The cyber–physical convergence is opening up new business opportunities for industrial operators. The need for deep integration of the cyber and the physical worlds establishes a rich business agenda towards consolidating new system and network engineering approaches. This revolution would not be possible without the rich and heterogeneous sources of data, as well as the ability of their intelligent exploitation, mainly due to the fact that data will serve as a fundamental resource to promote Industry 4.0. One of the most fruitful research and practice areas emerging from this data-rich, cyber-physical, smart factory environment is the data-driven process monitoring field, which applies machine learning methodologies to enable predictive maintenance applications. In this paper, we examine popular time series forecasting techniques as well as supervised machine learning algorithms in the applied context of Industry 4.0, by transforming and preprocessing the historical industrial dataset of a packing machine’s operational state recordings (real data coming from the production line of a manufacturing plant from the food and beverage domain). In our methodology, we use only a single signal concerning the machine’s operational status to make our predictions, without considering other operational variables or fault and warning signals, hence its characterization as "agnostic". In this respect, the results demonstrate that the adopted methods achieve a quite promising performance on three targeted use cases. © 2022, CC BY-NC-ND.

Variational Weighted p−q Regularization for Hyperspectral Image Restoration Under Mixed Noise

In this paper, we propose to use weighted (Formula presented.) -norm for approximating the solution of general (Formula presented.) -norm regularization problem for recovering hyperspectral images (HSI) corrupted by a mixture of Gaussian-impulse noise. As a special case of (Formula presented.), we design an optimization framework to accommodate the combined effect of different noise sources. An initial impulse noise pre-detection phase decouples the raw noisy HSI data into impulse and Gaussian corrupted pixels. Gaussian corrupted pixels are handled by data-fidelity term in (Formula presented.) while impulse corrupted pixels possess more Laplacian like behavior;modeled using (Formula presented.). Solutions of problems involving (Formula presented.) in data fidelity and regularization terms complicate the optimization process but are less sensitive to the outlier pixels. On the other hand, the least square solutions for the data misfit are computationally efficient but generates solutions which are quite sensitive to the outlier pixels;which is the characteristic of impulse corrupted pixels. Therefore, in this paper, we decouple the set of pixels into two distinct parts;handled using two separate data fidelity terms. Total variation (TV) is used on the Casorati matrix representation of the input data to exploit similarity along both spatial and spectral dimensions. The resulting optimization problem is reformulated as iteratively reweighted least square for the general (Formula presented.) -norm problem for (Formula presented.) for data fidelity terms and (Formula presented.) for the TV regularization term. Experiments conducted over synthetically corrupted HSI data and images obtained from real HSI sensors confirm the suitability of the proposed weighted norm optimization framework (WNOF) over a wide range of degradation scenarios. © 2025 The Author(s). Objective: We introduce ECG-Image-Database, a large and diverse collection of electrocardiogram (ECG) images generated from ECG time-series data that exhibit real-world scanning, imaging, and physical artifacts. This dataset addresses the need for digitizing paper-based and non-digital ECGs for computerized analysis, providing a foundation for developing robust machine and deep learning models capable of ECG image digitization. Approach: We used ECG-Image-Kit, an open-source Python toolkit, to generate realistic images of 12-lead ECG printouts from raw ECG time-series data. We include images with realistic distortions, including noise, wrinkles, stains, and perspective shifts generated both digitally and physically. The toolkit was applied to 977 12-lead ECG records from the PTB-XL database and 1,000 from Emory Healthcare to create high-fidelity synthetic ECG images. These 1,977 unique images were subjected to both programmatic distortions using ECG-Image-Kit and to physical effects, such as soaking, staining, and mold growth, followed by scanning and photography under various lighting conditions to create real-world artifacts, producing a total of 35,595 images. Main results: The resulting dataset includes 35,595 software-labeled ECG images (generated from 1,977 unique records) from different sources (in Germany and the USA) with a wide range of imaging artifacts and distortions. The dataset provides ground truth time-series data alongside the corresponding images, offering a reference for training and evaluating machine and deep learning models for ECG digitization and classification. The images vary in quality, ranging from clear scans of clean papers to noisy photographs of degraded papers, enabling the development of more generalizable and robust digitization algorithms. The formal study of computer malware was initiated in the seminal work of Fred Cohen in the mid-80s who applied elements of Computation Theory in the investigation of the theoretical limits of using the Turing Machine formal model of computation in detecting viruses. Cohen gave a simple but realistic, formal, definition of the characteristic actions of a computer virus as a Turing Machine that replicates itself and proved that detecting this behaviour, in general. is an undecidable problem. In this paper, we complement Cohen's approach by providing a simple generalization of his definition of a computer virus so as to model any type of malware behaviour and showing that the malware/nonmalware classification problem is, again, undecidable. Most importantly, beyond Cohen's work, our work provides a generic theoretical framework for studying anti-malware applications and identifying, at an early stage, before their deployment, several of their inherent vulnerabilities which may lead to the construction of zero-day exploits and malware strains with stealth properties. To this end, we show that for any given formal system, which can be seen as an anti-malware formal model, there are infinitely many, effectively constructible, programs for which no proof can be produced by the formal system that they are either malware or non-malware programs. Moreover, infinitely many of these programs are, indeed, malware programs which evade the detection powers of the given formal system. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Microsatellite instability (MSI) is a pivotal genetic marker influencing the efficacy of immunotherapy in colorectal cancer. Traditional MSI examination often requires additional genetic or immunohistochemical tests, whereas histology images, widely available in colorectal cancer diagnosis, offer a valuable alternative for MSI prediction. Although Transformer-based models have demonstrated promising outcomes in predicting MSI from histology images, they are hampered by traditional local attention mechanisms that struggle to capture long-range interdependencies and establish a comprehensive global receptive field. In this study, we introduce DiNAT-MSI, a novel framework for histology-based MSI prediction that incorporates the Dilated Neighborhood Attention Transformer (DiNAT). This model enhances global context recognition and substantially expands receptive fields, all without additional computational burden. Our results demonstrate that DiNAT-MSI achieves a superior patientwise AUROC compared to ResNet18 and Swin Transformer, along with commendable explainability. Our work not only illustrates a more accessible diagnostic tool for leveraging histological data but also underscores the potential of Transformerbased models with sophisticated attention designs in advancing precision medicine for colorectal cancer patients. © 2024 IEEE.

Human-computer Interaction (HCI) and Machine Learning (ML) technologies have potential for the behavioral screening of autistic children but how to design a tool and analyse behavior reliably is challenging. Based on psychophysiological computation, this paper proposes an interactive behavior perception analytical model for autism screening. We presented the multi-scenario reactive behavior paradigms that designed based on the atypical characteristics of autistic children. We recorded the eye movement data and facial data of 91 participants, and performed multi-modal feature extraction, used machine learning to train classification model. We conducted comparative experiments, and the experimental results verified the advantages of multi-scenario paradigms and multi-modal feature groups, which indicates that our analysis methods and screening models are effective and reliable and have real research significance. © 2023 IEEE.

In recent years,there are numerous studies on chaotic systems with special equilibrium curves having various shapes such as circle,butterfly,heart and *** paper describes a new 3-D chaotic dynamical system with a capsule-shaped equilibrium *** proposed chaotic system has two quadratic,two cubic and two quartic nonlinear *** is noted that the proposed chaotic system has a hidden attractor since it has an infinite number of equilibrium *** is also established that the proposed chaotic system exhibits multi-stability with two coexisting chaotic attractors for the same parameter values but differential initial states.A detailed bifurcation analysis with respect to variations in the system parameters is portrayed for the new chaotic system with capsule equilibrium *** have shown MATLAB plots to illustrate the capsule equilibrium curve,phase orbits of the new chaotic system,bifurcation diagrams and *** an engineering application,we have proposed a speech cryptosystem with a numerical algorithm,which is based on our novel 3-D chaotic system with a capsule-shaped equilibrium *** proposed speech cryptosystem follows its security evolution and implementation on Field Programmable Gate Array(FPGA)*** results show that the proposed encryption system utilizes 33%of the FPGA,while the maximum clock frequency is 178.28 MHz.

Security and privacy are crucial in V2X networks due to sensitive user information. Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) is widely used in C-ITS to ensure security and privacy. However, the practical implementation of PKI faces challenges in achieving seamless communication across diverse ITS projects worldwide. The absence of interoperability between PKI systems and unre-solved issues in existing PKI standards hinder global adoption. Despite available security standardizations using centralized PKI technology for V2X, a universally adopted PKI-based security architecture is necessary. Furthermore, the progress made in 5G V2X technology has demonstrated significant potential for revolutionizing V2X communication in the future. Enhancing the level of trust through integration of the 5G Core Network (5GC) into the PKI security mechanism can lead to more secure and efficient V2X communication. To address these challenges, we propose a blockchain-based architecture that integrates the 5GC network with the PKI infrastructure, aiming to enhance privacy and security in 5G V2X communication. Our solution is designed to be distributed and interoperable, aligned with existing ETSI ITS PKI standard. By utilizing Hyperledger Fabric (HLF) platform, a permissioned blockchain framework, we present the architecture and conduct a comprehensive security analysis to ensure compliance with security and privacy requirements of V2X communications.

Machine learning based image analysis for predicting and diagnosing certain diseases has been entirely trustworthy and even as efficient as a domain expert’s ***,the style of non-transparency functioning by a trained machine learning system poses a more significant impediment for seamless knowledge trajectory,clinical mapping,and delusion *** this proposed study,a deep learning based framework that employs deep convolution neural network(Deep-CNN),by utilizing both clinical presentations and conventional magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)investigations,for diagnosing tumors is *** research aims to develop a model that can be used for abnormality detection over MRI data quite efficiently with high *** research is based on deep learning and Deep-CNN was deployed to examine the MR brain image for tracing the *** system runs on Tensor flow and uses a feature extraction module in DeepCNN to elicit the factors of that part of the image from where underlying issues are identified and subsequently succeeded in prediction of the disease in the MR *** results of this study showed that our model did not have any adverse effect on classification,achieved higher accuracy than the peers in recent years,and attained good detection outcomes including case of *** the future work,further improvement can be made by designing models that can drastically reduce the parameter space without affecting classification accuracy.

Due to domain shift, a large performance drop is usually observed when a trained crowd counting model is deployed in the wild. While existing domain-adaptive crowd counting methods achieve promising results, they typically regard each crowd image as a whole and reduce domain discrepancies in a holistic manner, thus limiting further improvement of domain adaptation performance. To this end, we propose to untangle domain-invariant crowd and domain-specific background from crowd images and design a fine-grained domain adaption method for crowd counting. Specifically, to disentangle crowd from background, we propose to learn crowd segmentation from point-level crowd counting annotations in a weakly-supervised manner. Based on the derived segmentation, we design a crowd-aware domain adaptation mechanism consisting of two crowd-aware adaptation modules, i.e., Crowd Region Transfer (CRT) and Crowd Density Alignment (CDA). The CRT module is designed to guide crowd features transfer across domains beyond background distractions. The CDA module dedicates to regularising target-domain crowd density generation by its own crowd density distribution. Our method outperforms previous approaches consistently in the widely-used adaptation scenarios.
