Modelling the dynamics of information warfare: an attacker-defender scenario using Lotka-Volterra equations

The dynamics of information warfare in an attacker-defender scenario pose significant challenges in today’s digital age. To address these challenges, this research models the dynamics of information warfare using modified Lotka-Volterra equations, adapted from predator-prey interactions, to simulate the interactions between attackers and defenders. The model captures the growth, interaction, and feedback loops of both populations, offering insights into their dynamics over time. By incorporating the attacker’s growth rate and the defender’s natural decline rate, and discretizing time for real-time simulation, the study reveals how attacker populations initially grow but decline as defenders enhance their countermeasures. The defender population stabilizes as their defensive capabilities improve, demonstrating the model’s effectiveness in representing the complex dynamics of information warfare. © Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of Computer Applications and Management 2024.

Unveiling the Investigation and Comfort research in Various Scenarios of Mask Protection Equipment against Respiratory Transmission

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is essential to protect medical staff (HCW) from highly infectious diseases such as COVID-19 and masks are indeed important functional small effective defensive equipment in safeguarding the public from infection. However, the thermal comfort, fit, and difficulty breathing when wearing a mask can affect its use and improve filtration efficiency. In addition, there is a lack of available research on thermal comfort, fit, and respiration of masks under actual wearing conditions. To this end, a questionnaire survey and thermal comfort evaluation were used to investigate the thermal comfort and breathing difficulties of 75 volunteers wearing masks in Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei. The results show that the main types of masks in various scenarios are medical masks. Except for the outdoors, the proportion of people who feel basic comfort and fit is the highest in these four areas. About a quarter of people experienced an average of 50-60 and 20-30 min of breathing difficulties in winter and summer, respectively. This study provides a systematic analysis and useful data for mask design and the development of human public health. © 2024 Xin Zhang.

A logical approach to the supervised classification problem is considered. A well-known classifier model is studied, in which the analysis of initial integer data is reduced to the search for certain fragments in the feature descriptions of precedents, called maximum patterns. The main disadvantage of this model is the high number of classification refusals. In addition, the search for maximum patterns is a computationally complex discrete problem. In the presented work, a modification of the model learning stage is proposed based on a new, more effective way of enumerating maximum patterns. It is experimentally established that due to special linear ordering of feature values a higher quality of classification can be achieved. © 2024 IEEE.

An MPI benchmark is a specialized software used for testing the network environment of a supercomputer cluster. When running such programs in a selected test mode, the user sets several parameters. This setting depends on the type and volume of the network load provided by the selected test mode. Benchmarks usually make delay measurements while data are transferred with MPI functions. The delay values for MPI messages may vary over time. Therefore, in the set of parameters, there is almost always a parameter responsible for the number of delay measurements. This parameter is crucial for the information content of collected data. We provide some criteria that allow users to evaluate the information content of collected data. Algorithms based on these criteria strive to determine the number of measurements at runtime. The benchmarking process stops if collected data meet the selected criterion, allowing users to get more informative data and reduce benchmarking time. The features of the proposed algorithms have been investigated at the Shared research Facilities "High-Performance Computing and Big Data" ("CKP Informatics") of the Federal research center "Computer science and control" of the Russian Academy of sciences (FRC CSC RAS, Moscow). The algorithms reduce the number of iterations by half with the following specified qualities: 0.75 for the scalar-based algorithm and 0.81 for the Fourier-based algorithm. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

The development of software for solving applied problems involves the implementation of many routine computational experiments. The approach of continuous software integration, widely used in practice, involves frequent centralized assembly of the program and bench testing. This generates a large amount of test results, which should be promptly available to software developers for error analysis and version comparison. To automate these procedures, the architecture of the automatic quality control system for the structured document recognition program was developed, including the collection, storage and display of bench test results. Software test results are recorded in a database for further analysis. Standing software is performed on virtual servers running various operating systems. For stability, the web server and database are physically separated from the build server. Web technologies are used both to automatically upload test results to a database and to serve user requests. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Data is an important aspect of modern deep learning research, particularly in Place Recognition, which plays a pivotal role in various applications such as robotics, augmented reality, and autonomous navigation. In this paper, we introduce the ITLP-Campus dataset captured by a mobile robot equipped with front and back cameras and a LiDAR sensor. The dataset encompasses diverse outdoor and indoor environments within a university campus setting. Spanning different times of day, seasons, and weather conditions, ITLP-Campus offers a rich and varied set of scenes for analysis. The dataset includes unique features such as strategically placed ArUco markers along routes, automatically generated semantic masks and textual descriptions of scenes. Moreover, indoor tracks are annotated with scene text, enhancing the dataset’s utility for tasks involving text recognition and understanding. We provide detailed insights into the dataset’s acquisition process, annotation procedures, and potential applications. Additionally, we conduct extensive experiments by testing popular Place Recognition methods on ITLP-Campus, demonstrating its effectiveness and versatility for advancing research in multimodal semantic place recognition and related fields. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

The control structure and parameters of the grid-connected inverter in actual projects are usually unknown, which results in the 'black-box' phenomenon. The traditional impedance modeling method is not suitable for the black-box. In this paper, a black-box identification method for the admittance of grid-connected inverters under all operating conditions considering frequency-coupling is proposed. Firstly, accurate discrete admittance data are acquired by the frequency-coupling admittance measurement. Then, the vector fitting (VF) is applied to identify the frequency-coupling admittance under a single operating condition. The black-box models identified by VF are combined with the weighting function to obtain the black-box admittance model of the grid-connected inverter under all operating conditions. Finally, the effectiveness and accuracy of the method are verified via MATLAB/Simulink. The results show that the method introduced in this paper not only can obtain the black-box admittance model under all operating conditions simply through several groups of admittance data, but also has the advantages of efficiency and high accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

Building Information Model (BIM) can describe the information of buildings finely and professionally, while Geographic Information System (GIS) describes the macro three-dimensional scene. Integrating BIM and GIS, two complementary fields, has gradually become a research trend in recent years. In this paper, the BIM model IFC format source file is exported, the helpful information in the source file is extracted, the file is lightweight, and the file is converted into 3DTiles format. Finally, the BIM model is converted into a WebGIS model based on the Cesium engine to achieve better visualization. © COPYRIGHT SPIE.

Solar-Driven Hydrothermal Pretreatment to Improve Anaerobic Digestion of Corn Straw

Because of the increasing contradictions between the depletion of fossil fuels and the pursuit of sustainable development, renewable energy is in great demand. Extra energy inputs restrict biomass from being a carbon–neutral resource for bioenergy conversion. Integrating clean energy can reduce the consumption of conventional energy to settle this issue. Solar energy was introduced into the hydrothermal pretreatment (HP) of lignocellulosic wastes to improve the performance of anaerobic digestion (AD). In this study, a solar-driven hydrothermal pretreatment (SHP) reactor was designed, and four different kinds of weather conditions were selected to investigate the performance of the pretreatment using corn straw (CS) for AD. The results indicated that good weather conditions (high light intensity) achieved the highest temperature of 156.2 °C in the SHP reactor. It was surprising that the pretreated CS at low light intensity (LI) had the highest cumulative methane yield of 210.61 mL/g TS. Correspondingly, the maximum net energy was gained with LI, which was 10.10% higher than that of the untreated substrates. The life cycle assessment results indicated that SHP had better environmental benefits than traditional HP. The work suggested that introducing solar energy into HP is feasible to satisfy the energy requirements, and it is promising for large-scale application. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.
