Motivated by the advancing computational capacity of distributed end-user equipment (UE), as well as the increasing concerns about sharing private data, there has been considerable recent interest in machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) that can be processed on distributed UEs. Specifically, in this paradigm, parts of a ML process are outsourced to multiple distributed UEs. Then the processed information is aggregated on a certain level at a central server, which turns a centralized ML process into a distributed one, and brings about significant benefits. However, this new distributed ML paradigm raises new risks of privacy and security issues. In this paper, we provide a survey on the emerging security and privacy risks of distributed ML from a unique perspective of information exchange levels, which are defined according to the key steps of a ML process, i.e.: i) the level of pre-processed data, ii) the level of learning models, iii) the level of extracted knowledge and, iv) the level of intermediate results. We explore and analyze the potential of threats for each information exchange level based on an overview of the current state-of-the-art attack mechanisms, and then discuss the possible defense methods against such threats. Finally, we complete the survey by providing an outlook on the challenges and possible directions for future research in this critical area. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Indoor positioning is a thriving research area, which is slowly gaining market momentum. Its applications are mostly customized, ad hoc installations;ubiquitous applications analogous to Global Navigation Satellite System for outdoors are not available because of the lack of generic platforms, widely accepted standards and interoperability protocols. In this context, the indoor positioning and indoor navigation (IPIN) competition is the only long-term, technically sound initiative to monitor the state of the art of real systems by measuring their performance in a realistic environment. Most competing systems are pedestrian-oriented and based on the use of smartphones, but several competing tracks were set up, enabling comparison of an array of technologies. The two IPIN competitions described here include only off-site tracks. In contrast with on-site tracks where competitors bring their systems on-site - which were impossible to organize during 2021 and 2022 - in off-site tracks competitors download prerecorded data from multiple sensors and process them using the EvaalAPI, a real-time, web-based emulation interface. As usual with IPIN competitions, tracks were compliant with the EvAAL framework, ensuring consistency of the measurement procedure and reliability of results. The main contribution of this work is to show a compilation of possible indoor positioning scenarios and different indoor positioning solutions to the same problem. © 2023 CCBY.

The increasing quality of service requirements and demand for satellite services necessitate higher data rates, spectral efficiency, and stability in satellite communication networks. Therefore, this paper investigates the non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) assisted satellite communication networks, where multiple users are uniformly distributed over a spherical hat according to the homogeneous Poisson point process (HPPP). Based on the characteristics of HPPP, we analyze the distance distributions of users. To evaluate the performance of the proposed networks, we first derive the closed-form expressions and approximated expressions of the outage probability (OP) for paired NOMA users. To obtain more insights into the proposed networks, the ergodic rate and diversity orders for paired NOMA users are also derived. Spectral efficiency is derived for NOMA and orthogonal multiple access (OMA) assisted satellite communication networks. Our analytical results demonstrate that the diversity order of the proposed networks is all one. Numerical results confirm that: 1) compared to OMA, the proposed NOMA-assisted satellite network demonstrates superior outage performance and spectral efficiency, especially in the higher power regimes;2) fading factors have negligible effects on OP and spectral efficiency;and 3) under certain target rates for both near and far users, the outage performance of far users in NOMA-assisted satellite communication networks is superior to that of near users. © 2024 Institute of electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. We introduce the *** package, a Julia implementation of the Differential Evolution Analytic Continuation (DEAC) algorithm [N. S. Nichols et al., Phys. Rev. E 106, 025312 (2022)] for analytically continuing noisy imaginary time correlation functions to the real frequency axis. Our implementation supports fermionic and bosonic correlation functions on either the imaginary time or Matsubara frequency axes, and treatment of the covariance error in the input data. This paper presents an overview of the DEAC algorithm and the features implemented in the *** package. It also provides detailed benchmarks of the package's output against the popular maximum entropy and stochastic analytic continuation methods. The code for this package can be downloaded from our GitHub repository at https://***/SmoQySuite/*** or installed using the Julia package manager. In the early stage of harvesting, transportation, and storage, the grain could be mingled with clods from the field, metal pieces from aging machines, and other objects of foreign material, which will greatly influence the grain quality and food security. In this paper, we propose a novel radio frequency (RF) sensing system termed TagSee, which leverages passive RFID tag arrays. The goal is to simultaneously sense the presence of foreign materials and locate their locations in the 3D space, to automatically monitor the stored grain. Specifically, we use RFID received signal strength (RSS) and phase as features for foreign material detection. To design the TagSee system, we first introduce a sensing space division method. Then, an Euclidean Distance Ratio (EDR) algorithm and a heuristic method are proposed to achieve high localization accuracy. Experimental results show that TagSee can effectively detect foreign materials in stored grain and achieve a centimeter-level localization accuracy.

The growing demand for location-based services in areas like virtual reality, robot control, and navigation has intensified the focus on indoor localization. Visible light positioning (VLP), leveraging visible light communications (VLC), becomes a promising indoor positioning technology due to its high accuracy and low cost. This paper provides a comprehensive survey of VLP systems. In particular, since VLC lays the foundation for VLP, we first present a detailed overview of the principles of VLC. Then, we provide an in-depth overview of VLP algorithms. The performance of each positioning algorithm is also compared in terms of various metrics such as accuracy, coverage, and orientation limitation. Beyond the physical layer studies, the network design for a VLP system is also investigated, including multi-access technologies, resource allocation, and light-emitting diode (LED) placements. Next, the applications of the VLP systems are overviewed. Finally, this paper outlines open issues, challenges, and opportunities for the research field. In a nutshell, this paper constitutes the first holistic survey on VLP from state-of-the-art studies to practical uses. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

We study the variability of vertically stacked gate-all-around silicon nanosheet (GAA Si NS) complementary field-effect transistors (CFETs). The process variation effect (PVE), the work function fluctuation (WKF), and the random dopant fluctuation (RDF) of CFETs are statistically estimated using an experimentally validated device simulation technique. Among five factors of PVE, the channel thickness (T Nch /T Pch ), the channel width (W ch ), and the gate length (L G ) are significant. Owing to superior GAA channel control and increased effective gate area, both WKF and RDF are suppressed. Notably, the PVE on both N-/P-FETs of GAA Si CFET induce the largest off-state current fluctuations of 80% and 278%, respectively, because the device characteristic is very sensitive to the layer thickness and width of channel.

Language-specific Characteristic Assistance for Code-switching Speech Recognition

Dual-encoder structure successfully utilizes two language-specific encoders (LSEs) for code-switching speech recognition. Because LSEs are initialized by two pre-trained language-specific models (LSMs), the dual-encoder structure can exploit sufficient monolingual data and capture the individual language attributes. However, most existing methods have no language constraints on LSEs and underutilize language-specific knowledge of LSMs. In this paper, we propose a language-specific characteristic assistance (LSCA) method to mitigate the above problems. Specifically, during training, we introduce two language-specific losses as language constraints and generate corresponding language-specific targets for them. During decoding, we take the decoding abilities of LSMs into account by combining the output probabilities of two LSMs and the mixture model to obtain the final predictions. Experiments show that either the training or decoding method of LSCA can improve the model's performance. Furthermore, the best result can obtain up to 15.4% relative error reduction on the code-switching test set by combining the training and decoding methods of LSCA. Moreover, the system can process code-switching speech recognition tasks well without extra shared parameters or even retraining based on two pre-trained LSMs by using our method.
