Calculation of Combustion Products by the New Iteration Method of Non-linear Equations

For a specific combustion problem involving calculations of several species at the equilibrium state, it is simpler to write a general computer program and calculate the combustion concentration. Original work describes, an adaptation of Newton-Raphson method was used for solving the highly nonlinear system of equations describing the formation of equilibrium products in reacting of fuel-additive-air mixtures. This study also shows what possible of the results. In this paper, to be present the efficient numerical algorithms for. solving the combustion problem, to be used nonlinear equations based on the iteration method and high order of the Taylor series. The modified Adomian decomposition method was applied to construct the numerical algorithms. Some numerical illustrations are given to show the efficiency of algorithms. Comparisons of results by the new Matlab routines and previous routines, the result data indicate that the new Matlab routines are reliable, typical deviations from previous results are less than 0.05%.

Listwise approaches based on feature ranking discovery

Listwise approaches are an important class of learning to rank, which utilizes automatic learning techniques to discover useful information. Most previous research on listwise approaches has focused on optimizing ranking models using weights and has used imprecisely labeled training data; optimizing ranking models using features was largely ignored thus the continuous performance improvement of these approaches was hindered. To address the limitations of previous listwise work, we propose a quasi-KNN model to discover the ranking of features and employ rank addition rule to calculate the weight of combination. On the basis of this, we propose three listwise algorithms, FeatureRank, BL-FeatureRank, and DiffRank. The experimental results show that our proposed algorithms can be applied to a strict ordered ranking training set and gain better performance than state-of-the-art listwise algorithms.

One of the main causes for the growing demand for satellites controllers and control centers is the increase number of satellites launched from our planet. Some of these needs are supplied by new controllers, but it will soon be a time on which this kind of monitoring will be overtaken by the growing number of satellites to control, without an auto-generated plan process. In this real scenario, it is important to have, before thinking of implementing a planner or even before create a Knowledge Base equipped with meta-models, a development process divided in very well defined steps. Each of these steps must have a target objective to reach and one or more than one software artifacts to generate, using for this techniques in fields like the knowledge acquisition and tools for successful software design, such as the Unified Modeling Language (UML), one of the most significant modeling tool used in commercial systems. A development process for an automatically generated plan, based on the satellite components status, the ground positions stations and its orbit frequency, must be used as soon as possible, in order to grant our capability to safely control all of our satellites. This paper object is to show in full detail the PRODESEA, an auto-generated plan development process useful when a satellite control planning is needed to reach the above goals. For didactic purpose, this paper also illustrates one case study in a satellites control domain. © 2012 by Winandy, Charles-Edouard.

The Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) is a major issue for the truck crane designing, due to the large dimension. The conducted disturbance sources of truck crane was measured under stable conditions, the time domain characteristics of possible conducted disturbance sources was analyzed, and typical waveforms were concluded to solve the EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) issue. The electromagnetic disturbance characteristics at different test points under different operation conditions were compared, and the influence of different factors was studied. The amplitude and frequency parameters of the major disturbance sources were compared with the standard immunity test pulses suggested by ISO7637-2. The differences between them indicate that the extant standard might not apply to the test of the truck crane. The presented results could form a basis for the development of a special standard for the EMC test of the truck crane and further relevant EMC research. © 2012 IEEE.

Recently several multi-frequency imaging techniques have been proposed that have opened up a multitude of information channels to probe surface properties in atomic force microscopy (AFM). However, the dynamics involved are significantly more complicated than in the traditional AFM modes, and hence quantitative multi-frequency AFM (MF- AFM) remains a key challenge. In this paper, we introduce custom-made micro-cantilevers with integrated actuators and a systems-theoretic modeling framework for MF-AFM, which together provide powerful experimental and theoretical tools for quantitative measurement of tip-sample interaction forces and sample properties.

This paper presents an online adaptive optimal control algorithm based on policy iteration reinforcement learning techniques to solve the continuous-time Stackelberg games with infinite horizon for linear systems. This adaptive optimal control method finds in real-time approximations of the optimal value and the Stackelberg-equilibrium solution, while also guaranteeing closed-loop stability. The optimal-adaptive algorithm is implemented as a separate actor/critic parametric network approximator structure for every player, and involves simultaneous continuous-time adaptation of the actor/critic networks. Novel tuning algorithms are given for the actor/critic networks. The convergence to the closed-loop Stackelberg equilibrium is proven and stability of the system is also guaranteed. A simulation example shows the effectiveness of the new online algorithm.

In this paper we introduce an online algorithm that uses integral reinforcement knowledge for learning the continuous-time Nash game (zero-sum and non-zero-sum) solution for nonlinear systems with infinite horizon costs and partial knowledge of the system dynamics. This algorithm is a data based approach to the solution of the coupled Hamilton-Jacobi equations and it does not require explicit knowledge on the system's drift dynamics. A novel adaptive control algorithm is given that is based on policy iteration and implemented using an actor/critic structure for every player in the game having 2N adaptive approximator structures. All 2N approximation networks are adapted simultaneously. Novel adaptive control tuning algorithms are given for the critic and actor networks. The convergence to the Nash solution of the game is proven, and stability of the system is also guaranteed. Simulation examples support the theoretical result.

Active control of Free Paraboloidal Membrane Shells Using Photostrictive Actuators

The paraboloidal membrane shell with free boundary condition is actively controlled using photostrictive actuators which can provide contactless actuation under the illumination of ultraviolet light. The governing equations of the paraboloidal shell laminated with paired photostrictive actuators are established based on membrane approximation. The modal control actions of meridional/circumferential actuators are respectively formulated and evaluated by case studies. Constant light intensity related to the velocity of the shell is adopted, and then the governing equations are written in a closed-loop form which can be solved with Newmark-β method. Considering the multi-field coupling behavior of photostrictive actuators, time histories of transverse displacement and control light intensity are simulated and evaluated. The results show that photostrictive actuators can effectively control the vibration of the paraboloidal membrane shell, and the photostrictive actuators oriented along circumferential direction can give better control effect than photostrictive actuators placed along the meridional direction.

This work introduces design, fabrication and characterization of an optical based integrated flow rate sensor where the light- fluid interaction is maximized by allowing the liquid and light to propagate along the same direction. This is achieved by placing a 10 μm deep channel between two waveguides. The optical waveguides are tapered down to the channel width to feed the light in and out, where tapering is done to minimize the coupling and propagation loss. The output signal is detected by a fast receiver (higher than 1MHz) that records the dynamic change of the light intensity when fluid flows through the channel. The initial results showed a dynamic range of measurement up to 0.18.
