Predicting the value of railroad track geometry is needed to reduce the cost and time of rail condition measurements that have been carried out periodically every three months by railroad operators in Indonesia (PT Kereta Api Indonesia/PT KAI). Four track geometry parameters - vertical profile, horizontal alignment, twist, and gauge - are the reference measurements that will be mapped with alternative measurement results using accelerometers installed on regular trains (in-service trains). In this paper, eight prediction algorithms from the machine learning model are applied to map the vertical profile with 73 kilometers of measurement data in the Jakarta to Padalarang railroad segment, precisely on the Jatinegara-Cikampek measuring trip conducted from April 2019 to June 2022. The evaluation performance of the prediction results has been measured with the GadientBoosting Regressor algorithm is the best algorithm with MSE = 0.791, R^2 = 0.507 and feature importance on the Train speed and Az attributes. The research can be continued to detect the correlation of three other track geometry parameters referring to the dataset of rail geometry condition measurement results through accelerometers on regular trains (in-service trains).

The concept of the internet in the future will prioritize content, by reducing delays in data transmission. Named Data Networking (NDN) is a content-based future internet concept that changes the paradigm of using IP. Inside the NDN router, there are three data structures, namely Content Store (CS), Pending Interest Table (PIT), and Forwarding Information Base (FIB). Pending Interest Table (PIT) contains a list of unfulfilled interests. This condition occurs when the node has not received a response after the interest forwarding process. Measurable and fast PIT performance is a challenge in Named Data Networks. In this study, we will try to do a simulation to measure and analyze the performance of PIT in NDN in the Palapa Ring topology. The research was conducted using the NDNSim simulator, to see the performance in the PIT. The simulation and analysis of the results show that the granularity of a prefix has an effect on In Satisfied Interest in an NDN network. At the number of interests of 100, the result obtained from the simulation is that there is a decrease in the percentage of interest data served, amounting to more than 20%. At the amount of interest in 1000 about more than 30%. The length of the prefix and the number of interest sent by the consumer affect the performance of the PIT, seen from the number of In Satisfied Interests. © 2022 IEEE.

Broadcasting is one of the fundamental information dissemination primitives in interconnection networks, where a message is passed from one node (called originator) to all other nodes in the network. Following the increasing interest in interconnection networks, extensive research was dedicated to broadcasting. Two main research goals of this area are finding inexpensive network structures that maintain efficient broadcasting and finding the broadcast time for well-known and widely used network topologies. In the scope of this study, we will mainly focus on determining the broadcast time and nearoptimal broadcasting schemes in networks. Determination of the broadcast time of any node in an arbitrary network is known to be NP-hard. Polynomial time solutions are known only for a few network topologies. There also exist various heuristic and approximation algorithms for different network topologies. In this study, we consider the broadcast time problem on graphs that comprise some recursive structures. We initiate a novel direction to designing broadcasting algorithms on recursively defined graphs. We provide a theoretical foundation for future broadcasting studies, as well as discuss several practical applications of the approach we introduce. © 2025 IEEE.

This paper investigates the advancement of magnetic induction-based heart and respiration rate sensing by actively controlling the coil current. This is realized through the implementation of a current-starved inverter mechanism. Experiments show a notable level of accuracy of the proposed circuit in measuring heart and respiration activity when compared to a reference sensor. The direct manipulation of current levels was found to have a direct impact on the signal strength. Incrementing the overall current within the proposed circuit from 60 mA to 100 mA resulted in an augmentation of the output amplitude of the heart rate signal from 8.5 mV to 27 mV, accompanied by a marginal enhancement in beat-to-beat interval accuracy. Moreover, the proposed sensor demonstrates noteworthy precision in monitoring the respiratory rate when compared with the reference sensor under different current values, exhibiting the same trend in signal strength. This finding offers valuable insight for the development of future power-optimized magnetic induction sensors with enhanced robustness.

Leveraging Highly Approximated Multipliers in DNN Inference

In this work, we present a control variate approximation technique that enables the exploitation of highly approximate multipliers in Deep Neural Network (DNN) accelerators. Our approach does not require retraining and significantly decreases the induced error due to approximate multiplications, improving the overall inference accuracy. As a result, our approach enables satisfying tight accuracy loss constraints while boosting the power savings. Our experimental evaluation, across six different DNNs and several approximate multipliers, demonstrates the versatility of our approach and shows that compared to the accurate design, our control variate approximation achieves the same performance, 45% power reduction, and less than 1% average accuracy loss. Compared to the corresponding approximate designs without using our technique, our approach improves the accuracy by 1.9x on average. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Chest radiography is a commonly utilized imaging technique for acquiring Chest X-ray (CXR) images due to its cost-effectiveness and its role in diagnosing lung-related disorders. Nevertheless, interpreting CXR images can be challenging, and the process of separating the lung field from CXR images can be a valuable tool for assessing and diagnosing lung diseases. While various segmentation methods exist, this study primarily focuses on META’s latest Segment Anything Model (SAM). SAM is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) model designed to segment objects within an image. This research aims to harness SAM’s capabilities for segmenting CXR images. Additionally, we explore the potential of another novel model called Grounding DINO. Grounding DINO is a zero-shot object detection model that utilizes a Swin (Shifted Windows) transformer for extracting image features and BERT (Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers) for extracting textual information. It is primarily employed to detect objects in an image based on a provided text prompt, creating bounding boxes around the objects when certain text and box thresholds are met. These bounding boxes are then used as prompts for SAM to generate segmentation masks. The proposed framework has been assessed on CXRs obtained from patients at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, USA and further evaluated using NIH clinical center’s CXR image dataset. © 2024, The Authors. Spacecraft pose estimation is an essential contribution to facilitating central space mission activities like autonomous navigation, rendezvous, docking, and on-orbit servicing. Nonetheless, methods like Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM), and Particle Filtering suffer significant drawbacks when implemented in space. Such techniques tend to have high computational complexity, low domain generalization capacity for varied or unknown conditions (domain generalization problem), and accuracy loss with noise from the space environment causes such as fluctuating lighting, sensor limitations, and background interference. In order to overcome these challenges, this study suggests a new solution through the combination of a Dual-Channel Transformer Network with Bayesian Optimization methods. The innovation is at the center with the utilization of EfficientNet, augmented with squeeze-and-excitation attention modules, to extract feature-rich representations without sacrificing computational efficiency. The dual-channel architecture dissects satellite pose estimation into two dedicated streams—translational data prediction and orientation estimation via quaternion-based activation functions for rotational precision. Activation maps are transformed into transformer-compatible sequences via 1×1 convolutions, allowing successful learning in the transformer's encoder-decoder system. To maximize model performance, Bayesian Optimization with Gaussian Process Regression and the Upper Confidence Bound (UCB) acquisition function makes the optimal hyperparameter selection with fewer queries, conserving time and resources. This entire framework, used here in Python and verified with the SLAB Satellite Pose Estimation Challenge dataset, had an outstanding Mean IOU of 0.9610, reflecting higher accuracy compared to standard models. This research proposes a chaos-enhanced bat algorithm to address global optimization problems. The Bat Algorithm (BA) is a popular swarm intelligence algorithms known for its effectiveness in solving optimization problems in both academic and real life scenarios. However, the classical approach is often susceptible to getting trapped in local optima. The current study presents an improved version of the Bat algorithm to overcome these limitations. We have enhanced the Bat Algorithm to boost its local search capabilities mitigate the issue of premature convergence. An improved search equation, incorporating additional valuable information, is introduced to generate better solutions. Additionally, a random walk Levy Flight mechanism is integrated into the Bat Algorithm to prevent it from being trapped in local optima. The proposed Bat Algorithm is applied to 10 benchmark functions within metaheuristic algorithms. While these algorithms have not been thoroughly investigated or manipulated in the past they prove useful in exploring the search space for optimal solutions. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperforms established methods, including both original and enhanced approaches. Copyright © 2025 KSII.

Perspiration is a physiological response in high-stress situations, that also plays a key role in thermoregulation and stress management. Understanding perspiration patterns is used for assessing physiological responses and optimizing human performance especially in professions such as emergency medical services and military operations, as well as for individuals exposed to Isolated Confined Extreme (ICE) environments such as astronauts and space analog mission participants. This paper defines a Digital Twin (DT) model, that will be integrated with an existing physical sweat simulator module (SSM) prototype. Its goal is to simulate human perspiration under high-stress conditions by integrating environmental, physiological, and psychological data. The system architecture is developed via Model-Based Systems engineering (MBSE). The scope of the designed virtual model is to accurately reflect physical perspiration, detect abnormal perspiration patterns, and generate recommendations regarding stress countermeasures. The goal is to influence the behavioral and/or physiological state of the physical twin, thereby creating a dynamic, responsive system. Machine learning (ML) models will be used to identify patterns in the environmental, physiological, and psychological inputs and predict sweat volume, chemical composition, and regional sweat distributions across the body. ML will also be used to detect abnormal perspiration patterns based on input data. The application of generative AI for creating test data from simulation templates is anticipated to facilitate the comparative analysis of two to three distinct profiles, such as astronauts, soldiers, and paramedics or firefighters, using simulated values. The SSM, with its integrated sensors, will serve the dual purpose of validating the model and providing realistic physical simulation. © 2024 IEEE.
