Adsorption of typical gasoline vapor emitted from service stations by commercial activated carbon:static/dynamic adsorption and kinetics simulation

Gasoline vapor emissions from service stations significantly affect urban *** the research on the mechanisms and effectiveness of gasoline vapor removal is limited,this study innovatively investigates the static and dynamic adsorption of xylene—a typical gasoline vapor and one of the most active secondary organic aerosol(SOA)species—by commercial activated carbon(AC).The results showed that the saturation static adsorption capacity(Q_(e))of 12 ACs varied from 0.9 to 870.7 mg/g,which correlated with the specific surface area(SSA)and pore *** them,11#and 12#ACs were identified as the most effective adsorbents for typical gasoline vapor *** maximum dynamic Q_(e) increased from 301.5 to 414.3 mg/g when the initial xylene concentration rose from 918 to 2008 mg/m^(3) for 11#AC,and from 201.4 to 406.2 mg/g when the initial xylene concentration increased from 589 to 2120 mg/m^(3) for 12#*** findings implied a direct correlation between higher initial xylene concentrations and greater dynamic Q_(e) values,with static Q_(e) values surpassing dynamic *** adsorption kinetics simulation were analyzed by the pseudo-first-order(PFO)and pseudo-second-order(PSO)*** kinetics results demonstrated that the PFO was more effective in characterizing the adsorption of xylene onto ACs(R2>0.989),indicating that the adsorption of typical gasoline vapor by ACs primarily involves physical *** findings of static/dynamic adsorption and kinetics provide valuable guidance for practical applications of gasoline vapor removal in service stations.

Vacuum ammonia stripping from liquid digestate:Effects of pH,alkalinity,temperature,negative pressure and process optimization

High ammonia-nitrogen digestate has become a key bottleneck limiting the anaerobic digestion of organic solid *** ammonia stripping can simultaneously remove and recover ammonia nitrogen,which has attracted a lot of attention in recent *** investigate the parameter effects on the efficiency and mass transfer,five combination conditions(53℃ 15 kPa,60°C 20 kPa,65°C 25 kPa,72°C 35 kPa,and 81°C 50 kPa)were conducted for ammonia stripping of sludge *** results showed that 80%of ammonia nitrogen was stripped in 45 min for all experimental groups,but the ammonia transfer coefficient varied under different conditions,which increased with the rising of boiling point temperature,and reached the maximum value(39.0 mm/hr)at 81°C 50 *** ammonia nitrogen removal efficiency was more than 80%for 30 min vacuum stripping after adjusting the initial pH to above 9.5,and adjustment of the initial alkalinity also affects the pH value of liquid *** was found that pH and alkalinity are the key factors influencing the ammonia nitrogen dissociation and removal efficiency,while temperature and vacuum mainly affect the ammonia nitrogen mass transfer and removal *** terms of the mechanism of vacuum ammonia stripping,it underwent alkalinity destruction,pH enhancement,ammonia nitrogen dissociation,and free ammonia *** this study,two-stage experiments of alkalinity destruction and ammonia removal were also carried out,which showed that the two-stage configuration was beneficial for ammonia *** provides a theoretical basis and practical technology for the vacuum ammonia stripping from liquid digestate of organic solid waste.

Long-term intake of high-fat diet(HFD)leads to systemic hypo-inflammation,which is involved in the pathogenesis of many liver *** aim of this study was to evaluate the interventional effect of inulin addition on HFD-induced non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD).Here,we assessed liver inflammation and lipid metabolism by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)kits and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction(q PCR),and explored its relationship with intestinal flora and metabolites by 16S r DNA gene sequencing and untargeted *** addition,we determined the effect of the inositol-requiring enzyme-1α-X-box binding protein 1(IRE1α-XBP1)pathway on liver macrophage polarization by flow *** conclusion,our study has demonstrated that inulin ameliorates high levels of bile acids and colonic immune disorders induced by HFD,and improves hepatic macrophage polarization and hepatic lipid metabolism via the intestine-hepatic axis,thus providing a mechanistic basis for therapeutic approaches to modulate bile acids to improve colonic inflammation and NAFLD.

Oxidation of organic amines(OAs)or aromatic hydrocarbons(AHs)produces carbonyls,which further react with OAs to form carbonyl-amine condensation products,threatening environmental quality and human ***,there is still a lack of systematic understanding of the carbonyl-amine condensation reaction processes of OAs or between OAs and AHs,and subsequent environmental health *** work systematically investigated the carbonyl-amine condensation coupled ozonolysis kinetics,reaction mechanism,secondary organic aerosol(SOA)formation and cytotoxicity fromthe mixture of dipropylamine(DPA)and styrene(STY)by a combined method of productmass spectrometry identification,particle property analysis and cell exposure *** results from ozonolysis of DPA and STY mixture revealed that STY inhibited the ozonolysis of DPA to different degrees to accelerate its own decay *** barycenter of carbonyl-amine condensation reactionswas shifted from inside of DPA to between DPA and STY,which accelerated STY ozonolysis,but slowed down DPA *** the first time,ozonolysis of DPA and STY mixture to complex carbonyl-amine condensation products through the reactions of DPA with its carbonyl products,DPA with STY’s carbonyl products and DPA’s bond breakage product with STY’s carbonyl products was *** condensation products significantly contributed to the formation and growth of *** SOA containing particulate carbonyl-amine condensation products showed definite *** findings are helpful to deeply and comprehensively understand the transformation,fate and environmental health effects of mixed organics in atmospheric environment.

The manufacture and obsolescence of smartphones produce numerous waste plastic accessories(e.g.,waste smartphone protective film(WSPF)),possessing immense potential for ***,available recycling technologies have limitations such as substrate damage and secondary pollutant *** present study aimed to develop a green disposal method that not only recycled polyethylene terephthalate(PET)from WSPF,but also reused the stripped polyacrylate(PAA)adhesive as an adsorbent to reduce solid waste *** the WSPF was treated in 1 mol/L NaOH solution at 90°C,the PAA hydrolyzed to two main by-products of 1-butanol and 2-ethylhexanol,weakening the binding strength between PAA and PET and then efficient separation of *** bench-scale test revealed that over 97.2%of detachment efficiency toward PAA was achieved during continuous treatment of 17 batches of WSPF(200 g for each)without supplement of NaOH and generation of ***,the economic evaluation indicated that the recycling method would generate a net profit margin of 647%for the second year without considering the incurrence of new cost and ***,the pyrolysis of waste PAA enabled its conversion into potential adsorbent,which showed 2 to 4 times enhanced adsorption capacity toward styrene and ethyl acetate after modification with NaOH *** study provides a green method for recycling waste plastics and inspires a referable solution for solid waste treatment in the smartphone industry.

Brown carbon(BrC)has attracted widespread attention because of its strong absorption of solar radiation in the ultraviolet-visible wavelength range,which causes adverse impacts on human ***,BrC was a physically defined class of ***,current research has gradually shifted towards the identification of its chemical groups,because its light-absorbing capability,chemical properties and health effects mainly depend on the chemical composition of its ***,this review mainly focuses on the chemical understanding of BrC based on chromophores,and the secondary formation mechanism of chromophores,photosensitized reactions,and human health effects of BrC were detailly ***,BrC chromophores are divided into five categories:nitrogen-heterocycles,nitrogen-chain,aromatic species,oligomers and sulfur-containing organic *** chromophore precursor species exhibit variations,and their formation mechanisms are also ***,BrC can trigger the production of secondary organic aerosol(SOA)precursors or cause SOA growth because BrC is an important component of light-absorbing particles formed during incomplete combustion of biomass and fossil fuels,potentially exerting adverse effects on human ***,developing sufficiently separated methods for BrC and refining algorithms and machine learning can lead to a more effective understanding of the chemical composition of chromophores,thus enabling better evaluation of the atmospheric effects and health impacts of *** all,this review provides new insights into the categories of BrC chromophores and new advance in secondary formation mechanisms,photosensitized reactions,and human health effects on the basis of chemical structures.

Small sample learning based on probability-informed neural networks for SAR image segmentation

The paper introduces a probability-informed methodology for the segmentation of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images in the case of small sample learning. It assumes that the amount of training data is limited to several hundred or thousand elements, which prevents the effective training of state-of-the-art neural network (NN) models. This is a typical problem for real SAR images whose characteristics depend significantly on the sensors used to produce them and cannot always be repeated within open available datasets. To solve this problem, we propose NN models called Probability-Informed Neural Networks (PrINNs). As part of our approach, we introduce the use of probability models as a source of additional features for data. Specifically, the training dataset is enriched by modeling the pixel brightness using a finite normal mixture. We prove that such an extension can reduce errors in the learning process theoretically. The resulting enriched dataset is segmented using attention-based convolutional NNs or visual transformers. Then, post-processing is implemented based on another probability model—quadtree, which is a special case of random Markov fields. As we have theoretically demonstrated, this part of PrINNs is analogous to the graph-convolutional NNs with fixed weights. Using open SAR images obtained by different radars (namely, Sentinel-1, Capella, ESAR and HRSID) with various types of underlying surfaces, the possibility of improving segmentation quality based on PrINNs is demonstrated. We tested various combinations of methods from the PrINNs architecture, and in all cases, the PrINN approach we proposed was superior to any other combination of these methods. From the point of view of the achieved accuracy metrics, the mean F1 score increased up to 19.24%, and the median F1 score was improved up to 9.57%. To facilitate the low-noise design of tandem lift bodies as applied in aeroengines and aircraft,the acoustic features of tandem blades are investigated by wind-tunnel *** is further specialized for the rotating blades applied in contra-rotating open rotors under the concept of frozen-rotor.A 70-channel phased microphone array and nine high-precision free-field microphones are *** beamforming method,enhanced by a source filtering technique,is employed to locate noise sources,providing insights into the source patterns of blade-blade interaction noise concerning flow speed,blade spacing,and aft blade *** results show the following:(A)Sources of tandem-blade noise exist in the form of concentrated source clusters,resulting in two major clusters:the mid-span interaction noise and the tip-induced noise.(B)These source clusters tend to separate as flow speed or blade spacing increases.(C)By increasing blade spacing,the band-pass filtered overall sound pressure level is reduced by 2.9 dB.(D)A two-phase noise suppression pattern is observed with blade clipping,resulting in a total reduction of 3.0 dB for the interaction noise through the removal of tip-induced noise sources and the replacement of mid-span noise *** on these findings,suggestions concerning blade spacing and clipping are discussed.
