A rhombus shaped wearable textile patch antenna with inset-fed concept for sub-6 GHz 5G is proposed in this paper. By introducing rhombus-shape structure for the first time in the wearable antenna domain, the gain of the antenna has been enhanced significantly. The Felt substrate used has relative permittivity of 1.45 and thickness of 3 mm. The proposed antenna with a total size of 60 mm × 57 mm operated at n78 and n77 band of the sub-6 GHz with overall bandwidth of 300 MHz when placed on-body and gain value of 5.099 dBi when bent at 30° in free space. Besides, the antenna was robust in operating at the desired frequency at bending and fully wet condition. The proposed antenna achieved good directional radiation patterns, low SAR value and high antenna gain at the desired frequency band. The proposed design can be a valuable candidate for body-centric wearable communications. © 2024 IEEE.

In modern electrical grids DC voltage is becoming more widely spread. In addition to the need of coupling DC networks with the existing AC grids, DC networks of different voltage levels must be coupled with each other. In coupling installations, the insulation system is stressed by a superimposed AC+DC voltage. This leads not only to the higher electric field strength in the insulation, but also to accumulation of space charges in solid insulation caused by the DC voltage. The space charges create the electric field of their own which can influence the resulting electric field and the breakdown voltage. The goal of this study is to evaluate the influence of the accumulation of space and surface charges under AC and DC voltage on the dielectric strength of an epoxy-air interface under superimposed DC+AC 50 Hz stress. The results show that the dielectric strength under AC+DC stress depends on the value of the DC voltage. At the same time the surface charge distribution under AC+DC and pure DC stress is different. The higher the AC component, the lower the charge density. Approaches to quantify the influence of space charges on the electric field distribution using COMSOL Multiphysics were considered. © The Institution of Engineering & Technology 2023.

Surface charges on the solid barriers and insulation of grounded metal parts of high voltage installations under HVDC and HVDC with superimposed lightning impulse influence the breakdown voltage as well as the discharge mechanism itself. The time dependent figure and development of a discharge in an epoxy-air interface with positive and negative surface charges was the aim of this investigation. The evaluation of high-speed camera recordings enables fundamental statements to be made about the development of a breakdown influenced by discharge of surface charge.

Solid dielectrics are often used as a barrier on grounded metal parts of electric apparatus. This insulation barrier can be charged under DC and mixed voltages, which leads to changes in electric field distribution and as a result it affects the breakdown voltage. The goal of this study is to investigate the dielectric strength of a needle-plate electrode arrangement with a barrier on the plate electrode under low frequency AC+DC voltage in presence of surface charges of different polarities on the barrier.

This work focuses on the switchable beam parasitic patch antenna for the point to point communication system. This concept gives more flexibility due to their ability to modify the radiation and providing multiple functionalities. This work focuses on two points directly to minimize the number of PIN Diode and to maximize its reconfiguration capabilities. First, the concept of two parasitic element is addressed. The mutual coupling effect between both driven and parasitic has manage to steer the beam to-28{\mathrm{o}}, \ 0{\mathrm{o}} and +28o different angles in a single layer. The design consists of four parasitic elements with full ground and four pin diode switch HPND-4005, five different directions have been reached which are-450,-30{\mathrm{o}}, \ 0{\mathrm{o}}+30{\mathrm{o}} and +450. The parasitic patch antenna has achieved high gain of 8. 92dBi at 5.8 GHz with the beam ability to steer unti145o for both side of the parasitic element. © 2020 IEEE.

This paper presents a pattern reconfigurable antenna for wide beam steering applications at the 9.5 GHz band. The beam steering performance is based on the combination of a Yagi-Uda antenna and its complimenting top pixel structure. The integration of this driven antenna element with its parasitic elements is capable of providing steering of up to ±40° (at -40°, 0° and +40°). However, with the added combination of a reconfigurable pixel array on top, the steering angle of the antenna can then be improved to -45°, 0° and +45°, and with measured gains of between 6.5 and 7.5 dBi. A factor critical in enabling the added beam steering capability is the control of the mutual coupling within the bottom antenna array and the top pixel layer. Results indicate that the proposed antenna could be useful for X-Band radar and other applications that require beam steering.

In this article, a microwave planar sensor based on a single octagonal split-ring resonator is presented, which can work in the millimeter-wave band. The usefulness of the millimeter-wave band can offer high sensitivity to liquids and low conductivity to impurities in the material under test (MUT). The microwave planar sensor is composed of a single octagonal-shaped connected by two strip lines on the top of the substrate and a full ground plane at the back. It has a length of 22 mm and a width of 10 mm. The purposed of the microwave planar sensor is to detect the change of the dielectric constant value of the liquid solution. The numerical results demonstrate that when a MUT with a higher permittivity value is placed in the gap, the S21 response shifts to a lower frequency band. Hence, the presented microwave planar sensor based on a single octagon-shaped split-ring resonator can provide a feasible approach with excellent sensitivity and can detect the permittivity of several liquid solutions in the millimeter-wave band.
