Enablement theory refers to the theoretical framework that describes the interrelationships among different areas of functioning, such as those illustrated by the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF). Enablement theory is necessary to explain causal relationships and predictions of how changes in one aspect of function impact distal outcomes. This is in contrast with treatment theory, which describes how the active ingredient(s) of an intervention directly impact a measurable target. Enablement theory helps clinicians articulate their rehabilitation treatment plans by identifying the underlying targets necessary to achieve a patient's desired outcomes and monitor the response to treatment. In this manner, enablement theory can also support the education of novice and experienced clinicians and/or trainees in their clinical reasoning process. Enablement theory helps researchers articulate the relationships they hypothesize between the aspects of function they seek to change with an intervention and the immediate and distal outcomes of that intervention. researchers can then design the rehabilitation intervention and identify key outcome measures to rigorously test their conceptual framework, including the important mediators of the intervention's effects, and aid in the interpretation of study results. The use of enablement models has not been well-described in the rehabilitation literature, and formal research focused on understanding the nature and strength of the relationships within these enablement models is necessary to advance the field of rehabilitation. We discuss how enablement theory contributes to our understanding of rehabilitation interventions in the context of clinical practice, health professions education, and rehabilitation research.

Background Falls are the most common injury faced by older adults and those with neurodegenerative diseases. Falls can result in concussion/mild traumatic brain injury(mTBI). Concussions in older adults or those with neurodegenerative disease can have a significant impact on behavior as post-concussion symptoms include neuropsychiatric issues. We hypothesized that there is a relationship between past fall and neuropsychiatric symptoms and neuropsychiatric symptom severity. Methods We used data on falls and Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI) from the Ontario Neurodegenerative Disease research Initiative dataset for 480 individuals with neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, frontotemporal dementia and vascular cognitive impairment). We used the Chi-squared and Mann-Whitney tests to compare frequency of NPI symptoms (anxiety, depression, irritability, disinhibition, apathy, delusions, hallucinations, agitation, euphoria, motor-disturbance, night-time behaviour, appetite), and total NPI severity and distress, respectively, between patients with and without falls in the past 12 months. Results Comparing patients with falls (n = 169; mean-age = 68.3±9; 36% F) to patients without falls (n = 311; mean-age = 68.7±7; 32% F), there was a significantly higher frequency of anxiety (Chi-squared test, X 2 (df = 1, N = 480) = 12.859, P-value = 0.0003); higher median anxiety severity (Mann-Whitney/Wilcoxon-test p-value = 0.0002); and higher median partner anxiety distress (Wilcox test p-value = 0.0006) in those who had had a previous fall compared to those who had not, even with multiple comparison correction. Depression, apathy, disinhibition, night-time behaviours, and eating/appetite changes and total NPI severity were significantly worse in those with previous falls but did not survive multiple comparison correction. Autonomous systems are able to make decisions and potentially take actions without direct human intervention, which requires some knowledge about the system and its environment as well as goal-oriented reasoning. In computer systems, one can derive such behavior from the concept of a rational agent with autonomy (“control over its own actions”), reactivity (“react to events from the environment”), proactivity (“act on its own initiative”), and sociality (“interact with other agents”) as fundamental properties \n[1]\n. Autonomous systems will undoubtedly pervade into our everyday lives, and we will find them in a variety of domains and applications including robotics, transportation, health care, communications, and entertainment to name a few. \nThe articles in this month’s special issue cover concepts and fundamentals, architectures and techniques, and applications and case studies in the exciting area of self-awareness in autonomous systems.

Assessment of In-service science Teachers' Teaching Competencies in Integrated STEM program

The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of a professional development instructional program Integrated STEM for elementary schools in a rural context of Thailand which carried out at the Faculty of Education, Buriram Rajabhat University during February 2018. research instruments were (1) assessment observational record consisted of 5 elements of competencies with 4 levels of rubric criteria including beginning, approaching proficient, proficient, and distinguished levels, (2) achievement test related STEM designed to assess specific science content knowledge. The research findings revealed that the integrated STEM program was recommended to use for developing in-service science teachers' teaching competencies. From evaluation of experts, the results indicated that competencies' levels of teaching of in-service science teachers was achieved as approaching proficient level. Moreover, the results of one sample t-test indicated that teachers' achievement score on science content knowledge after implementing the integrated STEM program was significantly higher than before at the 0.01 level. It can be suggested that in-service training programs should be developed and used for science teachers to raise their awareness of the necessity of STEM education and to enhance their competencies in teaching preparation program.

Brian Brooks is Adjunct Associate Professor in the Foundation Art Program and the K-12 Center for Art and Design and Community Engagement Pratt Institute. He is interested in interdisciplinary and cross-cultural education student self-assessment visual thinking and learning and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. Keena Suh is Associate Professor in the Interior Design Program at Pratt Institute and an architect with over 20 years of active professional practice in architecture and interior design in New York City ranging from affordable housing to commercial and high-end residential design. Allegra Marino Shmulevsky is Visiting Instructor and Lecturer in the Intensive English Program Pratt Institute. She teaches English language literature writing and research skills to the international student population. Her interests include pedagogy sociolinguistics visual art and how the three intersect. Chris Wynter is Professor in the Foundation Art Program Pratt Institute and a visual artist working in a variety of media. His practice includes studio work for exhibitions as well as private and public-space commissions working with architects interior designers structural engineers and textile designers.

Teachers hope that students will take what they have learned and apply it to other contexts. Teachers also assume that students bring to the classroom, prior learning skills and conceptual understanding that form the foundation of new learning. Educational scholars call this import to and export from different learning experiences "transfer of learning." Perhaps transfer of learning seems like an obvious goal that any faculty member would--and perhaps should--pursue. After all, should students not utilize what they have learned in courses in their subsequent education, careers, and perhaps personal lives? And yet, many faculty members are unaware of what transfer of learning is. Few faculty members are actually trained in best practices for making learning transferable. That students apply what they have learned in one context to new challenges is often assumed but not always documented in research studies. This suggests the need to design curricula to better foster transfer of learning. For the past three years, the authors have explored how they might use a transfer of learning approach to create a better art and design curriculum for their students. Here they share their experience with looking for ways to maximize the potential for learning transfer, focusing on how they expanded their faculty learning community by fostering faculty conversations about transfer.

The aim of the present work is to provide better attentiveness to the industry management and to facilitate the implementation of manufacturing sustainability. A generic model aspect presents and investigates the correlation for descriptive survey validation of manufacturing sustainability. Which intends to investigate the correlation among benefits, drivers, barriers and triple bottom-lines. The results can provide executive awareness of the current complex relations and to the development of an implementation plan. Thereby it is possible to upgrade the level of a supply supply chain management, production, environmental efficiency and ground work. Furthermore it can lead to strengthen government policy as well as to the development of new manufacturing.

Forbs (“wildflowers”) are important contributors to grassland biodiversity but are vulnerable to environmental changes. In a factorial experiment at 94 sites on 6 continents, we test the global generality of several broad predictions: (1) Forb cover and richness decline under nutrient enrichment, particularly nitrogen enrichment. (2) Forb cover and richness increase under herbivory by large mammals. (3) Forb richness and cover are less affected by nutrient enrichment and herbivory in more arid climates, because water limitation reduces the impacts of competition with grasses. (4) Forb families will respond differently to nutrient enrichment and mammalian herbivory due to differences in nutrient requirements. We find strong evidence for the first, partial support for the second, no support for the third, and support for the fourth prediction. Our results underscore that anthropogenic nitrogen addition is a major threat to grassland forbs, but grazing under high herbivore intensity can offset these nutrient effects. © The Author(s) 2025.

National Center for Scientific and Technological Research Rabat and President of the Moroccan Society for Telemedicine and eHealth Rabat Morocco

During the 2018 IMIA General Assembly (GA) held on Oct 2018 in Sri Lanka, a new organization, the Middle East and North African Health Informatics Association (MENAHIA) was established as a regional non-governmental organization to promote Health Informatics in the region. Health Informatics activities in applications, education, and research have been growing in the Middle East and North African region for many years. Over the past year, health informatics initiatives within the region focused on the education sector and the workforce. The need to enhance the education delivery and methods is essential in promoting Health Informatics in the region as well as establishing master programs in many countries within the region. This paper provides an overview of the variety of initiatives that are occurring in the region and are endorsed by MENAHIA.
