In this paper, we extended the Snow Ball algorithm to model Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networks based on the age-dependent branching process. We proved the extended Snow Ball algorithm approached a minimum delay bound in P2P networks. Given a fixed delay T, the maximal population to which a piece of content can be disseminated is derived, based on the age-dependent branching process. Similarly, we also mathematically analyze the minimum delay when the population N is fixed. © 2011 IEEE.

A high efficient incremental microblog crawler: design and implementation

With the rapid development of microblog technology, many interesting research issues in microblog have aroused growing attention. Fetching data from microblog is the groundwork of these researches. In this paper we propose a flexible multithreading microblog crawling architecture based on the classic multiproducers and multi-consumers model, and further implement a high efficient incremental microblog crawler towards Sina Microblog (also called Weibo). The designed crawler can solve the vertical crawling, dynamic webpage and automatic loginning problems which can't be solved by the general crawler. Meanwhile it can achieve high-precision structured webdata extraction. Some measurements are designed to evaluate the crawling performance. experimental results demonstrate that the crawler can achieve over 95% coverage and a good freshness. Large-scale artificial societies with millions or billions of agents call for high-performance parallel *** supercomputers with thousands of CPUs and GPUs make it possible to carry out such *** key is to distribute large-scale agents to massive cores of CPUs and GPUs properly for parallel computing with efficient communication and *** simplicity and efficiency,a modified discrete event system specification(DEVS)is proposed for large-scale artificial society modeling and parallelism is exploited in agent models because similar agents usually share similar *** phased synchronization,a two-tier parallel simulation engine is designed with support of MPI and OpenCL where GPU is used as ***-sided communication is used for reflection of remote simulation objects and message passing between processes.A general kernel function prototype is elaborately designed and conditionally compiled for execution on both CPU and *** artificial society for epidemic study is used to test the performance on a supercomputer with 1024 CPU cores and 1792 GPU *** speedup reaches 3512 for even 2 billion agents with GPU acceleration which is far over 701 when only CPUs are *** turns out feasible for parallel simulation of large-scale artificial society with GPU as coprocessor.

Extremely popular and commonly adopted microblogging service is not only a new form of communication, but also seen as a place for "fueling" viral marketing. Due to essential openness and growing ubiquity, microblogsphere offers ways to manipulate the trending topics, through arranging a number of "messengers" who send messages and make a push on maximizing influence propagation. In this paper, we present an initial study on quantifying and characterizing the events referring to viral campaigns launched in microblogsphere. Our study is based on two independent data sets, one corresponds to an event referring to viral campaign and the other can be considered as not planned. We examine collectively dynamic response of the event referring to viral campaign, in comparison with the event not planed. We find the event referring to viral campaign exhibits different evolving pattern from the other event. Top users with extremely high yield of microblogs in the event referring to viral campaign has been proven to account for the exceptional pattern of dynamic response. We further investigate the individual dynamic response and calculate the centrality of top users for quantitative characterization of these users. This work aims to suggest insights into the evolving of events referring to the viral campaign launched in microblogsphere and the behavior pattern of top users in these events who may dominate the event evolving. © 2012 IEEE.

Opinion dynamics in social networks with heterogeneous relationships

Recently, significant attention has been devoted to the models of opinion dynamics, which are on the hypothesis of homogeneous relationships. However, many realistic social networks display a large heterogeneity in the relationships of individuals, which have signed and weighted properties. In this paper, we propose a model of opinion dynamics in a network with heterogeneous relationships, where the influence of individuals depends on their heterogeneous relationships. By conducting a series of simulations in different complex social networks, we find that the distribution of opinions at steady state depends on the ratio of number of positive relationships and average connectivity of a network. The final opinions undergo a transition from the bipolarization phase to the consensus phase gradually as increasing the ratio of positive relationships. We also observe that the topological properties of complex networks such as short path length, high clustering, and heterogeneous degrees have few effects on the opinion dynamics at steady state. As to the effects of initial opinion distribution on opinion dynamics, it only makes sense when the social system is full of positive relationships. © 2014 Binary Information Press.

Sina-Microblog, the earliest and biggest microblogging service in China, has become one of the most popular media in information propagation. In order to gain insights into the topological and information diffusing characteristics of microblogging network in China, we crawled Sina-Microblog for about 3 months and obtain the trace of its topology and topics. Compared with other online social networks, our measurement study shows a number of interesting findings. Our data suggests that Sina-Microblog network has apparent small-world effect and scale-free characteristic, specially, the outdegree distribution appears to have multiple separate power-law regimes with different exponents. We also observe the overlay graph of Sina-Microblog represents assortative mixing pattern and weak correlation of indegree and outdegree. Moreover, by constructing the cascades of different topics, our data suggests that the distribution of cascades size follows a power-law and heavy-tailed property with the slope approximately 2, and the common motifs of cascades with different topics are very similar, above 93% of them are isolated nodes. In order to find the formative motivity of hot cascades, we find that they always evolve to the structures like star pattern and two-polar pattern, which are mainly due to the indegree of participating nodes, and are also correlated with the content of tweet. © 2011 IEEE.

A promising P2P application, P2P-TV, has attracted hundreds of thousands of Chinese viewers. These viewers who are located in different regions represent groups with distinct cultures. However, little existing research has provided sufficient insights into the societal impact of P2P-TV systems, from the viewpoint of geographic distribution of viewers. In this paper, we analyze geographic distribution of viewers of three most popular P2P-TV systems simultaneously, PPLive, PPStream and UUSee. With more than 20 GB worth of log data from three different P2P-TV systems, we have completed a thorough investigation of geographic distribution of viewers. We also seek to explore the potential correlation between viewer population density and economic development level and find that there is indeed a highly negative correlation between them. © 2011 IEEE.

Social multimedia content had an unprecedented increasing trend in recent years, and receiving a number of research attentions. Images, an exceedingly expressive form of social multimedia, can be widely seen in news report for social emergency. Among the vast number of images for social emergency are many repurposed images, that is, variants not interpreted as what the original images express. Such repurposed images appear in many online pages and may mislead the public. This make it being an interesting and challenging task to identify whether an image is repurposed. We propose a novel framework, called SOFC, to identify the repurposed images. A SIFT-based identical parts finding algorithm is used to find and align all potential identical blocks in the repurposed images and the original images. We then compute the similarity of the potential identical blocks by implementing an object-based likelihood measuring algorithm, to determine whether these blocks are identical in the two images. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed identification method is validated by experiments on a image set of real social emergency. © 2011 IEEE.

As P2P-TV applications are widely used on the Internet, its disadvantages shows up with its conventions, particular the easier spread of erotic, violent or pirated content. To address this problem, this paper presents a system that can accurately identify and closely monitor the P2P-TV traffic passing through a campus network. It consists of five core modules: data collection, traffic identification, active measurement, video content detection and filter, and center of visualization. The basic flow of the content monitoring contains five steps: 1) the data collection module collects mixed traffic from the campus gateway, 2) the traffic identification module classifies the mirrored traffic and identifies the P2P-TV traffic flows of the corresponding platforms and their channels watching by the viewers in the campus network, 3) the active measurement module is driven to probe the behavior, IP addresses and geographical positions of online viewers, 4) the video content detection and filter module recovers the video content from the identified P2P-TV traffic and performs anomaly detection, and 5) the center of visualization module is responsible to interact with other modules and visualizes all results on the web in various manners. © 2011 IEEE.

Relations between users on online social media sites often reflect a mixture of positive and negative interactions. The network composed by those positive and negative relations is called signed social network. We design a web crawler to collect the data base on a special web event of battle between "Fang Zhouzi" and "Han Han". And we construct a signed social network with sentiment weighted relationships base on this empirical data. Under this empirical spread web structure, we construct an extended SIR spread model in such a signed social network with sentiment weighted relationships, and we study influence with the network factors of signed, directed and weighted on opinion spreading. Under this model, we could know the proportion of signed edges is most important factor to the spread result. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
