Detecting how a vehicle is steered and then alarming drivers in real time is of utmost importance to the vehicle and the driver's safety, since fatal accidents are often caused by dangerous steering. Existing solutions for detecting dangerous maneuvers are implemented either in only high-end vehicles or on smartphones as mobile applications. However, most of them rely on the use of cameras, the performance of which is seriously constrained by their high visibility requirement. Moreover, such an over/sole-reliance on the use of cameras can be a distraction to the driver. To alleviate these problems, we develop a vehicle steering detection middleware called V-Sense which can run on commodity smartphones without additional sensors or infrastructure support. Instead of using cameras, the core of V-Sense senses a vehicle's steering by only utilizing non- vision sensors on the smartphone. We design and evaluate algorithms for detecting and di erentiating various vehicle maneuvers, including lane-changes, turns, and driving on curvy roads. Since V-Sense does not rely on use of cameras, its detection of vehicle steering is not a ected by the (in)visibility of road objects or other vehicles. We first detail the design, implementation and evaluation of V-Sense and then demonstrate its practicality with two prevalent use cases: camera-free steering detection and fine-grained lane guidance. Our extensive evaluation results show that V- Sense is accurate in determining and di erentiating various steering maneuvers, and is thus useful for a wide range of safety-assistance applications without additional sensors or infrastructure. Semantic representation of evidence-based medical guidelines provides the support for the data inter-operability and has been found many applications in the medical domain. In this paper, we describe a semantic representation approach of evidence-based medical guidelines, which is based on the Semantic Web Technology standards. We discuss several use cases of that semantic representation of evidence-based medical guideline, and show that they are potentially useful for medical applications.

This paper presents a novel extended multi-structure local binary pattern (EMSLBP) approach for high-resolution image classification, generalizing the well-known local binary pattern (LBP) approach. In the proposed EMSLBP approach, three-coupled descriptors with multi-structure sampling are proposed to extract complementary features (pixel value and radial difference) from local image patches. The anisotropic features derived from elliptical sampling are also rotation invariant by averaging the histograms over rotational angles and combined with the isotropic features extracted from circular sampling. Experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively capture local spatial pattern and local contrast, consistently outperforming several state-of-the-art classification algorithms.

The use of cloud storage services has increased rapidly in many organizations. However, the security of data stored in the cloud still remains major concerns. Due to risks of service availability failure and the possibility of malicious insiders in the single cloud, researches about "multi-clouds" have emerged recently. Recent researches that are related to multi-clouds have some limitations. For instance, Redundant Array of Cloud Storage (RACS) does not ensure data confidentiality. The performance of system is low in DEPSKY and so on. This paper presents a data hiding scheme that is based on Lagrange interpolation algorithm and multi-clouds. This scheme addresses data availability, data confidentiality and vendor lock-in issue in cloud storage services through the erasure codes and Lagrange interpolation algorithm instead of encryption to store data on diverse clouds. The performance analysis was done through experiences. We observed that our scheme improved the performance for the response times of data uploaded and downloaded.

Adding to societal changes today, are the miscellaneous big data produced in different fields. Coupled with these data is the appearance of risk management. Admittedly, to predict future trend by using these data is conducive to make everything more efficient and easy. Now, no matter companies or individuals, they increasingly focus on identifying risks and managing them before risks. Effective risk management will lead them to deal with potential problems. This thesis focuses on risk management of flight delay area using big real time data. It proposes two different prediction models, one is called General Long Term Departure Prediction Model and the other is named as Improved real time Arrival Prediction Model. By studying the main factors lead to flight delay, this thesis takes weather, carrier, National Aviation System, security and previous late aircraft as analysis factors. By utilizing our models can do not only long time but also short term flight delay predictions. The results demonstrate goodness of fit. Besides the theory part, it also presents a practical and beautiful web application for real time flight arrival prediction based on our second model.

In the design flow of integrated circuits, chip-level verification is an important step that sanity checks the performance is as expected. Power grid verification is one of the most expensive and time-consuming steps of chip-level verification, due to its extremely large size. Efficient power grid analysis technology is highly demanded as it saves computing resources and enables faster iteration. In this paper, a topology-base power grid transient analysis algorithm is proposed. Nodal analysis is adopted to analyze the topology which is mathematically equivalent to iteratively solving a positive semi-definite linear equation. The convergence of the method is proved. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

We consider a real-time system of multiple tasks, each task having a plant to control. The overall quadratic control cost is to be optimized. We exploit the periodicity of the task response time, which corresponds to a periodic delay pattern in the feedback control loop. Perturbed periods are used as a tool to find a finite hyper period. We present an analytical procedure to design a periodic linear-quadratic-Gaussian (LQG) controller for tasks with fixed execution times as well as a numerical solution to the periodic -- stochastic LQG problem for tasks with variable execution times. The controllers are evaluated using simulations in real-time scheduling and control co-design examples.

With the rapid development of e-commerce, the application of web service composition is becoming increasingly important in many areas. If we apply unchecked web service composition, then we can only discover problems afterwards, and we have to devote unnecessary energy to repair. Here, formal modeling serves to be a premise to check. This paper brings up a formal modeling method for web service composition based on BDL (behavioral description language). The structure of this essay is to analyze the description of BPEL process, and we can get the formal model from the BPEL-to-BDL mapping relation. © 2015 SERSC.

The dramatic growth of massive semantic data has brought about great challenges to the distributed storage for large data. The core technology of distributed storage is graph partitioning. This paper discussed the partition mechanism for graph data flow and the strategy of partitioning heuristic function, and the partitioning algorithm and implementation process of graph data flow for the RDF file. The experiment verified the validity of the partitioning algorithm for graph data flow by comparing with METIS (a multi-level graph partitioning algorithm) and hash partitioning methods, using several true RDF datasets.
