Ursolic acid inhibiting excessive reticulophagic flux contributes to alleviate ochratoxin A-induced endoplasmic reticulum stress-and mitochondrial-mediated apoptosis

Foods and animal feeds frequently become contaminated with the nephrotoxic ochratoxin A(OTA).Our prior research has indicated that ursolic acid(UA),which is widely present in fruits and medicinal plants,has the potential to alleviate nephrotoxicity triggered by ***,excessive induction of endoplasmic reticulum(ER)-phagy exacerbates OTA-induced ***,further investigation is essential to comprehend whether UA can mitigate OTA-induced apoptosis by influencing *** objective is accomplished through a series of experiments involving assessments of cell viability,apoptosis,fluorescence microscopy,and western blot *** outcomes of these experiments reveal that pre-treatment with 4μmol/L UA for 2 h can markedly reverse the elevated apoptotic rate,the co-localization of ER and lysosomes,and the protein expressions of GRP78,p-eIF2α,Chop,Bax,and Bak,as well as the reduced cell viability and the protein expressions of Lonp1,Trap1,p62,Tex264,FAM134B,Bcl-2,and Bcl-xl,all caused by exposure to 1μmol/L OTA for 24 h in human proximal tubule epithelial-originated kidney-2(HK-2)cells(P<0.05).Interestingly,the increased expression of LC3B-II induced by OTA is further amplified by UA pre-treatment(P<0.05).In conclusion,OTA triggers a harmful feedback loop between ER stress(ERS)and excessive ER-phagy,thereby further promoting ERS-and mitochondrial-mediated apoptosis in ***,this effect is significantly mitigated by UA through the inhibition of autophagosome-lysosome fusion,consequently blocking the excessive ER-phagic flux.

Counteracting New Attacks in CPS: A Few-shot Class-incremental Adaptation Strategy for Intrusion Detection System

The deep integration of physical devices and communication networks has increased the security risks of cyber-physical systems (CPSs) compared to traditional control systems. Deep learning-based intrusion detection systems (IDSs) play a crucial role in ensuring CPSs security. However, the existing IDSs often rely on known attack features, rendering them unable to withstand emerging new attacks arising from the dynamic evolution of intrusion behaviors. This paper aims to develop an IDSs with high adaptability and strong generalization capabilities, which is capable of rapidly adapting to new attack classes with only a few new samples. To achieve this objective, we propose CAT-IDS, a few-shot class-incremental adaptation strategy for an IDS to counteract new attacks on CPSs. We design a highly symmetric classifier structure for CAT-IDS that can flexibly adjust the classification space to adapt to new attacks. Furthermore, we calibrate the biased distribution formed by a few training samples through statistical feature transfer. In order to prevent the model from forgetting old attack information during the adaptation process, we devise hybrid features for attack detection. These features contain essential information for both old and new class classifications. We demonstrate the effectiveness of CAT-IDS through multiple experiments on three CPSs datasets. The results show that CAT-IDS achieves an average accuracy improvement of approximately 4. 5% compared to the state-of-the-art methods, demonstrating its superior ability to adapt to new attacks while maintaining high performance in classifying existing attacks. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

The formal description of the assets and liabilities management (ALM) by a bank within regulatory requirements leads to an optimal control problem with phase constraints. The phase constraints arise from the restrictions on banking activities, which are set by law to maintain the banking process. Solving such model explicitly is rarely possible, and numerical calculations enable to study its properties. The indirect method of the solution involves formulating the system of necessary optimality conditions and then computation of the ordinary differential equations system combined with specific equations for dual variables. sEMG (surface electromyography) signal control of bionic prostheses has been widely studied over the past few years. In particular, sparse sEMG signals are rapidly developing in the field of gesture recognition for their convenience, noninvasiveness, and ease of access. However, compared with high-density EMG signals, sparse EMG signals lack rich feature information, which in turn affects gesture recognition accuracy. In order to reduce the loss of feature information of sparse EMG signals in the spatio-temporal dimension, this paper proposes a hybrid neural network Res-LSTM combining residual network and long short-term memory network. The ordinary convolutional blocks in the CNN network are replaced with residual blocks, and the final fully connected layer is removed and a constant mapping layer is added to adequate extraction of spatial feature information of the data. The Res layer’s output is utilized as the input for the long and short-term memory (LSTM) network, which further extracts the features of the data in the temporal dimension, and finally completes the categorization output through a fully connected layer. The average accuracy of 91.11% for gesture-motion classification was verified by training on a homebrew dataset;and tested on a public dataset, NinaPro DB1, with an average accuracy of 91.03%. The experimental findings indicate that the proposed Res-LSTM network framework contributes to solving the problem of lack of feature information of sparse sEMG signals and improves the pattern recognition accuracy. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

The emergence of several chemical substances continues to enrich and facilitate the development of food science, but their irrational use also poses a threat to food safety and human health. Nontargeted screening (NTS) has become an important tool for rapid traceability and efficient identification of chemical hazards in food matrices. NTS in food analysis is highly integrated with sample pretreatment, instrumental analysis platforms, data acquisition and analysis, and toxicology. This article is a systemic review of current sample preparation, analytical platforms, and toxicity-guided NTS techniques and provides the latest advancements in workflows and innovative applications of the NTS process based on mass spectrometric techniques. High-throughput toxicity screening platforms play an important role in NTS of unknown chemical hazards of complex food matrices. Advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence are increasingly accessible fields that may effectively process large-scale screening data and advance food NTS research. Modern societies increasingly rely on automatic control systems. These systems are hardly pure technical systems; instead they are complex socio-technical systems, which consist of technical elements and social components. It is necessary to have a systematic approach to analyze these systems because it is growing evidence that accidents from these systems usually have complex causal factors which form an interconnected network of events, rather than a simple cause-effect chain. We take railway Train control systems (TCS) as an example to demonstrate the importance of the socio-technical approach to analyze the system. The paper presents an investigation of recent high-speed railway accident by applying STAMP - one of the most notable socio-technical system analysis techniques, outlines improvements to the system which could avoid similar accidents in the future. We also provide our valuable feedback for the use of STAMP.

This paper proposed a robust model predictive control for permanent magnet synchronous motors taking into account the effect of disturbance. A structure cascading extended Kalman filter (EKF) and linear extended state observer (LESO) is used to estimate the position of the motor without using encoders. Firstly, the voltage vector reference containing information of the system speed and current are predicted using the deadbeat control. Meanwhile, the ultra-local model of the system is built considering the lumped disturbance of the motor. The disturbed part of the ultra-local model is updated online according to the information of voltage and current in past two moments. Then, a cascaded EKF-LESO is designed to efficiently estimate position and speed, taking into account disturbances such as measurement noise and model parameter uncertainty. Experimental results verify the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed method. © 2015 IEEE.

Recent findings in the field of neuroimaging have greatly enriched our understanding of the process of human inductive reasoning. However, as an extremely complex cognitive activity, inductive reasoning involves multiple cognitive functions such as attention, memory, executive function, symbol processing, and fluid intelligence, and requires the collaborative participation of multiple brain regions. Therefore, achieving a unified and transparent understanding of human inductive reasoning from different datasets presents formidable challenges. This paper proposes a multi-loop based integration analysis framework of multiple source brain data. By employing representational similarity analysis and multi-task functional neuroimaging analyses, this framework combines internal evidence, i.e., multi-source functional neuroimaging data, and external evidence, i.e., knowledge from published neuroimaging articles, to reveal different neural mechanisms of inductive reasoning in DLPFC and SPL. Experimental results reveal the intricate uncertainty surrounding brain localization in human reasoning. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Prediction of transmission spectrum from photonic energy band via autoencoder network

Optical topological insulators, as an emerging type of photonic material, present substantial benefits for optical communication. The advanced pattern recognition capabilities of deep learning have propelled the inverse design of topological photonic structures into a hot area of research. However, existing methods encounter difficulties with the analysis of intricate band structures. Therefore, we construct a deep learning model capable of handling two-dimensional data of photonic energy band. Utilizing an autoencoder network, our model indirectly trains the photonic energy band and transmission spectrum, by converting them into feature coding. It integrates a transmission spectrum autoencoder and a photonic energy band autoencoder, processing energy band data to predict the corresponding transmission spectrum. The results indicate that compared to convolutional neural network (CNN), our model can accurately predict transmission spectrum, and perform better on both evaluation metrics of RMSE and R2. This work enhances prediction accuracy by leveraging energy band diagrams to constrain optical properties. © 1989-2012 IEEE.

This study investigated the effect and microbial mechanism of microplastics to the N2O emission in underground and aboveground wastewater treatment plants. The microplastics in the influent of Uwwtp and Awwtp were 4953 ± 558 and 2253 ± 563 particles/L. The microplastics rejection rate were 86.36 ± 0.02% (Awwtp) and 90.56 ± 0.02% (Uwwtp), respectively. The N2O concentration were 106.40 ± 134.17 nmol/L in Uwwtp and 53.58 ± 32.68 nmol/L in Awwtp. The N2O/NO3– ratio was 0.55% in the aerobic tank of Uwwtp. The N2O/NH4+ ratio was 0.39% in aerobic tank and 0.52% in secondary sedimentation tank of Awwtp. The microplastics were significantly correlated with NH4+ (p 4+ (p 2–, NO3– (p 2O emission. Microplastics in wwtps, i.e., the plastisphere, may be a novel microbial colonization site that could be vital to N2O emissions. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2025.
