This paper summarizes the mathematical and numerical theories and computational elements of the adaptive fast multipole Poisson-Boltzmann(AFMPB)*** introduce and discuss the following components in order:the Poisson-Boltzmann model,boundary integral equation reformulation,surface mesh generation,the nodepatch discretization approach,Krylov iterative methods,the new version of fast multipole methods(FMMs),and a dynamic prioritization technique for scheduling parallel *** each component,we also remark on feasible approaches for further improvements in efficiency,accuracy and applicability of the AFMPB solver to largescale long-time molecular dynamics *** potential of the solver is demonstrated with preliminary numerical results.

This work intends to schedule a dual-arm cluster tool for the atomic layer deposition (ALD) process with wafer residency time constraints. ALD is a typical wafer revisiting process. Based on the analysis of system properties, a novel scheduling strategy called modified 1-wafer cyclic scheduling is derived. With this strategy, necessary and sufficient schedulability conditions are established. If schedulable, scheduling algorithms are presented to obtain a feasible and optimal schedule. By the proposed method, a schedule can be found by just simple calculation. An illustrative example is given to show the application of the proposed approach. © 2013 IEEE.

It is very challenging to schedule a multi-cluster tool for it needs to coordinate the activities of multiple robots. This paper studies one-wafer cyclic scheduling for multi-cluster tools whose bottleneck cluster tool is process-bound. A Petri net model is developed to describe the system. Based on the model, it is shown that, for any multi-cluster tool whose bottleneck cluster tool is process-bound, there is always a one-wafer cyclic schedule. Then, a method is presented to find the minimal cycle time and the optimal one-wafer cyclic schedule. The method requires only simple calculation. An example illustrates the application and effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2013 IEEE.

Situational awareness (SA) in simple terms is to understand the current state of the system and based on that understanding predict how system states are to evolve over time. Predictive modeling of power systems using conventional methods is time consuming and hence not well suited for real-time operation. In this study, neural network (NN) based non-linear predictor is used to predict states of power system for future time instance. Required control signals are computed based on predicted state variables and control set points. In order to reduce computation the problem is decoupled and solved in a cellular array of NNs. The cellular neural network (CNN) framework allows for accurate prediction with only minimal information exchange between neighboring predictors. The predicted states are then used in computing stability metrics that give proximity to point of instability. The situational awareness platform developed using CNN framework extracts information from data for the next time instance i.e. a step ahead of time and maps this data with geographical coordinates of power system components. The geographic information system (GIS) provides a visual indication of operating status of individual components as well as that of the entire system.

Recently, data center carbon emission has become an emerging concern for the cloud service providers. Previous works are limited on cutting down the power consumption of the data centers to defuse such a concern. In this paper, we show how the spatial and temporal variabilities of the electricity carbon footprint can be fully exploited to further green the cloud running on top of geographically distributed data centers. We jointly consider the electricity cost, service level agreement (SLA) requirement, and emission reduction budget. To navigate such a three-way tradeoff, we take advantage of Lyapunov optimization techniques to design and analyze a carbon-aware control framework, which makes online decisions on geographical load balancing, capacity right-sizing, and server speed scaling. Results from rigorous mathematical analyses and real-world trace-driven empirical evaluation demonstrate its effectiveness in both minimizing electricity cost and reducing carbon emission.

A recent focus in itemset mining has been the discovery of frequent itemsets from high-dimensional datasets. With exponentially increasing running time as average row length increases, mining such datasets renders most conventional algorithms impractical. Unfortunately, large cardinality itemsets are likely to be more informative than small cardinality itemsets in this type of dataset. This paper proposes an approach, termed DisClose, to extract large cardinality (colossal) closed itemsets from high-dimensional datasets. The approach relies on a Compact Row-Tree data structure to represent itemsets during the search process. Large cardinality itemsets are enumerated first followed by smaller ones. In addition, we utilize a minimum cardinality threshold to further reduce the search space. Experimental results show that DisClose can achieve extraction of colossal closed itemsets in the discovered datasets, even for low support thresholds. The algorithm immediately discovers closed itemsets without needing to check if each new closed itemset has previously been found. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

With the enormous growth of online reviews in Internet, sentiment analysis has received more and more attention in information retrieval and natural language processing community. Up to now there are very few researches conducted on sentiment analysis for Persian documents. This paper considers the problem of sentiment classification for online customer reviews in Persian language. One of the challenges of Persian language is using of a wide variety of declensional suffixes. Another common problem of Persian text is word spacing. In Persian in addition to white space as interwords space, an intra-word space called pseudo-space separates word's part. One more noticeable challenge in customer reviews in Persian language is that of utilizing many informal or colloquial words in text. In this paper we study these challenges by proposing a model for sentiment classification of Persian review documents. The proposed model is based on a lemmatization approach for Persian language and is employed Naive Bayes learning algorithm for classification. Additionally we present a new feature selection method based on the mutual information method to extract the best feature collection from the initial extracted features. Finally we evaluate the performance of the model on a manually gathered collection of cellphone reviews, where the results show the effectiveness of the proposed model.

Among other functions, the smart grid is a vehicle to maximize the penetration of wind power by exploiting the use of energy storage devices in order to maximize the utilization of renewable energy and bring about maximum reduction in emissions. Large number of electric vehicles in a parking lot enabled to carry out vehicle-to-grid (V2G) transactions has been termed as a 'SmartPark' by the author. The use of vehicle-to-grid technology, information technology and advanced computational methods can provide short term real and reactive power support to overcome the drawback of the intermittent nature of renewable sources of electricity. This paper presents the intelligent control of SmartParks to enhance a smart grid's capability to compensate and mitigate active and reactive power fluctuations caused by the variability in wind power penetration in selected transmission lines and network buses. © 2012 IEEE.

Metamaterial absorbers realized in an X-band rectangular waveguide

In this paper, we demonstrate six types of metamaterial absorbers （MMAs） by measuring their absorptivities in an X-band （8 12 GHz） rectangular waveguide. Some of the MMAs have been demonstrated previously by using the free space measurement method, and the others are proposed firstly in this paper. The measured results show that all of the six MMAs exhibit high absorptivities above 98%, which have similar absorbing characteristics to those measured in the free space. The numerically obtained surface current densities for each MMA show that the absorbing mechanism is the same as that under the free space conditions. Such a demonstration method is superior to the conventional free space measurement method due to the small-scale test samples required, the simple measure device, and its low cost. Most importantly, the proposed method opens a way to enable MMAs to be used in microwave applications such as matched terminations.
