He is engaged mainly in developing technology for construction planning as well as protection stabilization and automatic control of power systems. He is currently a Director and Vice President of the company. He received an OHM Technology Award in 1971 and an Achievement Award from the I.E.E. Japan in 1992. Graduated in 1962 from the Department of Electrical Engineering Shibaura Institute of Technology and joined Chubu Electric Power Co. in the same year. He is engaged in the development of technology for large-scale centralized control of power systems as well as the networking of control computers. He is currently a System Analysis Group Chief in the System Operation Division of the company. Graduated in 1985 from the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering Tokyo Institute of Technology and joined Chubu Electric Power Co. in the same year. He is engaged mainly in the development of technology for power system protection and stabilization. He is currently working in the System Analysis Group of the System Operation Division of the company. Toshiba Corporation Graduated in 1967 from the Department of Electrical Engineering University of Tokyo and joined Toshiba Corporation in the same year and engaged in development of power system control systems in Japan and abroad. He is currently a Chief of System Technology in the Power System Technology Division of the company. He is a member of the Theses Subcommittee of the 1995 World Energy Conference. He is an Assistant Secretary of the Japanese Committee of CIGRE and a member of the Japanese Subcommittee of CIGRE SC35 and 39. He is a member of IEEE. He is an active researcher in the field of machine condition monitoring and fault diagnosis in collaboration with industrial partners. He is also involved in the application of artificial intelligence techniques within manufacturing. He is a Chartered Engineer and a member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers. July 1994 saw the publication of a book entitledCondition Based Maintenance and Machine Diagnosticsof which he was co-author. Alun Jennings:has a B.Sc. in mechanical engineering from Portsmouth Polytechnic and an M.Sc. from Manchester University. He is a chartered mechanical engineer with experience in fault diagnosis and product development. Currently he is employed as a research associate at Laser Zentrum Hannover. Roger Grosvenor:is an IT lecturer in Systems Engineering at the Cardiff School of Engineering within the University of Wales Cardiff. His teaching covers reliability engineering instrumentation and measurement and digital control. His main research interests are in-process measurement on machine tools and condition monitoring of machine tools. Japan in 1971. He is a member of the Japan Society for Simulation Technology. Master's degree in 1985 from the Engineering Research Division Kyushu University. He received his Ph.D. degree later. He became a Research Associate in the Department of Electrical Engineering Yamaguchi University in April 1985. He has been a Research Associate in the Department of Electrical Engineering since March 1993. He is engaged mainly in research and development of linear motors by simulations and experiments. M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electronics engineering from the University of Tokyo Tokyo Japan in 1976 1978 and 1986 respectively. In 1978 he joined Yokosuka Electrical Communication Laboratories IT. During 1978–1984 he was engaged in the research and development of optical fibre transmission technologies. His R&D experiences cover fibre optic video transmission systems for CATV distribution systems and subscriber loop systems. Since 1985 he has been actiie in the development of broadband ISDN based on ATM techniques. His main research interests include information transport network architectures variable network architectures with virtual paths broadband transport technology ATM network performance analysis and photonic networks based on optical paths. He has over 90 research publications in international journal and conferences. He is serving as a member of the Advisory Board of the International Journal of Communication Systems. He is currently a group leader of the Photonic Network Research Group in Optical Network Systems Laboratories at NTT. Dr Sat0 received the Young Engineer Award in 1984 and the Excellent Paper Award in 1991 both from the Institute of Electronics Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE) of JAPAN. Dr Sato is a member of the IEICE of JAPAN and a senior member of the IEEE Communications Society. Atsushi Watanabe received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in Information Science from Ibaraki University in 1989 and 1991 respectively.
