From System-on-chip to Network-on-chip, the main dissimilarity is replacing the bus with the network. How connect, how formative network function is related to topology structure. In this paper we propose a topology structure for NoC, and compare it with mesh, torus, the fat tree, octagon, spidergon topology networks by five kinds of mainly properties: node degree, network diameter, connectivity, the average most short-circuit path and the average shortest wire length. Experiment results show that this topology has better performance on cost/performance layout.

The mobile cellular systems are expected to support multiple services with guaranteed quality of service (QoS). However, the ability of wireless systems to accommodate expected growth of traffic load and broadband services is limited by available radio frequency spectrum. Call admission control (CAC) is one of the resource management functions, which regulates network access to ensure QoS provisioning. However, the decision for CAC is very challenging issue due to user mobility, limited radio spectrum, and multimedia traffic characteristics. To deal with these problems, in this paper, we propose a fuzzy CAC system. We compare the performance of the proposed system with shadow cluster concept (SCC). We evaluate by simulation the performance of the proposed system. The proposed system has a good behavior on deciding the number of accepted connections while keeping the QoS for serving connections.

This paper addresses the problem of frame interpolation for Wyner-Ziv video coding. A novel frame interpolation method based on block-adaptive matching algorithm for motion estimation is presented. This scheme enables block size adaptation to local activity within frames using block merging and splitting techniques. The efficiency of the proposed method is evaluated in transform domain Wyner-Ziv video coding. The experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method over existing frame interpolation techniques.

This paper considers the control of discrete linear repetitive processes, which are a distinct class of two-dimensional (2-D) discrete linear systems, i.e. information propagation in two independent directions, which are of both system-theoretic and applications interest. In this paper we report new results on the design of control laws with guaranteed levels of performance. In particular, develop algorithms for the design of an H infin and lscr 2 - lscr infin dynamic output feedback controller which guarantees that the resulting controlled process is stable and has prescribed disturbance attenuation performance as measured by H infin and lscr 2 - lscr infin norms.

With the human genome sequenced, attention has been shifting to proteins and their function. Several technologies including mass spectrometry and gel electrophoresis have traditionally been used to study proteins. These technologies rely on proteins' masses to characterize and/or identify them. Once identified, the discovered proteins' are often analyzed for their functional relevance. In this paper, we present an alternative approach to studying protein function directly, based on protein mass. By analyzing proteins with similar mass ranges (bins), we discovered that certain biological functions are associated with specific mass bins more frequently than would be expected by chance. Biological functional classes found in this manner could be seen across the three examined organisms: human, worm and fly. We found no sequence-based homology across significant mass-function proteins in the three different organisms. This investigation leads to useful property that the mass-based biological functional classes are preserved across the organisms. Thus, this paper describes a potential constraint for evolution of similar function based on mass constraints. Finally, this work yields a roadmap for experimental design for functional exploration of proteomes in mass-based technologies such as gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry.

Fuzzy communication contains vague or imprecise components and it might lack of abundant information. If two entities (man or machine) are communicating by a fuzzy channel, it is necessary that both ends possess the same codebook. The codebook might partly consist of common knowledge but it usually requires a context dependent part that is either learned by the communicating entity or defined by expert knowledge. Possibly it is continuously adapting to the input information. If such a codebook is not available or it contains too imprecise information, the information to be transmitted might be too much distorted and might lead to misunderstanding, misinterpretation and serious damage. If however the quality of the available codebook is satisfactory, the communication will be efficient i. e., the original contents of the message can be reconstructed. At the same time it is cost effective, as fuzzy communication is compressed as compared to traditional "abundant communication".

In this article, we consider the problem of calculating an appropriate number of near-optimal (subject to a certain routing objective) routes for mobile agents (MAs) that incrementally fuse the data as they visit the nodes in a distributed sensor network. We propose an improved heuristic algorithm which computes an approximate solution to the problem by suggesting an appropriate number of MAs and constructing near-optimal itineraries for each of them. The performance gain of our algorithm over alternative approaches both in terms of cost and task completion latency is demonstrated by a quantitative evaluation and also in simulated environments through a Java-based tool.

This paper presents a novel field robot JL-I based on a reconfigurable concept for urban search and rescue applications. The robot consists of three identical modules; each module is an entire robotic system that can perform distributed activities. It features three-degrees-of-freedom (DOF) active joints actuated by serial and parallel mechanisms for changing shape and flexible docking mechanism. The docking mechanism enables adjacent modules to connect or disconnect flexibly and automatically. DOF analysis, working space analysis and the kinematics of the 3D active joint between connected modules are studied thoroughly. In the end a series of successful tests confirm the principles and the robot's capabilities.

This paper presents a novel modular climbing caterpillar named ZC-I. After a related survey on the topic, a systematical summarizing on basic functions provided by this system is given. ZC-I features fast-building mechanical structure and low-frequency vibrating passive attachment principle. Active joints actuated by RC servos endow the connecting modules with the ability of changing shapes in two dimensions. After that the discussion focuses on the various locomotion capabilities. Linear movement, turning movement, lateral movement, rotating and rolling movement are achieved based on an inspired control model to produce rhythmic motion. In the end a conclusion and future work are given.

In this paper we present a study on the requirements for the design and implementation of simulation packages for Grid systems. Grids are emerging as new distributed computing systems whose main objective is to manage and allocate geographically distributed computing resources to applications and users in an efficient and transparent manner. Grid systems are at present very difficult and complex to use for experimental studies of large-scale distributed applications. Although the field of simulation of distributed computing systems is mature, recent developments in large-scale distributed systems are raising needs not present in the simulation of the traditional distributed systems. Motivated by this, we present in this work a set of basic requirements that any simulation package for Grid computing should offer. This set of functionalities is obtained after a careful review of most important existing Grid simulation packages and includes new requirements not considered in such simulation packages. Based on the identified set of requirements, a Grid simulator is developed and exemplified for the Grid scheduling problem.
