In traditional ELM and its improved versions suffer from the problems of outliers or noises due to overfitting and imbalance due to distribution. We propose a novel hybrid adaptive fuzzy ELM(HA-FELM), which introduces a fuzzy membership function to the traditional ELM method to deal with the above problems. We define the fuzzy membership function not only basing on the distance between each sample and the center of the class but also the density among samples which based on the quantum harmonic oscillator model. The proposed fuzzy membership function overcomes the shortcoming of the traditional fuzzy membership function and could make itself adjusted according to the specific distribution of different samples adaptively. Experiments show the proposed HA-FELM can produce better performance than SVM, ELM, and rELM in text classification. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A WL-SPPIM semantic model for document classification

—In this paper, we explore SPPIM-based text classification method, and the experiment reveals that the SPPIM method is equal to or even superior than SGNS method in text classification task on three international and standard text datasets, namely 20newsgroups, reuters52 and WebKB. Comparing to SGNS, although SPPMI provides a better solution, it is not necessarily better than SGNS in text classification tasks.. Based on our analysis, SGNS takes into the consideration of weight calculation during decomposition process, so it has better performance than SPPIM in some standard datasets. Inspired by this, we propose a WL-SPPIM semantic model based on SPPIM model, and experiment shows that WL-SPPIM approach has better classification and higher scalability in the text classification task compared with LdA, SGNS and SPPIM approaches. Universities are constantly searching for ways that prepare students as effective global professionals. At the same time, cyber infrastructure leverages computing, information, and communication technology to perform research, often in an international context. In this paper we discuss a novel model, called the Cyber infrastructure Internship Program (CIP), which serves both of these goals. Specifically, students apply or develop cyber infrastructure to solve challenging research problems, but they do this via summer internships abroad. CIP has been implemented at three different Universities: The University of California San diego in the US, Osaka University in Japan and and Monash University in Australia. We discuss details of the schemes and provide some initial evaluations of their success. © 2011 IEEE.

Most previous workflow scheduling research focused on scheduling a single workflow on parallel systems. recent researches show that utilizing idle time slots between scheduled tasks is a promising direction for efficient multiple workflow scheduling. Stavrinides and Karatza proposed a list scheduling approach to efficient utilization of the idle time slots through bin packing techniques. In this paper, we elaborate on this direction and develop a new approach to further improve multiple workflow scheduling performance through two techniques. The first, in contrast with the list scheduling approach, is clustering the tasks within workflows into groups before allocation. This can reduce inter-task communication cost and thus improve workflow execution performance. The second technique tries to make a balance between tasks' start time and the fitness of idle time slots when allocating task groups. The proposed approach has been evaluated with a series of simulation experiments and compared to the previous method. The results show that our approach outperforms the previous method significantly, up to 51% performance improvement in terms of average makespan. © 2012 IEEE.

We explore the scaling properties of the elliptic and quadrangular flow of deuterons and protons in Au+Au reactions at a beam energy of 1.23 AGeV within the UrQMd approach. These investigations are of great interest for the HAdES experiment at GSI that has recently studied the flow of light nuclei. In the present studies, deuterons are formed via phase-space coalescence. Our results agree well with the experimental data, if for this low energy a hard equation of state is considered. We observe that protons and deuterons show direct scaling with the mass number A. We also see scaling of higher order flow harmonics, e.g. υ4 ∼ υ 2 2. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Intellectual property information service industry has obtained swift and dramatic development in recent years. However, the majority of intellectual property agencies are small or medium size enterprises which are small-scale, less funding and tech-support, scattered layout, and have strong demands. Cloud-computing as an emerging technology presents significance for small and medium-sized enterprises of intellectual property service industry. A business hosting cloud described in this paper is designed for the business consumers referred above. At first, this paper will present the current situation of intellectual property service, and a business hosting cloud platform faced to the intellectual property industry will be proposed. In the second part, this paper will describe the architecture of the business hosting cloud which is mainly composed of the business hosting platform and the management test platform. In previous work, the project team did a lot of research on virtualization technology of devices, and a uniform resource pool of this cloud-platform will be detailed as well as the distributed object storage and the elastic block storage that is used for effcient data access. At last, this paper will present related functions of the uniform resource pool, the distributed object storage, the elastic block storage, and the management test platform described in the second part.

Text classification based on ensemble extreme learning machine

In this paper, we propose a novel approach based on cost-sensitive ensemble weighted extreme learning machine;we call this approach AE1-WELM. We apply this approach to text classification. AE1-WELM is an algorithm including balanced and imbalanced multiclassification for text classification. Weighted ELM assigning the different weights to the different samples improves the classification accuracy to a certain extent, but weighted ELM considers the differences between samples in the different categories only and ignores the differences between samples within the same categories. We measure the importance of the documents by the sample information entropy, and generate cost-sensitive matrix and factor based on the document importance, then embed the cost-sensitive weighted ELM into the AdaBoost.M1 framework seamlessly. Vector space model(VSM) text representation produces the high dimensions and sparse features which increase the burden of ELM. To overcome this problem, we develop a text classification framework combining the word vector and AE1-WELM. The experimental results show that our method provides an accurate, reliable and effective solution for text classification. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.

We report the radio observations of the eclipsing black widow pulsar J1720-0534, a 3.26 ms pulsar in orbit with a low mass companion of mass 0.029 to 0.034 M⊙. We obtain the phase-connected timing ephemeris and polarization profile of this millisecond pulsar(MSP) using the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope(FAST), the Green Bank Telescope(GBT), and the Parkes Telescope. For the first time from such a system, an oscillatory polarization angle change was observed from a particular eclipse egress with partial depolarization, indicating 10-milliGauss-level reciprocating magnetic fields oscillating in a length scale of 5 ×10^(3)km(assuming an orbital inclination angle of 90°) outside the companion's magnetosphere. The dispersion measure variation observed during the ingresses and egresses shows the rapid raising of the electron density in the shock boundary between the companion's magnetosphere and the surrounding pulsar wind. We suggest that the observed oscillatory magnetic fields originate from the pulsar wind outside the companion's magnetosphere.

Incorporating daily rainfall to derive at-site hourly depth-duration-frequency relationships

Two models are herein presented to derive at-site hourly based rainfall depth-duration-frequency (ddF) relationships by incorporating daily rainfall information. The model development is motivated by the desire to utilize daily rainfall data that are in existence prior to the conversion from a manned gauge to an automatic one for improving the establishment of hourly based rainfall ddF relation at the site. The performance of the proposed models is assessed by comparing the rainfall ddF relationships derived from the conventional method using solely annual maximum rainfalls of various durations. Hourly rainfall data at Hong Kong Observatory over the period of 1884-1990 are used to demonstrate the application of the two proposed models and to examine their performance. results from the numerical experiments show that the two proposed models, which incorporate daily rainfall data, are capable of producing more accurate and reliable rainfall ddF relationships than the conventional method solely on the basis of annual maximum hourly rainfalls. © 2009 ASCE.
