The fundamental problem of selecting the order and identifying the time varying parameters of an autoregressive moving average model (ARMA), is one that impacts on many important fields of interest such linear prediction, system identification and spectral analysis. Naturally, it has a long and continuing history and we present an algorithm applicable to on-line/adaptive operation. The method is based on the reformulation of the problem in the standard state space form of the subsequent implementation of a bank of Kalman filters, each fitting a different order model. The problem is reduced then to selecting the true model, using the well known multi-model partitioning theory, for general (not necessarily Gaussian) data PDFs. Furthermore, the method is adaptive, in the sense that it has the ability of tracking successfully changes in the model structure, in real time.

The World Wide Web (WWW) provides a common framework for information exchange between different people. Everyone "publishes" texts, images, animation and video over the WWW, since it provides a cost-efficient way to disseminate knowledge and technology transfer. All this digital multimedia data can be duplicated without any loss of quality. The copy is identical to the master and the process of copying does not affect the quality of the master itself. With the increasing popularity of the Internet, especially with the hypertext based WWW, the possibility for everyone to access multimedia data has increased. Authors (that is developers or producers of digital data) should have a way to protect the intellectual property rights of their products. Image processing techniques have been presented in order to mark or "stamp" a digital product with the authors signatures. It is well known that for the linear filtering problem with unknown time-invariant or time-varying parameters i.e. the adaptive filtering problem, the multimodel adaptive filter (MMAF) based on the Lainiotis (1973) partitioning theorem is the best solution. It is also known that genetic algorithms (GA) are one of the best methods for searching and optimisation. A new method which combines the effectiveness of MMAF and GAs robustness has been developed. The experiments' results, obtaining from the performance of this new method to a specific linear model with one unknown time-invariant parameter, indicate that the proposed method provides better estimation of the unknown parameter compared to that of a single MMAF.

Proposes a powerful model, called MITOS (Model for Intelligent Three-dimensional Object Support) for the intelligent support of spatial data consisting of irregular 3D objects and their interrelations. The core novelty of the proposed data model lies in its delicate way of representing the (complicated) world of 3D objects in order to reduce its complexity. MITOS achieves this by discretizing the space, using mostly topological notions and finite sets, and by recalling geometry only when needed. On the other hand, MITOS's objects are effectively handled by the MITOS language, which is an integration of an object-oriented programming language and a logic-based one.

This paper presents a novel method for designing TSC m-out-of-n code checkers taking into account a realistic fault model including stuck-at, transistor stuck-on, transistor stuck-open, resistive bridging faults and breaks. The proposed design method is the first method in the open literature that takes into account a realistic fault model and can be applied for all practical values of m and n. Apart from the above the proposed checkers are very compact and very fast. Another benefit of the proposed TSC checkers is that all faults are tested by single pattern tests thus the probability of achieving the TSC goal is greater than in checkers requiring two-pattern tests.

More specifically, the solution of the well known "don't care" filter design method is proposed as a new efficient initialization scheme for the Remez algorithm. Our proposal is motivated by the fact that the "don't care" least squares optimum solution satisfies one of the two basic conditions that are sufficient for obtaining the L/sub /spl infin// optimal solution according to the alternation theorem and at the same time it adequately approximates the second one. Because of these properties we have a significant speed up of the convergence of the Remez exchange algorithm to the L/sub /spl infin// optimum solution.

Investigates a novel approach to image structure segmentation based on detecting the critical image edges by formulating the problem as a classification task. The main goal of such a research effort is to better identify abrupt image changes without increasing the presence of noise in the resulting image. The suggested methodology is based on the discrete 2D wavelet transform applied to the original image in an attempt to extract more informative features for facilitating the decision-making process subsequently involved. This process is considered as a classification procedure employing supervised training techniques and, more specifically, multivariate stepwise discriminant analysis. The feasibility of this novel proposed approach is preliminarily studied by applying it to the image structure segmentation problem of a brain slice MRI image.
