Our goal is to achieve a robot audition system that is capable of recognizing multiple environmental sounds and making use of them in human-robot interaction. The main problems in environmental sound recognition in robot audition are: (1) recognition under a large amount of background noise including the noise from the robot itself, and (2) the necessity of robust feature extraction against spectrum distortion due to separation of multiple sound sources. This paper presents the environmental recognition of two sound sources fired simultaneously using matching pursuit (MP) with the Gabor wavelet, which extracts salient audio features from a signal. The two environmental sounds come from different directions, and they are localized by multiple signal classification and, using their geometric information, separated by geometric source separation with the aid of measured head-related transfer functions. The experimental results show the noise-robustness of MP although the performance depends on the properties of the sound sources.

This paper presents a new speed controller based on the theory of adaptive fuzzy inference system based on neural (ANFIS) for a direct torque to twelve sectors controlled of the induction motor. The proposed controller integrates fuzzy logic algorithm with a structure of artificial neural network (ANN) five-layer in order to reap the benefits of both methods, the learning abilities of the first and readability and flexibility of the second. The controller replaces the conventional PI is the rule fuzzy inference system with the hybrid learning algorithm. This makes learning the fuzzy system. The performance of the proposed neuro-fuzzy control for induction motor speed was studied at different operating conditions. The simulation study shows the robustness and relevance of control for applications in high performance driving.

Most recent researches on non-task-oriented conversation system have focused on how to make the user continue the conversation without getting bored or tired. Some studies propose several strategies enriching the expressive forms of the system's utterances so that the user would not feel monotonous. In this paper, we talk about the significance of presenting topics, and give an approach to provide and control topics for the user in a free conversation system. Specifically, the system extracts topics from the Web texts according to the user's latest interest automatically, and keeps the conversation going on by providing the fabricated topics to the user. At the same time, the system constantly detects the timing when the user might have lost interests in the current topic, and changes the current topic to another one obtained from a topic website. Experiments and questionnaires show that our method works well.

In the paper, we present a new method for classifying documents with rigid geometry. Our approach is based on the fast and robust Viola-Jones object detection algorithm. The advantages of our proposed method are high speed, the possibility of automatic model construction using a training set, and processing of raw source images without any pre-processing steps such as draft recognition, layout analysis or binarisation. Furthermore, our algorithm allows not only to classify documents, but also to detect the placement and orientation of documents within an image.
