Einstein-Yang-Mills Regular Black Holes in Rainbow Gravity

In this work, we investigate regular black hole solutions in nonminimal Einstein-Yang-Mills theory modified by Rainbow Gravity, focusing on the impact of quantum gravity effects on their thermodynamics, particle emission, energy conditions, curvature, and shadow formation. We find that the rainbow parameter λ alters Hawking’s temperature, entropy, and specific heat, leading to modified phase transitions and the possible formation of remnants. We calculate the graybody factor demonstrating that particle emission is enhanced with increasing λ, reflecting the behavior of the temperature and confirming the impact of the rainbow parameter on the evaporation process. Energy conditions are violated inside the black hole, with violations intensifying for larger λ. We also show that Rainbow Gravity mitigates singularity formation by softening the curvature near the origin, contributing to the regularity of the solution. Finally, we study the black hole shadow and demonstrate that its radius decreases as quantum gravity effects strengthen, suggesting potential observational tests for Rainbow Gravity. These results highlight the role of Rainbow Gravity in modifying black hole physics and provides a framework for exploring quantum gravitational corrections in astrophysical scenarios. © 2025, CC BY.

Flame spray pyrolysis (FSP) was employed to synthesize Ti-modified SiO₂ in a single step, serving as the support for Ru-based catalysts in CO₂ methanation reactions. The addition of Ti led to the formation of anatase and rutile TiO₂ phases, enhancing the catalytic activity of Ru/Ti-SiO₂ catalysts. Benchmarking between Ru/Ti-SiO₂ catalysts of various Ti concentrations prepared using one-step FSP techniques indicated significantly higher catalytic activity for the impregnation-made catalysts compared to the FSP-made ones, where diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) revealed different CH₄ formation mechanisms between two techniques. For FSP-made catalysts, it predominantly occurred through the CO route, whereas the impregnation-made proceed via both the dissociative adsorption of CO₂ (CO route) and through surface formate species formation. To explain the effect of Ti loading on Ru/SiO₂ catalysts, a multiscale analysis combining density functional theory (DFT) and microkinetic modeling was performed to study the adsorption behavior of CO₂ on different catalysts. The results revealed that a high amount of Ti reduced the adsorption strength of CO₂ on Ru/SiO₂ catalysts, indicating a modified interaction between CO₂ and the catalyst surface. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Understanding how dimethyl sulfide (DMS) breaks down to form value-added products such as methanol on transition metal oxide catalysts is important for improving desulfurization processes. In this study, the reaction mechanism over a tungsten oxide cluster (W₃O₆) is elucidated using density functional theory (DFT) at the M06-L/LANL2DZ/aug-cc-pVTZ level of theory. Two competing mechanistic pathways were discovered over the W₃O₆ cluster: Pathway A) direct demethylation followed by methanol desorption and Pathway B) a water-assisted concerted demethylation pathway. Pathway A involves sequential steps with a moderate demethylation barrier (49.43 kcal/mol), but a significantly higher barrier (68.78 kcal/mol) for subsequent methanol formation, imposing a kinetic bottleneck. Remarkably, Pathway B, mediated by an explicit water molecule, facilitates a lower-barrier concerted transformation (56.19 kcal/mol), effectively bypassing the high-energy intermediate. Kinetic modeling via Transition State Theory and the Energetic Span Model reveal that despite the very low turnover frequency (TOF = 9.29 × 10−30 s⁻¹), the water-assisted pathway is energetically superior. These findings highlight the important role of water in helping the reaction proceed and offer insight for designing better catalysts for sulfur removal from DMS to methanol over the W₃O₆ cluster. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

We present an ecofriendly synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using the husk extract of Nypa fruticans, a largely unexploited biowaste, for effective colorimetric detection of heavy metal ions in aqueous solutions. Our one-step synthesis produces well-dispersed, highly stable AgNPs with an average size of ∼4 nm, as determined by transmission electron microscopy. The compounds in the extract act as both reducing and stabilizing agents, facilitating self-controlled nucleation and growth, as supported by molecular simulations. The synthesized AgNPs were further characterized using UV–visible spectroscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and zeta potential measurements. Under optimized conditions, the AgNPs exhibit high selectivity toward Fe2+ ions, producing a distinct dark brown color that can be observed by the naked eye, while showing almost no response to other tested heavy metal ions. The calibration curve for the Fe2+ detection showed excellent linearity (r2 = 0.9959) with a detection limit of 0.24 ppm. Additionally, the AgNPs demonstrated excellent (> 94 %) Fe2+ recovery in real water samples. Through quantum chemical calculations and molecular dynamics simulations, we provided atomic-level insights into the mechanisms of Fe2+ detection. This present work thus highlights the potential of biomass extracts for green nanomaterial synthesis and environmental applications. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Dengue virus (DENV) infection remains a major global health threat. Its incidence is increasing, with frequent outbreaks affecting millions of people each year. Although vaccines are available, their limited effectiveness and the absence of targeted antiviral therapies highlight the critical need for alternative treatment approaches. In this study, we investigated the antiviral activity of bidebiline A and heteropsine, two dimeric aporphine alkaloids isolated from Trivalvaria costata , against DENV-infected Huh7 liver cells. Our findings reveal that heteropsine inhibits DENV production and infection in Huh7 cells more effectively than bidebiline A. Heteropsine also exerts antiviral activity in endothelial and lung cell lines. Mechanistic studies, including time-of-addition assays and molecular docking, elucidate that heteropsine targets early steps during cellular infection, possibly by binding to domain III of the dengue virus envelope protein (EDIII). Viral binding and internalization assays confirmed that heteropsine disrupts viral entry. Furthermore, heteropsine suppresses DENV-induced immunopathogenesis by downregulating the expression of cytokine/chemokine genes ( TNF-α , IL-6 , RANTES , and IP-10 ) and attenuating nuclear translocation of the p65 subunit of the nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-κB) transcription factor. These findings highlight the importance of heteropsine as a promising antiviral candidate with the potential for further development to address the urgent need for effective dengue therapeutics.

White dwarfs (WDs), as the remnants of low to intermediate-mass stars, provide a unique opportunity to explore the interplay between quantum mechanical degeneracy pressure and gravitational forces under extreme conditions. In this study, we examine the structure and macroscopic properties of WDs within the framework of 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (4DEGB) gravity, a modified theory that incorporates higher-order curvature corrections through the Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant α. Using the modified Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff (TOV) equations tailored for 4DEGB gravity, we analyze the hydrostatic equilibrium of WDs modeled with a realistic equation of state (EoS). Our findings reveal that the inclusion of the Gauss-Bonnet (GB) term significantly influences the mass-radius (M−R) relation, allowing for deviations from the Chandrasekhar mass limit. In particular, we observe that such stars become more compact and slightly smaller with the increase of the parameter α. For WDs with |α|≤500km², the impact of 4DEGB gravity appears to be negligible. However, a larger range for α allows for appreciable changes in the M−R diagram, mainly in the high-central-density region. Furthermore, we explore the role of anisotropic pressures, quantified by the parameter β, on such systems and demonstrate their impact on stability and compactness. For sufficiently large values of |β| keeping negative β with a large and positive α, there exists a second stable branch according to the classical stability criterion dM/dρ_c>0. These results suggest that anisotropic WDs in 4DEGB gravity exhibit unique characteristics that distinguish them from their general relativistic counterparts, offering a novel testing ground for modified gravity theories in astrophysical settings. © 2025 The Author(s)

The oxidative dehydrogenation (ODH) of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a critical process in biogas purification, enabling cleaner and more efficient utilization of renewable energy sources. This study employs density functional theory (DFT) and microkinetic modeling to investigate the role of external oxygen (Oext) in enhancing the catalytic performance of O2/α-Fe2O3(0 0 0 1) surfaces. The findings reveal that Oext significantly lowers the activation energy of key reaction steps, promotes more favorable reaction pathways, and mitigates sulfur poisoning by stabilizing lattice oxygen and suppressing the formation of oxygen vacancies. The unique electronic and structural properties of the O2/α-Fe2O3(0 0 0 1) surface facilitate improved catalyst activity and extended operational stability, addressing key challenges in sustainable energy technologies. The existence of the Oext can decrease the optimal temperature of ODH of H2S from >1150 K on the pristine α-Fe2O3(0 0 0 1) surface to 850 K on the O2/α-Fe2O3(0 0 0 1) surface. Furthermore, undergoing the ODH reaction to the steady state is 1.25 × 103 times faster than that of a lean α-Fe2O3(0 0 0 1) surface. Also, the amount of poisoned species of S* on the O2/α-Fe2O3(0 0 0 1) surface is lowered significantly. This work advances the design of robust catalysts for efficient H2S removal by providing a deeper understanding of catalytic behavior and deactivation mechanisms. The insights presented here contribute to cleaner energy production and environmental protection, bridging fundamental knowledge and practical applications in catalysis. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd
