Index recommendation is essential for improving query performance in database management systems (DBMSs) through creating an optimal set of indexes under specific constraints. Traditional methods, such as heuristic and learning-based approaches, are effective but face challenges like lengthy recommendation time, resource-intensive training, and poor generalization across different workloads and database schemas. To address these issues, we propose LLMIdxAdvis, a resource-efficient index advisor that uses large language models (LLMs) without extensive fine-tuning. LLMIdxAdvis frames index recommendation as a sequence-to-sequence task, taking target workload, storage constraint, and corresponding database environment as input, and directly outputting recommended indexes. It constructs a high-quality demonstration pool offline, using GPT-4-Turbo to synthesize diverse SQL queries and applying integrated heuristic methods to collect both default and refined labels. During recommendation, these demonstrations are ranked to inject database expertise via in-context learning. Additionally, LLMIdxAdvis extracts workload features involving specific column statistical information to strengthen LLM’s understanding, and introduces a novel inference scaling strategy combining vertical scaling (via "Index-Guided Major Voting" and Best-of-N) and horizontal scaling (through iterative "self-optimization" with database feedback) to enhance reliability. Experiments on 3 OLAP and 2 real-world benchmarks reveal that LLMIdxAdvis delivers competitive index recommendation with reduced runtime, and generalizes effectively across different workloads and database schemas. RGB-D rail surface defect inspection (RSDI) is a critical measure for ensuring transportation safety. It improves inspection accuracy by using depth maps, but the issue of poor-quality depth maps in rail defect datasets is often overlooked. Additionally, the similarity between the foreground and the background has always been a persistent challenge in RGB-D RSDI. In this article, we propose a novel network, termed DiffRSDI to overcome these challenges in RGB-D RSDI, which treats RGB-D RSDI as a mask generation task using a conditional diffusion architecture. Specifically, DiffRSDI consists of two key components: a cross-modal cyclic enhancement (CCE) module and a frequency-aware alternate fusion (FAF) module. The CCE module is based on the cyclic enhancement approach and aims to eliminate interference from poor-quality depth maps and aggregate cross-modal features. The FAF module overcomes the similarity between the foreground and the background in the frequency domain and achieves cross-scale fusion in the fused features. Comprehensive experiments conducted on the NEU RSDDS-AUG dataset confirm that our method achieves superior performance in comparison to 14 related methods. © 2001-2012 IEEE.

A numerical magnitude aware multi-channel hierarchical encoding network for math word problem solving

Math word problem (MWP) represents a critical research area within reading comprehension, where accurate comprehension of math problem text is crucial for generating math expressions. However, current approaches still grapple with unresolved challenges in grasping the sensitivity of math problem text and delineating distinct roles across various clause types, and enhancing numerical representation. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a Numerical Magnitude Aware Multi-Channel Hierarchical Encoding Network (NMA-MHEA) for math expression generation. Firstly, NMA-MHEA implements a multi-channel hierarchical context encoding module to learn context representations at three different channels: intra-clause channel, inter-clause channel, and context-question interaction channel. NMA-MHEA constructs hierarchical constituent-dependency graphs for different levels of sentences and employs a Hierarchical Graph Attention Neural Network (HGAT) to learn syntactic and semantic information within these graphs at the intra-clause and inter-clause channels. NMA-MHEA then refines context clauses using question information at the context-question interaction channel. Secondly, NMA-MHEA designs a number encoding module to enhance the relative magnitude information among numerical values and type information of numerical values. Experimental results on two public benchmark datasets demonstrate that NMA-MHEA outperforms other state-of-the-art models. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

Magnesium alloys have gained extensive applications across various industries,including aerospace,transportation,and civil construction,owing to their excellent combinations of high specific strength and stiffness[1].However,their lim-ited strength due to the lack of effective strengthening phases has hindered their broader industrial applications[2].Never-theless,it has been challenging to achieve significant strength-ening due to the restricted solubility of alloying elements in magnesium[3].Thus,more and more efforts have been made to explore the concept of secondary phase-reinforced magne-sium alloys[2,4,5],where the secondary phase acts as re-inforcing agents within the magnesium matrix,resembling a composite material.

OmniSQL: Synthesizing High-quality Text-to-SQL data at Scale

Text-to-SQL, the task of translating natural language questions into SQL queries, plays a crucial role in enabling non-experts to interact with databases. While recent advancements in large language models (LLMs) have significantly enhanced text-to-SQL performance, existing approaches face notable limitations in real-world text-to-SQL applications. Prompting-based methods often depend on closed-source LLMs, which are expensive, raise privacy concerns, and lack customization. Fine-tuning-based methods, on the other hand, suffer from poor generalizability due to the limited coverage of publicly available training data. To overcome these challenges, we propose a novel and scalable text-to-SQL data synthesis framework for automatically synthesizing large-scale, high-quality, and diverse datasets without extensive human intervention. Using this framework, we introduce SynSQL-2.5M, the first million-scale text-to-SQL dataset, containing 2.5 million samples spanning over 16,000 synthetic databases. Each sample includes a database, SQL query, natural language question, and chain-of-thought (CoT) solution. Leveraging SynSQL-2.5M, we develop OmniSQL, a powerful open-source text-to-SQL model available in three sizes: 7B, 14B, and 32B. Extensive evaluations across nine datasets demonstrate that OmniSQL achieves state-of-the-art performance, matching or surpassing leading closed-source and open-source LLMs, including GPT-4o and DeepSeek-V3, despite its smaller size. CASSNet: Cross-Attention Enhanced Spectral–Spatial Interaction Network for Hyperspectral Image Super-Resolution

Deep-learning-based super-resolution (SR) methods for a single hyperspectral image have made significant progress in recent years and become an important research direction in remote sensing. Existing methods perform well in extracting spatial features, but challenges remain in integrating spectral and spatial features when modeling global relationships. In order to take full advantage of the higher spectral resolution of hyperspectral images, this article proposes a novel hyperspectral image SR method (CASSNet), which integrates convolutional neural networks and cross-attention mechanisms into a unified framework. This approach achieves comprehensive integration of spectral and spatial information, with extensive exploration at both local and global levels. In the local feature extraction stage, parallel 3-D/2-D convolutions work in tandem to efficiently capture detail information from both spectral and spatial dimensions. In addition, a spectral–spatial dual-branch module employing the cross-attention mechanism is designed to capture the global dependencies within the features, where the reconstructed spectral–spatial module and the spectral–spatial interaction unit can effectively promote the interaction and complementarity of spectral–spatial features. The experiments on three publicly available datasets demonstrated that the proposed method obtained superior SR results, outperforming state-of-the-art SR algorithms. © 2008-2012 IEEE.

Privacy-Preserving Fingerprint Recognition via Federated Adaptive Domain Generalization
