In this paper, we investigate how the sensor network performs in the case when the event moves with special movement path. We compare the simulation results for four scenarios: when the event is stationary, moving randomly, moving with simple 4 path and boids path. The simulation results have shown that for the case when event is moving randomly the performance is the worst in the four scenarios. The characteristic of goodput decreases with the increase of number of sensor nodes. In the case of boids model, the gooput is unstable when the Tr is lower than 10 pps. The consumed energy characteristic increases with the increase of Tr. Simulation results show that the consumed energy of random movement is the worst among four scenarios. The consumed energy of boids model is the lowest in four cases. This shows that the event movement with boids model can decrease the consumed energy in the large scale WSNs.

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) are a sensing, computing and communication infrastructure that are able to observe and respond to phenomena in the natural environment and in our physical and cyber infrastructure. The sensors themselves can range from small passive micro sensors to larger scale, controllable weather-sensing platforms. In this work, we investigate how the sensor network performs in the case when the sink node moves using different radio models. We consider good put and depletion metrics to evaluate the performance of WSN. We compare the simulation results when the sink node is mobile and stationary considering lattice topology and AODV protocol. The simulation results have shown that in case of mobile sink, the good put of TworayGround radio model is better than Shadowing. However, the consumed energy of Shadowing model is better than TworayGround model.

In this work, we investigate how WSN performs in the case when sink node moves using different radio models and metrics. We consider routing efficiency, delay and number of received packet metrics to evaluate the performance of WSN using AODV routing protocol, lattice topology, and TworayGround and Shadowing radio models. We evaluate the performance of WSN by simulations. The performance evaluation results show that for small number of sensor nodes, the RE of Shadowing radio model is better than TworayGround model. However, for high node density, the RE of TworayGround model is better than Shadowing radio model. When Tr is less 10, the delay of Shadowing model is better than TworayGround model. However, for Tr larger than 100, the delay of TworayGround model is better than Shadowing model. With increase of the number of nodes, the number of received packets is also increased. For TworayGround model, when Tr is less than 10, the number of received packets for 16, 64, and 100 nodes is almost the same. However, comparing TworayGround model with Shadowing model, for the same time interval and for the same number of nodes, the number of received packets of TworayGround model is better than Shadowing model.

There are several technical or technological field, which borrowed inspirations or hints from nature. This way it could be interesting to study, how a multicellular organism develops, by consecutive cell divisions, differentiations and proliferation, from a single cell. This development could be regarded as a decompression process of a highly compressed database. Following and mimicking this procedure we might be able to create a similar database or image processing transformation and compression method. The aim of our research is, finding the method how certain information is stored in the genome, which relates to the physical location and type of each cell of the body. Finding any such relationship, could help us to develop new image transformation and compression method.

At-speed scan testing for intra-clock and inter-clock transition delay faults in a SOC design with multiple clock domains is an important and challenging issue. Current practice in industry usually applies a test scheme targeted on intra-clock transition fault delay testing (i.e., intra testing). In this paper a test scheme targeting both intra-clock and inter-clock domains for transition delay fault testing (i.e., intra-inter testing) is applied. This paper presents an empirical study by comparing between intra testing and intra-inter testing in terms of fault classification, test detection, test coverage, test volume, and test power by using industrial circuits. The information provided by this paper is beneficial to both practitioners and researchers in their pursuit of improving the quality of transition delay testing, which is critical to the quality of deep-sub micron VLSI chips.

In this paper we present a method for automatically generating optimal robot trajectories satisfying high level mission specifications. The motion of the robot in the environment is modeled as a weighted transition system. The mission is specified by a general linear temporal logic formula. In addition, we require that an optimizing proposition must be repeatedly satisfied. The cost function that we seek to minimize is the maximum time between satisfying instances of the optimizing proposition. For every environment model, and for every formula, our method computes a robot trajectory which minimizes the cost function. The problem is motivated by robotic monitoring and data gathering. In this setting, the optimizing proposition is satisfied at locations where data can be uploaded, and the formula specifies a an infinite horizon data collection mission. Our method utilizes Büchi automata to produce an automaton (which can be thought of as a graph) whose runs satisfy the temporal logic formula. We then present a graph algorithm which computes a path corresponding to the optimal robot trajectory. We also present an implementation for a robot performing a data gathering mission.

Mobile learning is considered the next step of online learning by incorporating mobility as a key requirement. Indeed, the current wide spread of mobile devices and wireless technologies brings an enormous potential to e-learning, in terms of ubiquity, pervasiveness, personalization, flexibility, and so on. For this reason, Mobile Learning is attracting significant research efforts covering a fairly variety of learning settings, from schools and universities to workplaces and cities. This research has evidenced that mobile technology can offer new opportunities for learners to learn inside and beyond the traditional instructor-oriented educational paradigm. However, mobile technologies are still in its infancy and many challenges arise. In this paper we analyze, from both learning and technological perspectives, the development of learning applications using mobile devices. To this end, proxy and proxy less architectures are considered as way to extend traditional virtual campuses with mobile clients. The objective is twofold: to access learning materials and to support learning activities. A prototype of a Virtual Campus is developed using MLE-Moodle -the Mobile Learning module of Moodle. The proposed Virtual Campus enables mobile clients to perform online learning activities and is a step towards achieving the “anytime, anywhere” paradigm.

The main contribution of this paper is a new sliding mode design for nonlinear systems. This method is based on Tensor Product Model Transformation. It is partially extension and combination of the classical optimal manifold design for linear (or linearized) system and sector sliding mode control. This new approach enables a systematic design and decomposition of optimal sliding sector by the High Order Singular Value Decomposition (HOSVD)-based canonical description of a wide class of nonlinear systems. Two design examples and experimental results of a DSP-controlled single-degree-of-freedom motion-control system are presented.

Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) are a key part of the current hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) drive system, and the sophisticated performance such as small size, high power density, and high efficiency is required to the PMSMs in the HEV drive system. Therefore, rare earth permanent magnet is generally employed in the PMSMs in order to satisfy those demands. However, rare earth materials contained in the rare earth permanent magnet have several concerns caused by uneven distribution, because the rare earth materials such as neodymium and dysprosium depend on China for 90% or more of the world share. Accordingly, the rare earth materials have the undeniable possibility of sudden rise of price or reinforcement of export restriction. On the other hand, the HEVs tend to be promoted rapidly because of growing concern about environmental problems. Therefore, it is very important to develop rare-earth-free motors for the next generation HEV drive system. This paper proposes a ferrite permanent magnet axial gap motor without the rare earth materials for the HEVs. In addition, the proposed motor structure and the analytical results with the 3D-FEA are introduced.

The paper presents the main ideas of two Leonardo da Vinci (LdV) projects focused on the vocational training. The selected outputs of these projects are presented in more details. The conception of the multilingual terminological dictionary and proposed graphical user interface is also presented in the paper. An example of practical exercises in the area of NGN protocols based on remote access to NGN Lab is described and illustrated.
