Artificial Intelligence (AI) has achieved significant advancements in technology and research with the development over several decades, and is widely used in many areas including computing vision, natural language processing, time-series analysis, speech synthesis, etc. During the age of deep learning, especially with the arise of Large Language Models, a large majority of researchers’ attention is paid on pursuing new state-of-the-art (SOTA) results, resulting in ever increasing of model size and computational complexity. The needs for high computing power brings higher carbon emission and undermines research fairness by preventing small or medium-sized research institutions and companies with limited funding in participating in research. To tackle the challenges of computing resources and environmental impact of AI, Green computing has become a hot research topic. In this survey, we give a systematic overview of the technologies used in Green computing. We propose the framework of Green computing and devide it into four key components: (1) Measures of Greenness, (2) Energy-Efficient AI, (3) Energy-Efficient computing Systems and (4) AI Use Cases for Sustainability. For each components, we discuss the research progress made and the commonly used techniques to optimize the AI efficiency. We conclude that this new research direction has the potential to address the conflicts between resource constraints and AI development. We encourage more researchers to put attention on this direction and make AI more environmental friendly. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Workflow decision making is critical to performing many practical workflow applications. Scheduling in edge-cloud environments can address the high complexity problem of workflow applications, while decreasing the data transmission delay between the cloud and end devices. However, because of the heterogeneous resources in edge-cloud environments and the complicated data dependencies among the tasks in a workflow, significant challenges for workflow scheduling remain, including the selection of an optimal tasks-servers solution from the possible numerous combinations. The existing studies have been mainly done subject to rigorous conditions without fluctuations, ignoring the fact that workflow scheduling is typically present in uncertain environments. In this study, we focus on reducing the execution cost of workflow applications mainly caused by task computation and data transmission, while satisfying the workflow deadline in uncertain edge-cloud environments. The Triangular Fuzzy Numbers (TFNs) are adopted to represent the task processing time and data transferring time. A cost-driven fuzzy scheduling strategy based on an Adaptive Discrete Particle Swarm Optimization (ADPSO) algorithm is proposed, which employs the operators of Genetic Algorithm (GA). This strategy introduces the randomly two-point crossover operator, neighborhood mutation operator, and adaptive multipoint mutation operator of GA to effectively avoid converging on local optima. The experimental results show that our strategy can effectively reduce the workflow execution cost in uncertain edge-cloud environments, compared with other benchmark solutions. The traditional blockchain has the shortcoming that a single-chain can only deal with one or a few specific data types. The research question of how to make blockchain be able to deal with various data types has not been well studied. In this paper, we propose a single-chain based extension model of blockchain for fintech (SEBF). In the financial environment, we design a four-layer architecture for this model. By employing the external trusted oracle group and a financial regulator agency, a variety types of data can be effectively stored in the blockchain, such that the data type extension based on a single-chain is realized. Social media has become an important information platform where people consume and share news. However, it has also enabled the wide dissemination of false news, i.e., news posts published on social media that are verifiably false, causing significant negative effects on society. To help prevent further propagation of false news on social media, we set up this competition to motivate the development of automated real-time false news detection approaches. Specifically, this competition includes three subtasks: false-news text detection, false-news image detection, and falsenews multi-modal detection, which aims to motivate participants to further explore the efficiency of multiple modalities in detecting false news and effective fusion approaches of multi-modal contents. To better support this competition, we also construct and release a multi-modal data repository about False News on Weibo Social platform(MCG-FNeWS) to help evaluate the performance of different approaches from participants. The rapid advancements in quantum computing (QC) and machine learning (ML) have led to the emergence of quantum machine learning (QML), which integrates the strengths of both fields. Among QML approaches, variational quantum circuits (VQCs), also known as quantum neural networks (QNNs), have shown promise both empirically and theoretically. However, their broader adoption is hindered by reliance on quantum hardware during inference. Hardware imperfections and limited access to quantum devices pose practical challenges. To address this, the quantum-Train (QT) framework leverages the exponential scaling of quantum amplitudes to generate classical neural network parameters, enabling inference without quantum hardware and achieving significant parameter compression. Yet, designing effective quantum circuit architectures for such quantum-enhanced neural programmers remains non-trivial and often requires expertise in quantum information science. In this paper, we propose an automated solution using differentiable optimization. Our method jointly optimizes both conventional circuit parameters and architectural parameters in an end-to-end manner via automatic differentiation. We evaluate the proposed framework on classification, time-series prediction, and reinforcement learning tasks. Simulation results show that our method matches or outperforms manually designed QNN architectures. This work offers a scalable and automated pathway for designing QNNs that can generate classical neural network parameters across diverse applications. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. Energy efficiency basically refers to how effectively energy can be utilised or consumed by any virtualised data centre giving cloud administrations. Since Genetic Algorithm (GA) is an acceptable method to solve the VM placement problem, this research formulates the Virtual Machine (VM) placement problem as a constrained optimisation problem. A considerable amount of residual resources is available for each new VM allocation, however they are distributed across multiple active PMs, rendering them inefficient. Our research focuses on improving a data centre’s energy and time efficiency by devising a technique to decrease PM’s residual resources and make them more valuable. As the most time consuming element of a GA is calculating the fitness function, this paper presents a new fitness function to simplify the fitness function calculation in GA. The results are compared to the standard GA and First Fit Decreasing (FFD) algorithm. The findings reveals a 8% energy savings for our GA compared to FFD and a 66% reduction in our GA execution time compared to the standard GA for virtualised data centres. The simulation experiments are conducted on small-, medium- and large-scale of the google data centre to demonstrate the effectiveness of our GA. © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Restricted by their energy storage mechanism,current energy storage devices have certain drawbacks,such as low power density for batteries and low energy density for ***,the nearest ion capacitors,such as lithium-ion and sodium-ion capacitors containing battery-type and capacitor-type electrodes,may allow achieving both high energy and power *** the inspiration,a new zinc-ion capacitor(ZIC)has been designed and realized by assembling the free-standing manganese dioxide-carbon nanotubes(MnO2-CNTs)battery-type cathode and MXene(Ti3C2Tx)capacitortype anode in an aqueous *** ZIC can avoid the insecurity issues that frequently occurred in lithium-ion and sodium-ion capacitors in organic *** expected,the ZIC in an aqueous liquid electrolyte exhibits excellent electrochemical performance(based on the total weight of cathode and anode),such as a high specific capacitance of 115.1 F g?1(1 mV s?1),high energy density of 98.6 Wh kg?1(77.5 W kg?1),high power density of 2480.6 W kg?1(29.7 Wh kg?1),and high capacitance retention of^83.6%of its initial capacitance(15,000 cycles).Even in an aqueous gel electrolyte,the ZIC also exhibits excellent *** work provides an essential strategy for designing next-generation high-performance energy storage devices.

A number of machine learning (ML) approaches for drug discovery have been available that rely only on sequential (1D) and planar (2D) information without effectively using the 3D information for generating features of drugs. However, 3D information of small molecules can reflect relative position of atoms more directly, which affects molecular properties. In this work, we present a new deep learning model called Drug3D-DTI for drug-target interaction prediction. Drug3D-DTI takes advantage of molecular spatial information, i.e., atom proximity in three-dimensional (3D) structures. We comprehensively evaluated the performance of Drug3D-DTI on two datasets with two tasks of regression and classification. In particular, we compared Drug3D-DTI with several existing methods including the two cutting-edge methods for compound-protein interaction prediction. From the experimental results, Drug3D-DTI clearly outperformed other methods under all settings. Further, this performance improvement was validated by ablation experiments and a case study.
