Automation transformed various aspects of our human civilization, revolutionizing industries and streamlining processes. In the domain of scientific inquiry, automated approaches emerged as powerful tools, holding promise for accelerating discovery, enhancing reproducibility, and overcoming the traditional impediments to scientific progress. This article evaluates the scope of automation within scientific practice and assesses recent approaches. Furthermore, it discusses different perspectives to the following questions: Where do the greatest opportunities lie for automation in scientific practice?;What are the current bottlenecks of automating scientific practice?;and What are significant ethical and practical consequences of automating scientific practice? By discussing the motivations behind automated science, analyzing the hurdles encountered, and examining its implications, this article invites researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders to navigate the rapidly evolving frontier of automated scientific practice. © 2024, CC BY.

In this article, we use a monotonic optimization approach to propose an outcome-space outer approximation by copolyblocks for solving strictly quasiconvex multiobjective programming problems which include many classes of captivating problems, for example when the criterion functions are nonlinear fractional. After the algorithm is terminated, with any given tolerance, an approximation of the weakly efficient solution set is obtained containing the whole weakly efficient solution set of the problem. The algorithm is proved to be convergent and it is suitable to be implemented in parallel using convex programming tools. Some computational experiments are reported to show the accuracy and efficiency of the algorithm. © 2020 - IOS Press and the authors. All rights reserved.

Advanced robotic assembly systems are promising great benefits to the manufacturing sector, once the shortcomings of the current technologies are overcome. One of the biggest obstacles to introducing flexible robotic systems is the ability of robots to sense and perceive the semi-structured or unstructured environment. This paper presents a cyber-physical system based framework of a robotic assembly cell that is capable of recognizing resources of assembly processes, based on information from various visual sensors and updating and adapting the assembly plan in the digital twin of the robotic cell. Thus, calculates and executes feasible motion plans of the robots based on accurate digital information. The application of the framework is demonstrated in a physical assembly process.

In this work, we study quantum computing algorithms for accelerating causal inference. Specifically, we consider the formalism of causal hypothesis testing presented in [Nat Commun 10, 1472 (2019)]. We develop a quantum circuit implementation and use it to demonstrate that the error probability introduced in the previous work requires modification. The practical scenario, which follows a theoretical description, is constructed as a scalable quantum gate-based algorithm on IBM Qiskit. We present the circuit construction of the oracle embedding the causal hypothesis and assess the associated gate complexities. Additionally, our experiments on a simulator platform validate the predicted speedup. We discuss applications of this framework for causal inference use cases in bioinformatics and artificial general intelligence. © 2022, CC BY.

Health records data security is one of the main challenges in e-health systems. Authentication is one of the essential security services to support the stored data confidentiality, integrity, and availability. This research focuses on the secure storage of patient and medical records in the healthcare sector where data security and unauthorized access is an ongoing issue. A potential solution comes from biometrics, although their use may be time-consuming and can slow down data retrieval. This research aims to overcome these challenges and enhance data access control in the healthcare sector through the addition of biometrics in the form of fingerprints. The proposed model for application in the healthcare sector consists of Collection, Network communication, and Authentication (CNA) using biometrics, which replaces an existing password-based access control method. A sensor then collects data and by using a network (wireless or Zig-bee), a connection is established, after connectivity analytics and data management work which processes and aggregate the data. Subsequently, access is granted to authenticated users of the application. This IoT-based biometric authentication system facilitates effective recognition and ensures confidentiality, integrity, and reliability of patients’ records and other sensitive data. The proposed solution provides reliable access to healthcare data and enables secure access through the process of user and device authentication. Language-specific Characteristic Assistance for Code-switching Speech Recognition

Dual-encoder structure successfully utilizes two language-specific encoders (LSEs) for code-switching speech recognition. Because LSEs are initialized by two pre-trained language-specific models (LSMs), the dual-encoder structure can exploit sufficient monolingual data and capture the individual language attributes. However, most existing methods have no language constraints on LSEs and underutilize language-specific knowledge of LSMs. In this paper, we propose a language-specific characteristic assistance (LSCA) method to mitigate the above problems. Specifically, during training, we introduce two language-specific losses as language constraints and generate corresponding language-specific targets for them. During decoding, we take the decoding abilities of LSMs into account by combining the output probabilities of two LSMs and the mixture model to obtain the final predictions. Experiments show that either the training or decoding method of LSCA can improve the model's performance. Furthermore, the best result can obtain up to 15.4% relative error reduction on the code-switching test set by combining the training and decoding methods of LSCA. Moreover, the system can process code-switching speech recognition tasks well without extra shared parameters or even retraining based on two pre-trained LSMs by using our method. Even though enterprise architecture management (EAM) offers a wide range of methods and tools for aligning business with IT, an architect’s work is challenged by reality. The evolution of enterprise architecture (EA) and given constraints (e.g. legacy systems and processes) lead to debts which may complicate and hinder opportunities;however, the management of such debts has not been considered in EAM research. This paper presents a framework for strategically managing EA-debt-related issues and propose open questions as well as future research directions in this field. Cerebral micro-bleedings are small chronic brain hemorrhages caused by structural abnormalities of the small vessels. CMBs can be found from individuals with stroke at memory clinics and even healthy elderly people. CMBs indicate hemorrhage-prone pathological states. Research shows that CMBs are associated with an increased risk of future ischemic stroke, intra-cerebral hemorrhage (ICH), dementia, and death. Considering that CMBs severely influence people's life, it is necessary to identify the CMBs in an early stage to prevent from further deterioration and to help people live a healthy life. In this paper, we proposed using CNN with stochastic pooling for the CMB detection. CNN has good performance in image and video recognition, recommender system, and nature language processing. Based on the collected subject, the experiment result shows that the six-convolution layer and three fully-connected layer CNN, nine-layers in total, achieved sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and precision as 97.22%, and 97.35%, 97.28%, and 97.35% in average of ten runs, which shows better performance than five state-of-the-art methods. © 2019 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Molecular hydrogen and its isotopologues are key systems to test quantum electrodynamics (QED) at molecular length scales, as their energy levels can be calculated with high accuracy[1]. Comparison of the theoretical values with highly accurate experimental determinations of transition frequencies allows one to test QED and theories beyond the standard model of particle physics[2]. Recent accurate measurements of rovibrational frequencies of HD and D2, covering mostly the second overtone band, have shown a systematic deviation between measured and calculated transition frequencies. Yet, available measurements on H2 are characterized by uncertainties one order of magnitude larger than theory.
