This one-day hybrid workshop builds on previous feminist CSCW workshops to explore feminist theoretical and methodological approaches that have provided us with useful tools to see things differently and make space for change. Since its inception over a decade ago, feminist HCI has progressed from the margins to mainstream HCI, with numerous references in the literature. Feminist HCI has also evolved to incorporate other critical HCI practices such as Queer HCI, participatory design, and speculative design. While feminist approaches have grown in popularity and become mainstream, it is getting more difficult to distinguish the feminist emancipatory core from other attempts of developing and improving society in various ways. In this workshop, we therefore want to revisit our feminist roots, where theory is a liberatory and creative practice, motivated by affect, curiosity, and wonder. From this standpoint, we consider which of our feminist tools can make a significant difference today, in a highly datafied world. The goal of this workshop is to;1) create an inventory of feminist theories and concepts that have had an impact on our work as designers, educators, researchers, and activists;2) develop a feminist toolbox for the CSCW community to strengthen our feminist literacy. © 2023 Owner/Author.

The Microservice API Patterns (MAP) language and supporting website premiered under this name at Microservices 2019. MAP distills proven, platform- and technology-independent solutions to recurring (micro-)service design and interface specification problems such as finding well-fitting service granularities, rightsizing message representations, and managing the evolution of APIs and their implementations. In this paper, we motivate the need for such a pattern language, outline the language organization and present two exemplary patterns describing alternative options for representing nested data. The inspection of products and assessment of quality is connected with high costs and time effort in many industrial domains. This also applies to the forestry industry. Utilizing state-of-the-art deep learning models allows automizing the analysis of wooden piles in a vision-based manner. In this work, a parallel two-step approach is presented for the segmentation and multi-facet classification of individual logs, according to the wood type and quality. The present approach is based on a preliminary log localization step and like this allows determining the quality, volume and also the value of individual logs, respectively the whole wooden pile. Using a YOLOv4 model for wood species classification for douglas firs, pines and larches results in an accuracy of 74.53%, while a quality classification model for spruce logs reaches 86.58%. In addition to that, the trained U-NET segmentation model reaches an accuracy of 93%. In the future, the underlying data set and models will be further improved and integrated to a mobile application for the on site analysis of wooden piles by foresters. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In the vast expanse of global travel, the intricate web of interconnected airline networks serves as the lifeline of modern aviation. Amidst the bustling realm of global aviation, where time and resources are of the essence, the optimization of airline networks emerges as a paramount pursuit, unleashing the power to streamline operations, enhance connectivity, and elevate the travel experience for passengers worldwide. In this paper, four prominent graph-based algorithms, namely A*, Bellman-Ford, bidirectional search, and Dijkstra’s algorithm, were used and compared for optimization of airline networks. These algorithms leverage the inherent structure of the airways network, represented as a graph, to determine the most efficient routes. By evaluating the execution times, path lengths, and complexities of these algorithms, this research equips the airline industry with valuable insights for optimizing airways path-finding. With optimized path-finding, the skies become more navigable, fostering a seamless travel experience for passengers and bolstering the economic growth driven by the aviation sector.

Remote Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), as for instance offered in microservices architectures, are used in almost any distributed system today and are thus enablers for many digitalization efforts. It is hard to design such APIs so that they are easy and effective to use;maintaining their runtime qualities while preserving backward compatibility is equally challenging. Finding well suited granularities in terms of the architectural capabilities of endpoints and the read-write semantics of their operations are particularly important design concerns. Existing pattern languages have dealt with local APIs in object-oriented programming, with remote objects, with queue-based messaging and with service-oriented computing platforms. However, patterns or equivalent guidances for the architectural design of API endpoints, operations and their request and response message structures are still missing. In this paper, we extend our microservice API pattern language (MAP) and introduce endpoint role and operation responsibility patterns, namely Processing Resource, Computation Function, State Creation Operation, Retrieval Operation, and State Transition Operation. Known uses and examples of the patterns are drawn from public Web APIs, as well as application development and system integration projects the authors have been involved in. © 2020 ACM.

Remote Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) are used in almost any distributed system today, for instance in microservices-based systems, and are thus enablers for many digitalization efforts. API design not only impacts whether software provided as a service is easy and efficient to develop applications with, but also affects the long term evolution of the software system. In general, APIs are responsible for providing remote and controlled access to the functionality provided as services;however, APIs often are also used to expose and share information. We focus on such data-related aspects of microservice APIs in this paper. Depending on the life cycle of the information published through the API, its mutability and the endpoint role, data-oriented APIs can be designed following patterns such as Operational Data Holder, Master Data Holder, Reference Data Holder, Data Transfer Holder, and Link Lookup Resource. Known uses and examples of the patterns are drawn from public Web APIs as well as application development and integration projects we have been involved in. © 2020 ACM.

This work clarified the conventional/phase shift dual Mach-Zehnder modulation measured technique for upgrading radio over fiber (ROF) systems. Four levels of pulse amplitude modulation and non-return to zero code scheme are employed in different previous studies for upgrading ROF systems. The possible transmission distance is extended to 150 km and a bit rate of 40 Gb/s for achieved acceptable max. Q factor of 13.7498 and minimum bit error rates of 1.82×10-43. The total optical received power is measured at fiber cable length for maximum distance. Also, in the same way, the signal power levels are measured after fiber optic cable and avalanche photo detector optical receiver. The proposed model has presented the enhancement percentage ratio of 13.654% over the previous models in signal quality enhancement. © 2020 Walter de Gruyter GmbH, Berlin/Boston.

Wind speed (WS) has played a vital role in local urban and sub-urban weather, agriculture, and ecosystem. Several meteorological parameters are influencing WS such as relative humidity (at 2 m, %), surface pressure (kPa), maximum temperature (at 2 m, °C), minimum temperature (at 2 m, °C), average temperature (at 2 m, °C), and all sky insolation incident on a horizontal surface (kW-h/m2/day). The current research was conducted to predict WS at different locations at Vietnam using the feasibility of computer aid models (i.e., multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS), extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) and random forest generator (Ranger)). Pearson correlation (PC) was investigated to select the high significant predictors to predict the WS at 10 m high. All inputs (maximum number, 6) are chosen by the PC approach for PhuongNinh, DaNang, and HaNoi;and for minimum number of inputs i.e four, are selected for PhuongHung, CanTho, and SaPa city;that exhibit the relationship with WS, citywise. The sequence selection of input parameters differed in each station as per the PC analysis. Based on the statistical evaluation and graphical presentation, MARS model attained the best prediction results, followed by XGBoost and Ranger. MARS predictive model remains at the top performance among others based on 95% confidence interval. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

The notion to digitally articulate, execute, and enforce agreements with smart contracts has become a feasible reality today. Smart contracts have the potential to vastly improve the efficiency and security of traditional contracts through their self-executing autonomy. To realize smart contracts several blockchain-based ecosystems exist. Today a prominent representative is Ethereum. Its programming language Solidity is used to capture and express contractual clauses in the form of code. However, due to the conceptual discrepancy between contractual clauses and corresponding code, it is hard for domain stakeholders to easily understand contracts, and for developers to write code efficiently without errors. Our research addresses these issues by the design and study of a domain-specific smart contract language based on higher level of abstraction that can be automatically transformed to an implementation. In particular, we propose a clause grammar close to natural language, helpful coding abstractions, and the automatic integration of commonly occurring design patterns during code generation. Through these measures, our approach can reduce the design complexity leading to an increased comprehensibility and reduced error susceptibility. Several implementations of exemplary smart contract scenarios, mostly taken from the Solidity documentation, are used to demonstrate the applicability of our approach.
