Green disposal of waste smartphone protective film:Efficiency,mechanism,bench-scale test and secondary waste reutilization

The manufacture and obsolescence of smartphones produce numerous waste plastic accessories(e.g.,waste smartphone protective film(WSPF)),possessing immense potential for ***,available recycling technologies have limitations such as substrate damage and secondary pollutant *** present study aimed to develop a green disposal method that not only recycled polyethylene terephthalate(PET)from WSPF,but also reused the stripped polyacrylate(PAA)adhesive as an adsorbent to reduce solid waste *** the WSPF was treated in 1 mol/L NaOH solution at 90°C,the PAA hydrolyzed to two main by-products of 1-butanol and 2-ethylhexanol,weakening the binding strength between PAA and PET and then efficient separation of *** bench-scale test revealed that over 97.2%of detachment efficiency toward PAA was achieved during continuous treatment of 17 batches of WSPF(200 g for each)without supplement of NaOH and generation of ***,the economic evaluation indicated that the recycling method would generate a net profit margin of 647%for the second year without considering the incurrence of new cost and ***,the pyrolysis of waste PAA enabled its conversion into potential adsorbent,which showed 2 to 4 times enhanced adsorption capacity toward styrene and ethyl acetate after modification with NaOH *** study provides a green method for recycling waste plastics and inspires a referable solution for solid waste treatment in the smartphone industry.

Conformal thin-film sensors enable precise monitoring of the operating conditions of components in extreme ***,the development of these sensors encounters major challenges,especially in uniformly applying multiple film layers on complex metallic surfaces and accurately capturing diverse operational *** work reports a multi-sensor design and multi-layer additive manufacturing process targeting spherical metallic *** proposed high-temperature dip-coating and self-leveling fabrication process achieves high-temperature thin-film coatings with excellent uniformity,high-temperature electrical insulation,and adhesion *** fabricated Ag/Pt thin film thermocouple arrays and a heat flux sensor exhibit a maximum temperature resistance of up to 960℃,with thermoelectric potential outputs and hightemperature resistance closely mirroring those of wire-based Ag/Pt *** environmental testing was conducted using high-power lasers and a flame *** results show that the array of thin-film conformal thermocouples more accurately reflected temperature changes at different points on a spherical *** heat flux sensors achieve responses within 95 ms and with-stand environments with heat fluxes over 1.2 MW/m^(2).The proposed multi-sensor design and fabrication method offers promising monitoring applications in harsh environments,including aerospace and nuclear power.

In this article, the dissolved oxygen(DO) concentration control problem in wastewater treatment process(WWTP) is *** existing control strategies that control DO concentration at a fixed value, here we develop a different control *** the proposed control framework, an intelligent control method of DO concentration based on reinforcement learning(RL)algorithm is presented to resolve the DO concentration control problem. By using the deep deterministic policy gradient(DDPG)algorithm, the DO concentration of the fifth tank in the activated sludge reactor can be adjusted dynamically. In addition, by designing two different reward functions and by analysing the relationships among effluent quality, energy consumption, and DO concentration, the target of energy-saving and emission-reducing is achieved. The simulation results indicate that the designed control method can reduce energy consumption while ensuring that the effluent quality meet the specified standards.

Efficient feature selection for enhanced chiller fault diagnosis:A multi-source ranking information-driven ensemble approach

Fault diagnosis(FD)is essential for ensuring the reliable operation of chillers and preventing energy *** selection(FS)is a critical prerequisite for effective ***,current FS methods have two major ***,most approaches rely on single-source ranking information(SSRI)to evaluate features individually,which results in non-robust outcomes across different models and datasets due to the one-sided nature of ***,thermodynamic mechanism features are often overlooked,leading to incomplete initial feature libraries,making it challenging to select optimal features and achieve better diagnostic *** address these issues,a robust ensemble FS method based on multi-source ranking information(MSRI)is *** employing an efficient strategy based on maximizing relevance while proper redundancy,the MSRI method fully leverages Mutual Information,Information Gain,Gain Ratio,Gini index,Chi-squared,and Relief-F from both qualitative and quantitative ***,comprehensive consideration of thermodynamic mechanism features ensures a complete initial feature *** a methodological standpoint,a general framework for constructing the MSRI-based FS method is *** proposed method is applied to chiller FD and tested across ten widely-used machine learning *** optimized features are selected from the original set of forty-two,achieving an average diagnostic accuracy of 98.40%and an average F-measure above 94.94%,demonstrating the effectiveness and generalizability of the MSRI *** to the SSRI approach,the MSRI method shows superior robustness,with the standard deviation of diagnostic accuracy reduced by 0.03 to 0.07 and an improvement in diagnostic accuracy ranging from 2.53%to 6.12%.Moreover,the MSRI method reduced computation time by 98.62%compared to wrapper methods,without sacrificing accuracy.

Fractional core-based collapse mechanism and structural optimization in complex systems

Catastrophic and major disasters in real-world systems ranging from financial markets and ecosystems, often show generic early-warning signals that may indicate a collapse. Hence, understanding the collapse mechanism of a complex network and predicting its process are of uttermost importance. However, these challenges are often hindered by the extremely high dimensionality of the underlying *** present here the concept of the fractional core(F-core) that considers the contribution of the network topology and dynamics to systematically analyze the collapse process in such networks, and encompass a broad range of dynamical systems, from mutualistic ecosystems to regulatory dynamics. We offer testable predictions on the tipping point, and, in particular, prove that the extinction of the maximum F-core of a network is an efficient indicator of whether a system completely collapses. The results show that the death of species or cells in a low-order F-core may improve the average density and have little influence on the tipping point. Generally, the principle of the F-core demonstrates how complex systems collapse and opens an innovative optimization strategy to uncover the optimal structure of systems.

Lithium-ion capacitors(LICs) of achieving high power and energy density have garnered significant attention. However, the kinetics unbalance between anode and cathode can impede the application of LICs. Vanadium nitride(VN) with a high theoretical specific capacity(~ 1200 m Ah·g^(-1)) is a better pseudocapacitive anode to match the response of cathode in LICs. However, the insertion/extraction of Li-ions in VN's operation results in significant volume expansion. Herein, the VN/N-r GO-5composite that three-dimentional(3D) dicyandiamidederived-carbon(DDC) tightly wrapped VN quantum dots(VN QDTs) on two-dimentional(2D) reduced graphene oxid(r GO) was prepared by a facile strategy. The VN QDTs can reduce ion diffusion length and improve charge transfer kinetics. The 2D r GO as a template provides support for nanoparticle dispersion and improves electrical conductivity. The 3D DDC tightly encapsulated with VN QDTs mitigates agglomeration of VN particles as well as volume expansion. Correspondingly, the LICs with VN/Nr GO-5 composite as anode and activated carbon(AC) as cathode were fabricated, which exhibits a high energy density and power density. Such strategy provides a perspective for improving the electrochemical properties of LIC anode materials by suppressing volume expansion and enhancing conductivity.

Discriminative low-rank embedding with manifold constraint for image feature extraction and classification

The robustness against noise, outliers, and corruption is a crucial issue in image feature extraction. To address this concern, this paper proposes a discriminative low-rank embedding image feature extraction algorithm. Firstly, to enhance the discriminative power of the extracted features, a discriminative term is introduced using label information, obtaining global discriminative information and learning an optimal projection matrix for data dimensionality reduction. Secondly, manifold constraints are incorporated, unifying low-rank embedding and manifold constraints into a single framework to capture the geometric structure of local manifolds while considering both local and global information. Finally, test samples are projected into a lower-dimensional space for classification. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves classification accuracies of 95.62%, 95.22%, 86.38%, and 86.54% on the ORL, CMUPIE, AR, and COIL20 datasets, respectively, outperforming dimensionality reduction-based image feature extraction algorithms.

Brown carbon(BrC)has attracted widespread attention because of its strong absorption of solar radiation in the ultraviolet-visible wavelength range,which causes adverse impacts on human ***,BrC was a physically defined class of ***,current research has gradually shifted towards the identification of its chemical groups,because its light-absorbing capability,chemical properties and health effects mainly depend on the chemical composition of its ***,this review mainly focuses on the chemical understanding of BrC based on chromophores,and the secondary formation mechanism of chromophores,photosensitized reactions,and human health effects of BrC were detailly ***,BrC chromophores are divided into five categories:nitrogen-heterocycles,nitrogen-chain,aromatic species,oligomers and sulfur-containing organic *** chromophore precursor species exhibit variations,and their formation mechanisms are also ***,BrC can trigger the production of secondary organic aerosol(SOA)precursors or cause SOA growth because BrC is an important component of light-absorbing particles formed during incomplete combustion of biomass and fossil fuels,potentially exerting adverse effects on human ***,developing sufficiently separated methods for BrC and refining algorithms and machine learning can lead to a more effective understanding of the chemical composition of chromophores,thus enabling better evaluation of the atmospheric effects and health impacts of *** all,this review provides new insights into the categories of BrC chromophores and new advance in secondary formation mechanisms,photosensitized reactions,and human health effects on the basis of chemical structures.

Rock failure can cause serious geological disasters,and the non-extensive statistical features of electric potential(EP)are expected to provide valuable information for disaster *** this paper,the uniaxial compression experiments with EP monitoring were carried out on fine sandstone,marble and granite samples under four displacement *** Tsallis entropy q value of EPs is used to analyze the selforganization evolution of rock *** the influence of displacement rate and rock type on q value are explored by mineral structure and fracture modes.A self-organized critical prediction method with q value is *** results show that the probability density function(PDF)of EPs follows the q-Gaussian *** displacement rate is positively correlated with q *** the displacement rate increasing,the fracture mode changes,the damage degree intensifies,and the microcrack network becomes *** influence of rock type on q value is related to the burst intensity of energy release and the crack fracture *** q value of EPs can be used as an effective prediction index for rock failure like b value of acoustic emission(AE).The results provide useful reference and method for the monitoring and early warning of geological disasters.

Nonnegative Matrix Factorization(NMF)is one of the most popular feature learning technologies in the field of machine learning and pattern *** has been widely used and studied in the multi-view clustering tasks because of its *** study proposes a general semi-supervised multi-view nonnegative matrix factorization *** algorithm incorporates discriminative and geometric information on data to learn a better-fused representation,and adopts a feature normalizing strategy to align the different *** specific implementations of this algorithm are developed to validate the effectiveness of the proposed framework:Graph regularization based Discriminatively Constrained Multi-View Nonnegative Matrix Factorization(GDCMVNMF)and Extended Multi-View Constrained Nonnegative Matrix Factorization(ExMVCNMF).The intrinsic connection between these two specific implementations is discussed,and the optimization based on multiply update rules is *** on six datasets show that the effectiveness of GDCMVNMF and ExMVCNMF outperforms several representative unsupervised and semi-supervised multi-view NMF approaches.
