Perspiration is a physiological response in high-stress situations, that also plays a key role in thermoregulation and stress management. Understanding perspiration patterns is used for assessing physiological responses and optimizing human performance especially in professions such as emergency medical services and military operations, as well as for individuals exposed to Isolated Confined Extreme (ICE) environments such as astronauts and space analog mission participants. This paper defines a Digital Twin (DT) model, that will be integrated with an existing physical sweat simulator module (SSM) prototype. Its goal is to simulate human perspiration under high-stress conditions by integrating environmental, physiological, and psychological data. The system architecture is developed via Model-Based Systems engineering (MBSE). The scope of the designed virtual model is to accurately reflect physical perspiration, detect abnormal perspiration patterns, and generate recommendations regarding stress countermeasures. The goal is to influence the behavioral and/or physiological state of the physical twin, thereby creating a dynamic, responsive system. Machine learning (ML) models will be used to identify patterns in the environmental, physiological, and psychological inputs and predict sweat volume, chemical composition, and regional sweat distributions across the body. ML will also be used to detect abnormal perspiration patterns based on input data. The application of generative AI for creating test data from simulation templates is anticipated to facilitate the comparative analysis of two to three distinct profiles, such as astronauts, soldiers, and paramedics or firefighters, using simulated values. The SSM, with its integrated sensors, will serve the dual purpose of validating the model and providing realistic physical simulation.

Compositional construction of abstractions for infinite networks of discrete-time switched systems

In this paper, we develop a compositional scheme for the construction of continuous approximations for interconnections of infinitely many discrete-time switched systems. An approximation (also known as abstraction) is itself a continuous-space system, which can be used as a replacement of the original (also known as concrete) system in a controller design process. Having designed a controller for the abstract system, it is refined to a more detailed one for the concrete system. We use the notion of so-called simulation functions to quantify the mismatch between the original system and its approximation. In particular, each subsystem in the concrete network and its corresponding one in the abstract network are related through a notion of local simulation functions. We show that if the local simulation functions satisfy certain small-gain type conditions developed for a network containing infinitely many subsystems, then the aggregation of the individual simulation functions provides an overall simulation function quantifying the error between the overall abstraction network and the concrete one. In addition, we show that our methodology results in a scale-free compositional approach for any finite-but-arbitrarily large networks obtained from truncation of an infinite network. We provide a systematic approach to construct local abstractions and simulation functions for networks of linear switched systems. The required conditions are expressed in terms of linear matrix inequalities that can be efficiently computed. Large-scale pretrained language models are the major driving force behind recent improvements in performance on the Winograd Schema Challenge, a widely employed test of commonsense reasoning ability. We show, however, with a new diagnostic dataset, that these models are sensitive to linguistic perturbations of the Winograd examples that minimally affect human understanding. Our results highlight interesting differences between humans and language models: language models are more sensitive to number or gender alternations and synonym replacements than humans, and humans are more stable and consistent in their predictions, maintain a much higher absolute performance, and perform better on non-associative instances than associative ones. Overall, humans are correct more often than out-of-the-box models, and the models are sometimes right for the wrong reasons. Finally, we show that fine-tuning on a large, task-specific dataset can offer a solution to these issues. © 2020 Association for Computational Linguistics

This paper proposes a novel terahertz (THz) image recovery algorithm and a new THz image dataset is publicly available. Because of transmission noise, artificial errors and problems with diffraction phenomena are among the main problems that cause degradation of THz images. The point spread function (PSF) in real transmission is first obtained using a terahertz imaging system. Experiments can generate degraded images and clean image datasets for supervised training of neural networks via terahertz PSF. A Depthwise Dense Instantiation Normalization Block (DwDIN Block) has been proposed to recover the datasets. We constructed a powerful multi-stage network (DwDINet) at each scale by utilizing the DwDIN module. For input and output, the results of each stage of the network and the original images are taken as input into the next layer in order to enhance the background information. DwDINet achieves state-of-the-art (SOTA) results on the two main THz datasets. To verify the generality of the model, we performed experiments on various image recovery tasks. According to the experimental results, the proposed model is of great potential for the field of low-level image clarification. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Chaotic systems are highly sensitive to initial conditions, meaning small changes can lead to significant outcomes. This sensitivity can be leveraged to enhance the flexibility and adaptability of supply chains, allowing them to respond quickly to changing market demands and conditions. In this research work, we obtain a New Chaotic Supply Chain Model (NCSCM) by introducing a sinusoidal model uncertainty in the third differential equation of the Hamidzadeh chaotic supply chain model (2023). The sinusoidal uncertainty in the model accounts for the volatility and fluctuations of the supply chain model. We investigate the dynamic behaviors of NCSCM by performing a detailed Bifurcation Diagram (BD) analysis and Lyapunov Exponents (LEs). Next, we carry out a 0−1 test for the NCSCM to confirm the chaotic attractor of the system. We also study the multi-stability properties of the NCSCM. Finally, with the help of backstepping control, we derive new results for the complete synchronization of the novel chaotic supply chain models. © 2024

Development of a chickpea disease detection and classification model using deep learning

Ethiopia is the largest producer of chickpeas in Africa. Crop production and yield in Ethiopia is greatly affected by plant diseases which cause loss of agricultural products every year. One of these plant diseases is chickpea disease which is a fungal disease. Ascochyta blight and Fusarium wilt are the most common chickpea diseases in Ethiopia that affect crop production quality and quantity. The identification of these diseases requires experienced experts or systems. Although numerous methods have been previously adopted in literature, deep learning (DL) is suggested as an efficient approach for disease recognition and classification since it can automatically learn features from the input image. In this paper, a chickpea disease detection model was developed using deep learning techniques by combining Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) for feature extraction and Softmax for classification. To develop the proposed model, various image preprocessing stages such as image resizing, normalization, and noise filtering using a combination of Gaussian filter (GF) and Median filter (MF) were performed. To prevent the problem of overfitting, augmentation was applied, while to train and test the effectiveness of the developed model, 8391 images were used. From the acquired images, 80% of the dataset was used for training, 20% of the dataset was used for testing and out of the 80% training data, 20% was used for validation. The proposed CNN-LSTM performed well in identifying chickpea disease, with an accuracy of 92.55%. According to the study's findings, the proposed CNN-LSTM outperforms existing methods. © 2022 The Authors

DNN-based video object detection (VOD) powers autonomous driving and video surveillance industries with rising importance and promising opportunities. However, adversarial patch attack yields huge concern in live vision tasks because of its practicality, feasibility, and powerful attack effectiveness. This work proposes Themis, a software/hardware system to defend against adversarial patches for real-time robust video object detection. We observe that adversarial patches exhibit extremely localized superficial feature importance in a small region with non-robust predictions, and thus propose the adversarial region detection algorithm for adversarial effect elimination. Themis also proposes a systematic design to efficiently support the algorithm by eliminating redundant computations and memory traffics. Experimental results show that the proposed methodology can effectively recover the system from the adversarial attack with negligible hardware overhead. © 2022, CC BY.

Nowadays, challenges are changing production facilities: decentralized production networks are replacing centralized organizations to remain competitive. This paper investigates a resource sharing approach where matching resource offers and requests are made by an intermediate platform. One of the main pillars of collaboration is to keep promises, especially about deadlines: in the presented model, facilities could rate each other based on trustfulness and choose from offers based on this setting. Lead time prediction accuracy has a direct effect on the real processing intervals: if the prediction was accurate, the deadline could be met, which results in good ratings and a higher possibility to win more jobs. In the paper, effect of lead time prediction accuracy is investigated in trust-based resource sharing, and the performance of facilities is compared with agent-based simulation.

This article is devoted to the development of Intelligent Verbal Interaction Methods with Non-Player Characters in Metaverse Applications. The creation of a character model using MetaHuman Creator and the implementation of dialogue animation are considered. The construction of answers based on text analysis and their submission to the chat window is described. The system has been tested and found to be stable and have a satisfactory response time of approximately 2 seconds. The results show the successful implementation of methods of verbal interaction with non-game characters in metaverse, which can be useful for further research and development in this area.

Phishing is a cybersecurity problem that hackers employ to deceive individuals and organizations. Phishing is dynamic in nature;the hackers change several tricks to deceive the victims in multiple ways. It is important to track the tricks of hackers with recent technology. This study makes a notable contribution to enhancing cybersecurity defences by offering insights that aid in the detection and mitigation of phishing threats. Specifically, the study's analysis of URLs using mutual information and logistic regression techniques yielded a remarkably high accuracy rate of 99.97%, surpassing previous efforts. The identification of the most informative features for distinguishing phishing attempts provides valuable intelligence for cybersecurity professionals, enabling them to bolster defenses and stay ahead of evolving phishing tactics. © 2024
