Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) technologies are used to automate the deployment of cloud applications. They promote the usage of code to define and configure the IT infrastructure of cloud applications allowing them to benefit from conventional software development practices, which facilitates the rapid deployment of new versions of application infrastructures without sacrificing quality or stability. On the other hand, enterprise applications need to conform to compliance regarding external regulations and internal policies. Many of these compliance rules affect the application architecture on which IaC code operates. However, managing the architectural compliance of IaC-based application deployments faces a number of challenges, such as configuration drift and the heterogeneity of IaC technologies. Therefore, in this work, we present a vision on how to uniformly manage the compliance of the infrastructure of applications that utilize heterogeneous IaC technologies for deployment automation. To this end, we introduce an initial design for the IaC-based Architectural Compliance Management Framework and discuss how it addresses the corresponding challenges.

In this paper, a novel chatbot for risk reduction as an aid during machinery design is presented. The general workflow of the chatbot involves the identification of the hazard described by the user using a neural network model followed by an interactive dialog based conversation, in which the risk reduction measures are outlined. A prototype implementation of the chatbot presents the steps to generate and pre-process the training data for Artificial Intelligence (AI) based models. Different neural network models are trained and evaluated for the proposed risk reduction chatbot. A comparative study is presented by employing an in-depth qualitative and quantitative evaluation. The work presented in this paper shows significant promise in ensuring safety awareness, thereby aiding in implementing functional safety in the early stages of machinery design and development.

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in machinery functional safety can enhance efficiency and accuracy by automating tasks previously carried out by humans. This paper presents an experimental evaluation of Neural Network (NN) models for hazard identification in machinery functional safety. The systematic study includes own implementations of NN models using open source building blocks and the use of an open source conversational AI framework with various pipeline configurations. The paper provides a comparative analysis of the qualitative and quantitative parameters for the models and configurations.

On the understandability of coupling-related practices in infrastructure-as-code based deployments

Infrastructure as Code (IaC) empowers software developers and operations teams to automate the deployment and management of IT infrastructure through code. This is particularly valuable for continuously released deployments such as microservices and cloud-based systems. IaC technologies offer flexibility in provisioning and deploying application architectures. However, if the structure is not well-designed, it can lead to severe issues related to coupling aspects. Unfortunately, a lack of comprehensive coupling guidelines for IaC makes ensuring adherence to best practices challenging. Leveraging IaC-based models, metrics, and source code can enhance the comprehension and implementation of coupling measures. Our objective was to investigate how developers understand information derived from system source code and compare it to formal IaC system diagrams and metrics. We conducted a controlled experiment involving a group of participants to evaluate the understandability of IaC system architecture descriptions through source code inspection and formal representations. We hypothesized that providing formal IaC system diagrams and metrics as supplementary materials would improve the understanding of IaC coupling-related practices measured by task correctness . We also expected that these supplementary resources would lead to a significant increase in task duration and that there would be a notable correlation between correctness and duration . The results suggest that including formal IaC system diagrams and metrics as supplementary materials significantly enhances the comprehension of IaC coupling-related practices, as indicated by task correctness . Moreover, providing these formal representations does not significantly prolong task duration , indicating that they do not hinder understanding. A substantial correlation between task correctness and duration is evident when formal IaC system diagrams and metrics are available.

The collaborative approach which are born OER (Open Educational Resource) is the joint search for pedagogical and technological challenges to achieve improved quality reconstruction. Reliable modeling of river sediments transport is important as it is a defining factor of the economic viability of dams, the durability of hydroelectric-equipment, river susceptibility to pollution, suitability for navigation, and potential for aesthetics and fish habitat. The capability of a new machine learning model, fuzzy c-means based neuro-fuzzy system calibrated using the hybrid particle swarm optimization-gravitational search algorithm（ANFIS-FCM-PSOGSA） in improving the estimation accuracy of river suspended sediment loads（SSLs） is investigated in the current study. The outcomes of the proposed method were compared with those obtained using the fuzzy c-means based neuro-fuzzy system calibrated using particle swarm optimization（ANFIS-FCM-PSO）, ANFIS-FCM, and sediment rating curve（SRC） models. Various input combinations involving lagged river flow（Q） and suspended sediment（S） values were used for model development. The effect of Q and S on the model's accuracy also was assessed by including the difference between lagged Q and S values as inputs. The model performance was assessed using the root mean square error（RMSE）, mean absolute error（MAE）, Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency（NSE）, and coefficient of determination（R2） and several graphical comparison methods. The results showed that the proposed model enhanced the prediction performance of the ANFIS-FCM-PSO（or ANFIS-FCM） models by 8.14%（1.72%）, 14.7%（5.71%）, 12.5%（2.27%）, and 25.6%（1.86%）,in terms of the RMSE, MAE, NSE and R2, respectively. The current study established the potential of the proposed ANFIS-FCM-PSOGSA model for simulation of the cumulative sediment load. The modeling results revealed the potential effects of the river flow lags on the sediment transport quantification.

Microservices are one of the most recommended architectural styles for distributed applications that support independent development and deployment, enable rapid release, and are highly scalable and polyglot. Many well-established patterns and best practices have been documented in the literature. As there are many such guidances, they have numerous interdependencies, and system designs must adhere to many other architecture constraints, too, implementations do not always conform to those guidances. In complex or large systems, it can be hard and tedious to spot violations. Our work aims to offer automated support for architecting during the continuous evolution of microservice-based systems. More specifically we aim to provide the foundations for an automated approach for architecture reconstruction, assessing conformance to patterns and practices specific for microservice architectures, and detect possible violations. Based on this, we provide actionable options to architects for improving architecture conformance as part of a continuous feedback loop. That is, our goal is to support architecting in the context of continuous delivery practices, where architecture violations are continuously analyzed and fix options are continuously suggested.

User acceptance testing (UAT) is the process that validates the system under test (SUT) behaves according to the business requirements. A User would use the graphical user interface to interact with the underlying code. With the improvement of various devices, end-user testing has become even more complex and time consuming. Every user has a unique interaction pattern. Due to this expected test coverage would not be met by focusing only on the functionality itself. This research is to address the issue of UAT test automation coverage and reduce defect leakage in production environments. The proposed automation solution is to identify more defects in the UAT static testing phase and make the system under test more user friendly before handing the product to the consumers. The proposed solution use Machine learning approach to identify user behaviors that does not match the proposed new functionality. The proposed AD-PU model would evaluate non-prominent user behaviours as per perceived usefulness which would effect the decision to accept the functionality as user acceptable or not.
