HARQ-IR Aided Short Packet Communications: BLER Analysis and Throughput Maximization

This paper introduces hybrid automatic repeat request with incremental redundancy (HARQ-IR) to boost the reliability of short packet communications. The finite blocklength information theory and correlated decoding events tremendously preclude the analysis of average block error rate (BLER). Fortunately, the recursive form of average BLER motivates us to calculate its value through the trapezoidal approximation and Gauss–Laguerre quadrature. Moreover, the asymptotic analysis is performed to derive a simple expression for the average BLER at high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Then, we study the maximization of long term average throughput (LTAT) via power allocation meanwhile ensuring the power and the BLER constraints. For tractability, the asymptotic BLER is employed to solve the problem through geometric programming (GP). However, the GP-based solution underestimates the LTAT at low SNR due to a large approximation error in this case. Alternatively, we also develop a deep reinforcement learning (DRL)based framework to learn power allocation policy. In particular, the optimization problem is transformed into a constrained Markov decision process, which is solved by integrating deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG) with subgradient method. The numerical results finally demonstrate that the DRL-based method outperforms the GP-based one at low SNR, albeit at the cost of increasing computational burden. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. It is critical to perceive physical contact for intelligent robots to safely interact in dynamic, unstructured environments. As physical contacts can occur at any location, a well-performing tactile sensing system should be able to deploy a large area on robotic surface. Some researchers have implemented large-area tactile sensors by using sensing arrays, but it is challenging to deploy many sensing elements. Electrical resistance tomography (ERT) has recently been introduced into tactile sensing to overcome some of the limitations with conventional tactile sensing arrays, and good results have been achieved for some robotic applications. However, a particular challenge is that spatial resolution is low. Although various attempts have been made to improve the performance of ERT-based tactile sensors, the intrinsic resolution issue remains unsolved. In this paper, we propose a novel adaptive optimal drive strategy for efficient ERT-based large-area tactile sensing for robotic applications, which can adaptively select the current injection and voltage measurement pattern for optimal tactile stimulus. In particular, regions of tactile contacts are preliminarily detected and localized by a base scanning pattern with only a few measurement data. According to this detected region, the adaptive strategy can select the optimal current injection and voltage measurement pattern to improve the sensing performance by maximizing the current density. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed strategy, the proposed method is comprehensively evaluated by simulation and experiments. The results revealed that the optimal strategy can effectively improve both spatial and temporal resolution.

A railroad technical operation station is an extensive and complex operation system and a variety of random disturbing factors further increase the complexity of its command and dispatching. To enhance the railroad technical operation stations' intelligence, and integration level, and enhance its dispatching management ability of complex operation plans, based on the ACP approach, this paper designs the parallel dispatching system (PDS) architecture, and describes its key technologies including the artificial dispatching system (ADS), computing experiments, parallel execution, etc. On the basis of the artificial dispatching system, computational experiments can optimize various types of technical operations and the overall operational process, to achieve parallel execution between the actual dispatching system and ADS. PDS can provide more efficient and intelligent command and dispatching solutions for railroad technical work stations, and promote the development of the railroad transportation industry in the direction of higher quality and efficiency.

There exist some obstacles to realize high-precision positioning with using the position differential technique due to the limiting factors. However, with the advancement of chip performance and the establishment of multiple satellite navigation systems, position differential positioning can be realized to meet the civilian high-precision positioning demand while significantly reducing costs. This paper is to explore the engineering application and propose a new method. Through the experiments and data analysis, we have found the error correlation between two receivers in a small area and designed a set of positioning system, and programmed in the Keil μVision5 in C language. The system consists of the current mainstream low-cost STM32, UBLOX NEO 6M chip, NRF24L01 chip, GPS antenna and power supply module. Each two receivers can form a differential positioning system. At present, the system in the low-speed status is, in the urban environment, basically reaching within 0.5 - 3 m of the positioning error.

With the rapid development of the satellite industry, the information transmission network based on communication satellites has gradually become a major and important part of the future satellite ground integration network. However, the low transmission efficiency of the satellite data relay back mission has become a problem that is currently constraining the construction of the system and needs to be solved urgently. Effectively planning the task of satellite ground networking by reasonably scheduling resources is crucial for the efficient transmission of task data. In this paper, we hope to provide a task execution scheme that maximizes the profit of the networking task for satellite ground network planning considering feeding mode (SGNPFM). To solve the SGNPFM problem, a mixed-integer planning model with the objective of maximizing the gain of the link-building task is constructed, which considers various constraints of the satellite in the feed-switching mode. Based on the problem characteristics, we propose a distance similarity-based genetic optimization algorithm (DSGA), which considers the state characteristics between the tasks and introduces a weighted Euclidean distance method to determine the similarity between the tasks. To obtain more high-quality solutions, different similarity evaluation methods are designed to assist the algorithm in intelligently screening individuals. The DSGAalso uses an adaptive crossover strategy based on similarity mechanism, which guides the algorithm to achieve efficient population search. In addition, a task scheduling algorithm considering the feed-switching mode is designed for decoding the algorithm to generate a highquality scheme. The results of simulation experiments show that the DSGA can effectively solve the SGNPFM problem. How can we find a general way to choose the most suitable samples for training a classifier? Even with very limited prior information? Active learning, which can be regarded as an iterative optimization procedure, plays a key role to construct a refined training set to improve the classification performance in a variety of applications, such as text analysis, image recognition, social network modeling, etc. Although combining representativeness and informativeness of samples has been proven promising for active sampling, state-of-the-art methods perform well under certain data structures. Then can we find a way to fuse the two active sampling criteria without any assumption on data? This paper proposes a general active learning framework that effectively fuses the two criteria. Inspired by a two-sample discrepancy problem, triple measures are elaborately designed to guarantee that the query samples not only possess the representativeness of the unlabeled data but also reveal the diversity of the labeled data. Any appropriate similarity measure can be employed to construct the triple measures. Meanwhile, an uncertain measure is leveraged to generate the informativeness criterion, which can be carried out in different ways. Rooted in this framework, a practical active learning algorithm is proposed, which exploits a radial basis function together with the estimated probabilities to construct the triple measures and a modified Best-versus-Second-Best strategy to construct the uncertain measure, respectively. Experimental results on benchmark datasets demonstrate that our algorithm consistently achieves superior performance over the state-of-the-art active learning algorithms. Federated learning (FL) has been widely used for privacy-preserving model updates in Industry 5.0, facilitated by 6G networks. Despite FL's privacy-preserving advantages, it remains vulnerable to attacks where adversaries can infer private data from local models or manipulate the central server (CS) to deliver falsified global models. Current privacy-preserving approaches, primarily based on the FedAvg algorithm, fail to optimize training efficiency for non-independent and identically distributed (non-IID) data. This article proposes training-efficient and verifiable aggregation (TEVA) for FL to resolve these issues. This scheme combines threshold Paillier homomorphic encryption (TPHE), verifiable aggregation, and an optimized double momentum update mechanism (OdMum). TEVA not only leverages TPHE to protect the privacy of local models but also ensures the integrity of the global model through a verifiable aggregation mechanism. Additionally, TEVA integrates the OdMum algorithm to effectively address the challenges posed by non-IID data, promoting rapid model convergence and significantly enhancing overall training efficiency. Security analysis indicates that TEVA meets the requirements for privacy protection. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that TEVA can accelerate model convergence while incurring lower computational and communication overheads. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

Imagined speech production with electrocorticography (ECoG) plays a crucial role in brain-computer interface system. A challenging issue is the great variation underlying the frequency bands of the ECoG signals’ encode information, which makes current methods difficult to generate imagined speech with stable quality among different persons. To this end, we propose a robust model to generate high-quality imagined speech from ECoG. A frequency enhancement branch is first designed to adaptively modulate the frequency information, whose product is fed into the following multi-scale channel attention module for robust feature extraction and fusion. By incorporating both the mel-spectrum and audio as training constraints, a multi-constraint decoder branch is finally constructed for imagined speech production. The performance of our model is evaluated on a high-quality dateset, i.e, Single Word Production Dutch-iBIDS. It yields Pearson correlation scores that are all above 0.8, and the standard deviationsare are all below 0.2 in different volunteers. Experimental results demonstrate that our model is effective and robust for ECoG based imagined speech production, and has advantages over peer methods.
