Optical microscopy images exhibited smooth dispersion of powders conforming to a linear grading function. Vickers hardness values of the FGM samples was found to be directly proportional to the strain rate and inversely proportional to the content of the reinforcing phase (HA or SiO₂). Higher strain rate also resulted in higher wear resistance and lower wear penetration depth in all FGMs, with the highest wear resistance being observed in the samples prepared using the Split Hopkinson Bar. Similarly, the coefficient of friction was also shown to be the lowest in Ti-HA samples prepared using Split Hopkinson Bar. Further, microscopic observations revealed that adhesion, delamination and abrasion as the dominant wear mechanisms in all FGM samples. It was concluded that the Ti-HA sample produced by the SHB method enjoyed superior tribological properties, being comparable to that of natural human teeth. © 2022 Elsevier Ltd

The field of natural language processing (NLP) has dramatically expanded within the last decade. Many human-being applications are conducted daily via NLP tasks, starting from machine translation, speech recognition, text generation and recommendations, Part-of-Speech tagging (POS), and Named-Entity recognition (NEr). However, low-resourced languages, such as the Central-Kurdish language (CKL), mainly remain unexamined due to shortage of necessary resources to support their development. The POS tagging task is the base of other NLP tasks;for example, the POS tag set has been used to standardized languages to provide the relationship between words among the sentences, followed by machine translation and text recommendation. Specifically, for the CKL, most of the utilized or provided POS tagsets are neither standardized nor comprehensive. To this end, this study presented an accurate and comprehensive POS tagset for the CKL to provide better performance of the Kurdish NLP tasks. The article also collected most of the POS tags from different studies as well as from Kurdish linguistic experts to standardized part-of-speech tags. The proposed POS tagset is designed to annotate a large CKL corpus and support Kurdish NLP tasks. The initial investigations of this study via comparison with the Universal dependencies framework for standard languages, show that the proposed POS tagset can streamline or correct sentences more accurately for Kurdish NLP tasks. © 2025, CC BY.

The potential loss caused by defects is one of the most important factors affecting the performance of perovskite photovoltaic devices. CdS/ZnS quantum dots (Qds) have good hydrophobicity and can achieve the dual effects of waterproofing hydrophobic and defect passivation of perovskite films. The Lowest Unoccupied Molecular Orbital (LUMO) energy level of CdS/ZnS Qds doped perovskite film decreases from -3.75 eV to -3.85 eV. The barrier of photo-generated charge transport from the perovskite layer to the electron transport layer is significantly reduced, which is conducive to the enhancement of built-in potential. The density of trap states is reduced and the non-radiative recombination of carriers is suppressed. CdS/ZnS Qds doped perovskite film is dense and has a larger roughness, which helps to increase the contact area with the electron transport layer, thereby improving the charge transportation. Finally, the highest efficiency of the device with Qds reaches 21.42%, and the open-circuit voltage ( V oc ) and the short-circuit current density ( J sc ) are significantly increased compared with undoped ones. The hydrophobicity and stability of the device have also been improved. Therefore, the effect of CdS/ZnS Qds on passivation may provide new ideas for the efficient and stable perovskite solar cells. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Modern cosmological research still thoroughly debates the discrepancy between local probes and the Cosmic Microwave Background observations in the Hubble constant (H0) measurements, ranging from 4σ to 6σ. In the current study we examine this tension using the Supernovae Ia (SNe Ia) data from the Pantheon, PantheonPlus, Joint Lightcurve Analysis (JLA), and dark Energy Survey (dES) catalogs together with their combination called Master Sample containing 3789 SNe Ia, and dividing all of them into redshift-ordered bins. Two main binning techniques are presented: the equipopulation and the equispace in the log z. We perform a Markov-Chain Monte Carlo analysis (MCMC) for each bin to determine the H0 value, estimating it within the standard flat ΛCdM and the w0waCdM models. These H0 values are then fitted with the following phenomenological function: H0(z) = H˜0/(1 + z)α, where H˜0 is a free parameter representing H0(z) fitted at z = 0, and α is the evolutionary parameter. Our results indicate a decreasing trend characterized by α ∼ 0.01 whose consistency with zero range from 1.00σ at 3 bins in the Pantheon sample with the w0waCdM model to ≥ 6σ at 12 bins with the JLA and dES samples within the ΛCdM model. Such a trend in the SNe Ia catalogs could be due to evolution with redshift for the SNe Ia astrophysical variables or unveiled selection biases. Alternatively, intrinsic physics, possibly the f(r) theory of gravity, could be responsible for this trend. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Summary Being the second-largest country in the Middle East, Iran has a long history of civilisation during which several dynasties have been overthrown and established and health-related structures have been reorganised. Iran has had the replacement of traditional practices with modern medical treatments, emergence of multiple pioneer scientists and physicians with great contributions to the advancement of science, environmental and ecological changes in addition to large-scale natural disasters, epidemics of multiple communicable diseases, and the shift towards non-communicable diseases in recent decades. Given the lessons learnt from political instabilities in the past centuries and the approaches undertaken to overcome health challenges at the time, Iran has emerged as it is today. Iran is now a country with a population exceeding 80 million, mainly inhabiting urban regions, and has an increasing burden of non-communicable diseases, including cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, diabetes, malignancies, mental disorders, substance abuse, and road injuries.

during the implementation of ICT in school, we do not explicit the relationship of factors by exemplars. This study will contrast three ICT evaluation frameworks for school education in England, American and Ireland, putting forward a new ICT evaluation framework, including the factors influencing ICT developing standards. At the same time, presenting a systematic model to describe relationship by analyzing 40 typical exemplars, which consist of seven elements: ICT Leadership, student ability, teacher professional development, teaching method, learning space, curriculum resources and evaluation method.
