While lexicalized reordering models have been widely used in phrase-based translation systems, they suffer from three drawbacks: context insensitivity, ambiguity, and sparsity. We propose a neural reordering model that conditions reordering probabilities on the words of both the current and previous phrase pairs. Including the words of previous phrase pairs significantly improves context sensitivity and reduces reordering ambiguity. To alleviate the data sparsity problem, we build one classifier for all phrase pairs, which are represented as continuous space vectors. Experiments on the NIST Chinese-English datasets show that our neural reordering model achieves significant improvements over state-of-the-art lexicalized reordering models.

Translation retrieval aims to find the most likely translation among a set of target-language strings for a given source-language string. Previous studies consider the single-best translation as a query for information retrieval, which may result in translation error propagation. To alleviate this problem, we propose to use the query lattice, which is a compact representation of exponentially many queries containing translation alternatives. We verified the effectiveness of query lattice through experiments, where our method explores a much larger search space (from 1 query to 1.24 × 1062 queries), runs much faster (from 0.75 to 0.13 second per sentence), and retrieves more accurately (from 83.76% to 93.16% in precision) than the standard method based on the query single-best. In addition, we show that query lattice significantly outperforms the method of (Munteanu and Marcu, 2005) on the task of parallel sentence mining from comparable corpora.

Vehicle detection is a foundational and significant task in video surveillance systems. In this paper, a vehicle detection method using a deformable model and symmetry is proposed. First, we learn the active basis model (ABM) from the target training sample set by using the shared sketch algorithm. Then, we utilize the edge information obtained by ABM and HSV color information to do symmetry analysis for vehicle objects. The ABM can detect vehicles in various poses, shapes, and sizes for its deformability. By doing edge and color symmetry analysis, subtle difference between two images and environment noises can be adapted. The results of experiments indicate that our approach is capable of detection different vehicles and localization vehicle in bad environment. What's important, the detection results support the capability of the proposed method to enable the introduction of novel intelligent transportation systems applications. © 2013 IEEE.

Electron tomography (ET) is a powerful technology allowing the three-dimensional (3D) imaging of cellular ultrastructure. These structures are reconstructed from a set of micrographs taken at different sample orientations, the final volume being the solution of a general inverse problem. Two different approaches are used in this context: iterative methods and filtered backprojection. Iterative methods are known to provide high-resolution 3D reconstructions for ET under noisy and incomplete data conditions. However, all previous implementations have been restricted to the straight-line projection models. This is not accurate since electron trajectories in electron microscopes do not follow the straight-line optics assumed for X-rays, and biological samples may warp as a result of being exposed to an electron beam. Compensation for curvilinear trajectories, nonlinear electron optics, and sample warping constitutes a major advance in large-field ET and has made possible resolution down to the molecular level in reconstructions of whole cells. At present these advances are limited to filtered backprojection and have been implemented in the software package TxBR. As the next step in this development, we have modified the ASART method in conjunction with a 3D model. By employing alignment based on general curvilinear trajectories we have been able to show that further improvements can be achieved with iterative methods. We also discuss a unified treatment of the alignment and reconstruction problems within the framework of iterative methods, and the relationship between formulas employed in the update step and cross-validation methods. Leakage-resilient public key encryption (PKE) schemes are designed to resist "memory attacks", i.e., the adversary recovers the cryptographic key in the memory adaptively, but subject to constraint that the total amount of leaked information about the key is bounded by some parameter λ. Among all the IND-CCA2 leakage-resilient PKE proposals, the leakage-resilient version of the Cramer-Shoup cryptosystem (CS-PKE), referred to as the KL-CS-PKE scheme proposed by Naor and Segev in Crypto09, is the most practical one. But, the key leakage parameter λ and plaintext length m of KL-CS-PKE are subject to λ + m ≤ log q - ω(log κ), where κ is security parameter and q is the prime order of the group on which the scheme is based. Such a dependence between λ and m is undesirable. For example, when λ (resp., m) approaches to log q, m (resp., λ) approaches to 0. In this paper, we designed a new variant of CS-PKE that is resilient to key leakage chosen ciphertext attacks. Our proposal is λ ≤ log q - ω(log κ) leakage-resilient, and the leakage parameter λ is independent of the plaintext space that has the constant size q (exactly the same as that in CS-PKE). The performance of our proposal is almost as efficient as the original CS-PKE. As far as we know, this is the first leakage-resilient CS-type cryptosystem whose plaintext length is independent of the key leakage parameter, and is also the most efficient IND-CCA2 PKE scheme resilient to up to log q - ω(log κ) leakage. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Social media is widely utilized in the tobacco control campaigns. It is a great challenge to evaluate the efficiency of tobacco control policies on social network sites and find gaps among tobacco-oriented social networks. In this paper, we construct three tobacco-oriented social networks according to user interaction on Facebook tobacco-related fan pages. We further investigate the interaction patterns including temporal distribution and interaction patterns to reveal the differences of tobacco-oriented social networks. Our empirical analysis demonstrates that: 1) the user interaction on the pro-tobacco fan pages is more active. Fan pages for tobacco promotion are more successful in obtaining more user attention. 2) The gap between tobacco promotion and tobacco control is widening. These empirical results can provide us significant insights into understanding the evolutionary patterns of social interaction in tobacco-oriented social networks and further help the government departments of tobacco control to make reasonable decisions. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Modern power system is a typical multi-level complex giant system consisting of physical infrastructures, human operators, and social resources, etc. The conventional analytical methods and simulation systems can't provide sufficient guidance for its operation and management, because they are mainly based on physical models, natural phenomenon, or other existing control methods which are based on reductionism. ACP approach, mainly consisting of artificial systems (A), computational experiments (C) and parallel execution (P), which is based on holism and complex system theory, has its specific advantages in the research on power systems. In this article, ACP approach is applied to build up artificial power system (APS) by using multi-agent complex networks. With the help of APS, actual power system's control, scheduling, optimization and management can be improved further via providing theoretical guidance and technical support for the rolling optimizations in normal situations and emergency management in abnormal situations. As a case study, an APS constructed with actual data from North China power grid is constructed and its vulnerability is simulated and analyzed under random, dynamic and static attacks. © 2012 IEEE.

Traffic signal coordination has long been a hot topic in intelligent Transportation systems (ITS) research. Simulation-based optimization is an important method to optimize the coordination designs as the traffic systems are not easily described by mathematical models accurately. For the traffic simulator in the method, micro-simulation is becoming more and more popular than the macroscopic or mesoscopic simulation in recent years, as the micro-simulation can describe drivers' decision-making process and their driving behaviors in the framework of ITS. However, the computing burden for the micro-simulation is usually very heavy as a large number of vehicles are modeled and simulated separately. For the optimizer in the method, iterative algorithms such as Genetic Algorithms (GA), Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) are widely used to find the global optimal solutions. However, these algorithms usually take too much time to converge when a large-scale road network is encountered. To alleviate the computing burden and speed up the convergence, we build an agent-based traffic simulator and employ Ordinal Optimization (OO) as the optimizer. We accelerate both the simulator and the optimizer with Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), which has been applied successfully in many areas for parallel computing. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the OO method and the power of GPU for parallel computing. © 2012 IEEE.

Traffic micro-simulation is an important tool in the intelligent Transportation systems (ITS) research. In the micro-simulation, a bottom up system can be built up by the interactions of vehicle agents, road agents, traffic lights agents, etc. The Artificial societies, Computational experiments, and Parallel execution (ACP) approach suggests integrating other metropolitan systems such as logistic, infrastructure, legal and regulatory, weather and environmental systems to build an Artificial Transportation System (ATS) to help solve ITS problems. This is reasonable as the transportation system is complex that is affected by many systems interacting with each other. However, there is a challenge that the computing burden can be very heavy as there can be many agents of different kinds interacting in parallel in ATS. In recent years, the Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) have been applied successfully in many areas for parallel computing. Compared with the traditional CPU cluster, GPU has an obvious advantage of low cost of hardware and electricity consumption. In this paper, we build a parallel traffic simulation module of ATS with GPU. The simulation results are reasonable and a maximum speedup factor of 105 is obtained compared with the CPU implementations. © 2012 IEEE.
