To address the challenges of vehicle attribute recognition in traffic management, intelligent parking systems, and road surveillance, this paper proposes an algorithm that integrates the Squeeze-and-Excitation (SE) attention mechanism into ResNet34. The SE mechanism is added after each BasicBlock, with a total of 16 SE modules incorporated to train the network. The optimal model is achieved after 100 iterations. The SE mechanism enhances the network’s ability to focus on key features by adaptively adjusting the importance of features across channels, thereby improving the effectiveness of feature representation. This dynamic adjustment allows the model to better adapt to complex and varying image structures, demonstrating strong adaptability in vehicle attribute recognition tasks. Experimental results show a significant improvement in recognition accuracy, with the enhanced ResNet34 model achieving a 5.1% increase in vehicle attribute recognition accuracy compared to the original ResNet34. The proposed algorithm effectively improves recognition performance, offering valuable technical support for the application of intelligent transportation systems. © The Authors.

Functional connectivity networks (FCNs), particularly those utilizing the phase lag index (PLI) method, have been instrumental in elucidating the pathological features of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) by assessing the synchrony and lag of electroencephalogram (EEG) signal waveforms. Currently, the more prevalent methods are traditional FCNs that quantify phase synchronization as scalar values and dynamic FCNs (D-FCNs) that employ sliding window approaches to capture the instantaneous variations in functional connectivity. However, these two methods merely capture the low-level functional connections between paired regions of interest (ROIs) from both the static and dynamic perspectives, and fail to reflect the high-level functional connections involving multiple ROIs. Moreover, the feature dimension of the dynamic FCN is excessively high, and there exists a phase mismatch issue between different samples, which renders it impossible to be directly applied to the classification task, and no better solution is available at present. To mitigate these issues, we proposed a comprehensive framework that includes segmenting EEG sequences based on PLI to construct dynamic FCNs;employing seventh-order central moments for feature extraction to form low-order FCNs (Lo-FCNs);and establishing high-order FCNs (Ho-FCNs) based on Pearson correlation theory derived from Lo-FCNs. We conducted classification experiments across four distinct EEG frequency bands using our proposed framework while analyzing relevant features through graph theory and brain topological mapping techniques. The experiments showed that the proposed framework has a high classification accuracy rate in the classification experiments of MDD and NC, and proved the importance of high-order features in classification experiments, indicating that they may serve as physiological markers for MDD diagnosis. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

The number of elevators in china's urbanization process has increased significantly, yet they face safety problems such as aging and insufficient maintenance. This paper introduces an intelligent IoT elevator system, comprising a data acquisition terminal and a cloud platform, utilizing a hierarchical architecture and a variety of key technologies. The system can monitor elevator operations in real time, collect and analyze large amounts of data to predict failures, and provide maintenance plans. It also features real-time alarm, rescue management, and maintenance management functions. These improvements enhance rescue efficiency, reduce maintenance costs, ensure the safe operation of elevators, and improve the efficiency and transparency of safety management. © 2025 SPIE.

Fluorescence molecular tomography (FMT) is a highly sensitive method for depicting the three-dimensional distribution of fluorescent targets within biological tissues. However, traditional FMT reconstruction can be affected by the severe photon scattering and the modeling errors of the photon propagation model, making it difficult to obtain accurate reconstruction results. Deep learning methods can directly learn the nonlinear mapping between the photon intensity on the surface and the internal light sources, providing a promising approach for addressing the inverse problem in FMT. Since the second near-infrared window (NIR-II, 1000-1700) fluorescence imaging has a higher tissue penetration depth and imaging contrast, this work constructs a deep learning model suitable for the fluorescence images in this spectrum. The model introduced in this study, akin to grasping the contextual nuances of word vectors in the domain of machine translation, endeavors to comprehend the process of photon transmission within biological tissues. Inspired by the transformer encoder, we proposed a network mainly consist of positional encoding, dual-head attention mechanism, residual connection, and fully connected layers. It has achieved significantly better results than comparative methods on the NIR-II dataset constructed by the Monte Carlo method. © 2025 SPIE.

UAV-Assisted Joint Mobile Edge Computing and data Collection via Matching-Enabled Deep Reinforcement Learning

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted mobile edge computing (MEC) and data collection (DC) have been popular research issues. Different from existing works that consider MEC and DC scenarios separately, this paper investigates a multi-UAV-assisted joint MEC-DC system. Specifically, we formulate a joint optimization problem to minimize the MEC latency and maximize the collected data volume. This problem can be classified as a non-convex mixed integer programming problem that exhibits long-term optimization and dynamics. Thus, we propose a deep reinforcement learning-based approach that jointly optimizes the UAV movement, user transmit power, and user association in real time to solve the problem efficiently. Specifically, we reformulate the optimization problem into an action space-reduced Markov decision process (MDP) and optimize the user association by using a two-phase matching-based association (TMA) strategy. Subsequently, we propose a soft actor-critic (SAC)-based approach that integrates the proposed TMA strategy (SAC-TMA) to solve the formulated joint optimization problem collaboratively. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed SAC-TMA is able to coordinate the two subsystems and can effectively reduce the system latency and improve the data collection volume compared with other benchmark algorithms. © 2025 IEEE. An expansion of Internet of Things (IoTs) has led to significant challenges in wireless data harvesting, dissemination, and energy management due to the massive volumes of data generated by IoT devices. These challenges are exacerbated by data redundancy arising from spatial and temporal correlations. To address these issues, this paper proposes a novel data-driven collaborative beamforming (CB)-based communication framework for IoT networks. Specifically, the framework integrates CB with an overlap-based multi-hop routing protocol (OMRP) to enhance data transmission efficiency while mitigating energy consumption and addressing hot spot issues in remotely deployed IoT networks. Based on the data aggregation to a specific node by OMRP, we formulate a node selection problem for the CB stage, with the objective of optimizing uplink transmission energy consumption. Given the complexity of the problem, we introduce a softmax-based proximal policy optimization with long-short-term memory (SoftPPO-LSTM) algorithm to intelligently select CB nodes for improving transmission efficiency. Simulation results show that the proposed OMRP improves network lifetime by 17% compared to benchmark routing protocols, while the SoftPPO-LSTM method for CB node selection achieves an 8.3% increase in throughput over benchmark algorithms. The results also reveal that the combined OMRP with the SoftPPO-LSTM method effectively mitigates hot spot problems and offers superior performance compared to traditional strategies. © 2014 IEEE.

Semantic segmentation of remote sensing images (RSIs) is essential for applications such as environmental monitoring, urban planning, and disaster management. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and their variants struggle to capture comprehensive spectral context for learning discriminative representations. In this paper, we propose a Spectrum-Enhanced Network (SPENet) that leverages the Frequency Transformer Block (FTB) to capture rich spectral context. FTB integrates Spectrum-Enhanced Attention (SEA) with Multi-Head Frequency Self-Attention (MH-FSA), incorporating more informative contextual cues. Specifically, SEA aggregates spectral statistics through covariance matrix normalization before applying channel-wise attention. By projecting feature maps onto the frequency domain, MH-FSA provides the network with a broader context, extending beyond the low-frequency focus of standard self-attention mechanisms. Extensive experiments on the ISPRS Potsdam and LoveDA datasets show that SPENet significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods. Besides, the proposed SEA module notably rises average F1-score/overall accuracy/mean insert over union wiht more than 2.5/2.6%/2.3%, as demonstrated by ablation study. © 2025 IEEE.

An enhanced sparse subset selection model based on adaptive projection distance

Subset selection focuses on identifying representative samples from a large dataset to produce a data subset that can represent the main features of the original data and also reduce the data size in an effective way. Sparse representation theory puts emphasis on enhancing the data sparsity, while subset selection aims to reduce the data size. Sparse subset selection is an important branch of subset selection that incorporates sparse representation theory into the exploration of subset selection. Sparse modeling representative selection model has demonstrated outstanding performance in data classification and video summarization. Nonetheless, it suffers from the issue of poor typicality of the selected representatives. Although some recent works have addressed this problem to some extent by introducing the concept of clustering coding terms, most of the clustering coding terms constructed by these existing methods are implicit, and the model structure is complicated, inefficient, and difficult to be understood. To overcome these difficulties, we propose an adaptive projection distance-based sparse subset selection model. This model constructs a clustering coding item by adaptively calculating the projection distance between data. It can not only eliminate redundant and noisy features in the original data but also ensure that the selected representatives are more typical. To solve the proposed model, an efficient algorithm is developed by virtue of the alternating direction method of multipliers. Extensive experiments with comparative analysis demonstrate that the proposed model outperforms several state-of-the-art models in various tasks including subset selection, cluster analysis, classification, and face image representative selection. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2025.

A novel color-tunable β-Ca3(PO4)2-type phosphor with applications in WLEDs and anti-counterfeiting

Ca9-xNaLu2/3(PO4)7:xEu2+(0.005 ≤ x ≤ 0.04) phosphors were synthesized via a high-temperature solid-state method. Eu2+ ions were found to occupy the Ca3, Ca1/Ca2, and Na sites, corresponding to emission peaks at 422 nm, 485 nm, and 530 nm, respectively. At a low doping concentration (x = 0.005), Eu2+ ions were evenly distributed between the Ca3 and Ca1/Ca2 sites. As the doping concentration increased, the emission intensity at 422 nm decreased and eventually disappeared, while the emission at 485 nm gradually intensified until concentration quenching occurred. This behavior was primarily attributed to the preferential occupancy of Eu2+ ions and the associated energy transfer. By partially substituting Lu3+ with Ca2+, Ca9+yNaLu2(1-y)/3(PO4)7:0.02Eu2+ phosphors (0 ≤ y ≤ 1) were synthesized, resulting in enhanced emission intensity at 422 nm with a redshift, while the 485 nm emission showed reduced intensity and a blueshift. This adjustment shifted the emission color gradually from cyan to blue. Building on this, Ca9.6-zNaLu2∗0.4/3(PO4)7:0.02Eu2+,zMn2+(0.1 ≤ z ≤ 0.55) phosphors were prepared, enabling color tunability from blue to white and ultimately red with increasing Mn2+ concentration. Detailed analysis of the Eu2+→Mn2+ energy transfer (ET) process revealed a transfer efficiency of up to 96.45 % at 422 nm. White-light-emitting diode (WLED) devices fabricated using Ca9.6-zNaLu2∗0.4/3(PO4)7:0.02Eu2+,zMn2+(z = 0.1, 0.15) phosphors combined with 365 nm chips exhibited excellent performance, with a high color rendering index (CRI = 93.5) and low correlated color temperature (CCT = 4756 K). Additionally, anti-counterfeiting inks were prepared by mixing Ca9.6NaLu2∗0.4/3(PO4)7:0.025Eu2+ phosphors with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) solutions and filling them into floral stamps. These inks exhibited distinct color changes under UV excitation at 302 nm and 365 nm, demonstrating the phosphor's strong potential for anti-counterfeiting applications. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Grou
