The establishment of rail transit operation performance evaluation criteria is crucial for every rail transit operator, planner, passengers, managers, and the evaluation results are critical for sustainability of rail transit operation. We established the criteria for rail transit evaluation in Nigeria using a rail transit line that linked two major cities. In this study, we used a passenger survey, an operator interview, and a railway professional interview outcome to develop a rail transit operation evaluation performance. We then determine the objective weight of each of these criteria by adopting the method of Criteria Importance Through Inter-criteria Correlation (CRITIC). After that, the Modified Technique for Order Preference by Similarities to Ideal Solution (MTOPS-IS) was consider to select the best rail transit performance evaluation month to Ideal Solution (IS) of combined developed criterion. We began by establishing the evaluation criteria and sub-criteria, which included six criteria and 28 sub-criteria. A statistical data from the Abuja-Kaduna AKD rail transit operators was obtained, which was used as the approach's input. Finally, criteria evaluation approach was formulated, in which the product of the corresponding probability and the criteria weight will be used to formulate the performance of each indicator. The MTOPS-IS method will be employed to compute the comprehensive evaluation values and performance rankings for each month. The operation performance of AKD rail transit keeps improving with time. Terrorist incidents have little to no effect on the general performance of the entire system. The best four evaluation performances of the line fall between October 2021 and December 2021. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Reverse-engineering bar charts extracts textual and numeric information from the visual representations of bar charts to support application scenarios that require the underlying information. In this paper, we propose a neural network-based method for reverse-engineering bar charts. We adopt a neural network-based object detection model to simultaneously localize and classify textual information. This approach improves the efficiency of textual information extraction. We design an encoder–decoder framework that integrates convolutional and recurrent neural networks to extract numeric information. We further introduce an attention mechanism into the framework to achieve high accuracy and robustness. Synthetic and real-world datasets are used to evaluate the effectiveness of the method. To the best of our knowledge, this work takes the lead in constructing a complete neural network-based method of reverse-engineering bar charts. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Energy-Saving Timetable Optimization Considering Multi-Train Non-Parallel Operation Coordination in Urban rail Systems

The design of low-carbon urban rail systems, and especially the reduction of operational energy consumption, is a critical component of creating low-emission cities. Previous studies have focused on energy-saving operational strategies and timetable optimization based on parallel operation diagrams, but have overlooked the further utilization of non-parallel operation diagrams in the development of urban rail systems. Under the multi-train non-parallel operation coordination, this study proposes an energy-saving based non-parallel operation timetable optimization method with a multi-objective timetable (MOT) optimization model with considerations on both passenger flows and operational energy consumptions, and an improved multi-objective evolutionary algorithm based on NSGA-II. This study tests the feasibility of the proposed optimization method via an empirical case using data collected from the Yizhuang Line of the Beijing Metro. The results show that the proposed optimization method satisfies both the energy utilization and passenger service levels along a Pareto front. MOT improves the overall effectiveness of regenerative braking energy utilization by 29.88%;it reduces the net operational energy consumption by 44.86% relative to the Travel-Oriented Timetable (TOT);and it reduces the total passenger travel time by 27.18% compared with the Energy-Oriented Timetable (EOT). © 2023, The Authors. This paper describes a differential fare scheme (DFS) for managing different groups in an urban rail transit (URT) system. Differential fare scheme and subsidies are analyzed while accounting for the heterogeneity between general and special socio-economic groups. A social welfare maximization model is formulated to optimize fare discount rates and headway as well as ensure that different groups receive suitable subsidies. A solution method based on a divide-and-conquer algorithm is designed to solve the proposed model by considering capacity constraint, subsidy constraint, and fare constraint. A numerical study is conducted on a metro line in Guangzhou. The integration of a differential fare scheme and subsidy strategy is introduced to incentivizes special groups with fare discounts and corresponding subsidies. This study indicates that with the proposed differential fares, some latent demand for special groups is released, increasing the total demand by 11.26%. Additionally, the effects of different subsidy policies oriented toward financial feasibility, efficiency, passenger service, and operator viability are explored. © 2022, The Authors. With the widespread application of digital assets and the rapid development of blockchain technology, achieving secure and efficient transactions between different blockchain networks has become an urgent challenge. Existing cross-chain methods impose limitations, e.g., hash lock technology exhibits low scalability, side-chain technology is overly complex, and notary schemes pose centralization risks. In order to address these issues, we propose a cross-chain transaction solution based on proxy re-signature technology. To tackle the centralization concerns, we employ proxy re-signature technology to decentralize the authority of notaries among transaction participants, minimizing the potential for centralization at a low cost. We further present an extended scheme that can guarantee more requirements such as higher transaction amount and shorter transaction time. Furthermore, we analyze and compare the signature technologies used in the proposed solution and provide a systematic proof of our approach’s security.

Optimization Models for Urban rail Transit Systems with Subsidy Schemes

Considering the main role of passengers in public transportation and the purpose of government subsidies, this paper analyzes three different subsidy schemes (i.e., fixed subsidy, fare-based subsidy, and distance-based subsidy) for urban rail transit (URT). A benchmark model that maximizes social welfare is formulated and then extended to two models which account for the operator surplus and passenger surplus in determining the fare, subsidy for passengers and operating frequency. The proposed model is then solved by combining analytical methods with a heuristic algorithm. Finally, a numerical example based on the actual data from Changsha’s metro line 2 shows the effects of three different subsidy schemes on the passengers’ travel behavior and URT system performance. Numerical evaluations of different subsidy schemes based on the actual operation from Changsha’s metro line 2 show that (i) the subsidy effect and system performance of the fixed subsidy scheme are worse than for the other two subsidy schemes;(ii) the fare-based subsidy scheme has the highest social welfare and passenger surplus among the three schemes;(iii) the distance-based subsidy scheme is the most profitable and requires the least subsidy. © 2022, The Authors. Predicting the distributions of path flow between origin-destination (OD) pairs in an urban road network is crucial for developing efficient traffic control and management strategies. Here, we use the large-scale taxi GPS trajectory data of San Francisco and Shenzhen to study the predictability of path flow distribution in urban road networks. We develop an approach to project the time-varying path flow distributions into a high-dimensional space. In the high-dimensional space, information entropy is used to measure the predictability of path flow distribution. We find that the distributions of path flow between OD pairs are in general characterized with a high predictability. In addition, we analyze the factors affecting the predictability of path flow distribution. Finally, an n-gram model incorporating high-order gram and low-order gram is proposed to predict the distribution of path flow. A relatively high prediction accuracy is achieved. © 2024

The gamma-ray detectors (GRDs) of GECAM-C onborad SATech-01 satellite is designed to monitor gamma-ray transients all over the sky from 6 keV to 6 MeV. The energy response matrix is the key to do spectral measurements of bursts, which is usually generated from GEANT4 simulation and partially verified by the ground calibration. In this work, energy response matrix of GECAM-C GRD is cross-calibrated with Fermi/GBM and Swift/BAT using a sample of Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) and Soft Gamma-Ray Repeaters (SGRs). The calibration results show there is a good agreement between GECAM-C and other reasonably well calibrated instrument (i.e. Fermi/GBM and Swift/BAT). We also find that different GRD detectors of GECAM-C also show consistency with each other. All these results indicate that GECAM-C GRD can provide reliable spectral measurements.
