Tables, typically two-dimensional and structured to store large amounts of data, are essential in daily activities like database queries, spreadsheet manipulations, web table question answering, and image table information extraction. Automating these table-centric tasks with Large Language Models (LLMs) or Visual Language Models (VLMs) offers significant public benefits, garnering interest from academia and industry. This survey provides a comprehensive overview of table-related tasks, examining both user scenarios and technical aspects. It covers traditional tasks like table question answering as well as emerging fields such as spreadsheet manipulation and table data analysis. We summarize the training techniques for LLMs and VLMs tailored for table processing. Additionally, we discuss prompt engineering, particularly the use of LLM-powered agents, for various table-related tasks. Finally, we highlight several challenges, including diverse user input when serving and slow thinking using chain-of-thought. © 2024, CC BY.

In edge computing (EC), resource allocation is to allocate computing, storage and networking resources on the edge nodes (ENs) efficiently and reasonably to tasks generated by users. Due to the resource-limitation of ENs, the tasks often need to compete for the resources. Pricing mechanisms are widely used to deal with the resource allocation problem, and the valuations of tasks play a critical role in the price mechanisms. However, users naturally are not willing to expose the valuations of their tasks due to conflicts of interests. Current research works usually adopt truthful auctions to motivate the users to report honestly the valuations of their tasks. In this paper, we introduce the marginal value to estimate the valuations of tasks, and propose a marginal value-based pricing mechanism using the incentive theory, which motivates the tasks with higher marginal values to actively request more resources. The EC platform sets the resource prices using the price mechanism, and then the users determine their resource requests relying on the resource prices and the valuations of their tasks. After receiving the deadline-sensitive tasks from the users, the resource allocation can be modeled as a knapsack problem with the deadline constraints. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that our approach is computationally efficient and is promising in enhancing the utility of the EC platform and the tasks.

In the context of continuous advancements in modern industry and the escalating demands for the safety and reliability of control systems, timely fault diagnosis of control systems becomes paramount. Driven by this imperative, this article devotes to data-driven design of fault detection systems based on subspace identification method. For this purpose, a fault detection approach based on Subspace State Space System Identification and model-based full-dimensional observer design is firstly designed. It is followed by a data-driven fault detection approach based on one-step identification of stable kernel representation and direct design of the residual generator. Finally, the effectiveness and performance of the two proposed approaches have been verified through a case study on the laboratory threetank system. © 2024 IEEE.

Among deep learning-based hyperspectral image (HSI) classification models, convolutional neural networks (CNNs), Transformers, Mamba, and large kernel CNNs (LKCNNs) models have been widely explored for HSI classification. Nonetheless, these models suffer from several challenges: for example, 1) CNNs have a weak learning ability in capturing global information between land covers, due to their limited receptive field derived from small kernel convolutions;2) Transformers face quadratic computational complexity introduced by their self-attention mechanisms;and 3) LKCNNs require further enhancement in extracting global features, owing to the insufficient size of their receptive fields. To tackle these limitations, we propose a novel multi-scale large kernel vertical-horizontal attention network (LKVHAN) for HSI classification. The proposed LKVHAN consists of a 1 x 1 convolution module and a multi-scale large kernel vertical-horizontal attention-based convolution (MSLKVHAC). The 1 x 1 convolution module is designed to facilitate band reduction, noise suppression, and spectral feature learning. Furthermore, the MSLKVHAC, leveraging a large vertical kernel size of 17 x 1 and a large horizontal kernel size of 1 x 17, extracts both local and global spatial features by incorporating a vertical attention-based convolution module (VACM) and a horizontal attention-based convolution module (HACM). Extensive experimental results demonstrate that the proposed LKVHAN significantly outperforms ten state-of-the-art approaches across four widely used HSI datasets. © 2008-2012 IEEE.

In the realm of multi-intent spoken language understanding, recent advancements have leveraged the potential of prompt learning frameworks. However, critical gaps exist in these frameworks: the lack of explicit modeling of dual-task dependencies and the oversight of task-specific semantic differences among utterances. To address these shortcomings, we propose DC-Instruct, a novel generative framework based on Dual-task Inter-dependent Instructions (DII) and Supervised Contrastive Instructions (SCI). Specifically, DII guides large language models (LLMs) to generate labels for one task based on the other task's labels, thereby explicitly capturing dual-task inter-dependencies. Moreover, SCI leverages utterance semantics differences by guiding LLMs to determine whether a pair of utterances share the same or similar labels. This can improve LLMs on extracting and discriminating task-specific semantics, thus enhancing their SLU reasoning abilities. Extensive experiments on public benchmark datasets show that DC-Instruct markedly outperforms current generative models and state-of-the-art methods, demonstrating its effectiveness in enhancing dialogue language understanding and reasoning. © 2024 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Uncovering the Impact of Chain-of-Thought Reasoning for Direct Preference Optimization: Lessons from Text-to-SQL

Direct Preference Optimization (DPO) has proven effective in complex reasoning tasks like math word problems and code generation. However, when applied to Text-to-SQL datasets, it often fails to improve performance and can even degrade it. Our investigation reveals the root cause: unlike math and code tasks, which naturally integrate Chain-of-Thought (CoT) reasoning with DPO, Text-to-SQL datasets typically include only final answers (gold SQL queries) without detailed CoT solutions. By augmenting Text-to-SQL datasets with synthetic CoT solutions, we achieve, for the first time, consistent and significant performance improvements using DPO. Our analysis shows that CoT reasoning is crucial for unlocking DPO’s potential, as it mitigates reward hacking, strengthens discriminative capabilities, and improves scalability. These findings offer valuable insights for building more robust Text-to-SQL models. To support further research, we publicly release the code and CoT-enhanced datasets © 2025, CC BY.

This paper presents a 6-layer customized convolutional neural network model(6L-CNN)to rapidly screen out patients with COVID-19 infection in chest CT *** model can effectively detect whether the target CT image contains images of pneumonia *** this method,6L-CNN was trained as a binary classifier using the dataset containing CT images of the lung with and without pneumonia as a *** results show that the model improves the accuracy of screening out COVID-19 *** to othermethods,the performance is *** addition,the method can be extended to other similar clinical conditions.

Large-scale graphs usually exhibit global sparsity with local cohesiveness,and mining the representative cohesive subgraphs is a fundamental problem in graph *** k-truss is one of the most commonly studied cohesive subgraphs,in which each edge is formed in at least k 2 triangles.A critical issue in mining a k-truss lies in the computation of the trussness of each edge,which is the maximum value of k that an edge can be in a *** works mostly focus on truss computation in static graphs by sequential ***,the graphs are constantly changing dynamically in the real *** study distributed truss computation in dynamic graphs in this *** particular,we compute the trussness of edges based on the local nature of the k-truss in a synchronized node-centric distributed *** decomposing the trussness of edges by relying only on local topological information is possible with the proposed distributed decomposition ***,the distributed maintenance algorithm only needs to update a small amount of dynamic information to complete the *** experiments have been conducted to show the scalability and efficiency of the proposed algorithm.

Owing to changes in raw materials, set points, external environment, and other factors. Hot rolling process (HRP) typically has multiple operating conditions. When the operating conditions change, the performance of the fault diagnosis model may deteriorate. Therefore, effective multimode fault diagnosis technology is an effective way to guarantee the safe operation of industrial systems, and it is also a research hotspot and difficulty in fault diagnosis technology. In this paper, we propose a novel fault diagnosis method for multimode HRP by integrating minimal gated unit (MGU) and broad Learning system (BLS). First, MGU is used to extract the dynamic features of process data. Then, the dynamic features are introduced to the BLS model for fault classification. A case study on the multimode HRP illustrates that the proposed method achieves superior fault diagnosis performance compared to traditional MGU and BLS. © 2024 IEEE.
