Terahertz (THz) band communication has been widely studied to meet the future demand for ultra-high capacity. In addition, multi-input multi-output (MIMO) technique and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technique with multi-antenna also enable the network to carry more users and provide multiplexing gain. In this paper, we study the maximization of energy efficiency (EE) problem in THz-NOMA-MIMO systems for the first time. And the original optimization problem is divided into user clustering, hybrid precoding and power optimization. Based on channel correlation characteristics, a fast convergence scheme for user clustering in THz-NOMA-MIMO system using enhanced K-means machine learning algorithm is proposed. Considering the power consumption and implementation complexity, the hybrid precoding scheme based on the sub-connection structure is adopted. Considering the fronthaul link capacity constraint, we design a distributed alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) algorithm for power allocation to maximize the EE of THz-NOMA cache-enabled system with imperfect successive interference cancellation (SIC). The simulation results show that the proposed user clustering scheme can achieve faster convergence and higher EE, the design of the hybrid precoding of the sub-connection structure can achieve lower power consumption and power optimization can achieve a higher EE for the THz cache-enabled network. © 1983-2012 IEEE.

Coded distributed computing (CDC) has emerged as a promising approach because it enables computation tasks to be carried out in a distributed manner while mitigating straggler effects, which often account for the long overall completion times. Specifically, by using polynomial codes, computed results from only a subset of edge servers can be used to reconstruct the final result. However, incentive issues have not been studied systematically for the edge servers to complete the CDC tasks. In this paper, we propose a tractable two-level game-theoretic approach to incentivize the edge servers to complete the CDC tasks. Specifically, in the lower level, a hedonic coalition formation game is formulated where the edge servers share their resources within their coalitions. By forming coalitions, the edge servers have more Central Processing Unit (CPU) power to complete the computation tasks. In the upper level, given the CPU power of the coalitions of edge servers, an all-pay auction is designed to incentivize the edge servers to participate in the CDC tasks. In the all-pay auction, the bids of the edge servers are represented by the allocation of their CPU power to the CDC tasks. The all-pay auction is designed to maximize the utility of the cloud server by determining the allocation of rewards to the winners. Simulation results show that the edge servers are incentivized to allocate more CPU power when multiple rewards are offered, i.e., there are multiple winners, instead of rewarding only the edge server with the largest CPU power allocation. Besides, the utility of the cloud server is maximized when it offers multiple homogeneous rewards, instead of heterogeneous rewards. © 2021, CC0.

Accurate ocean dynamics modeling is crucial for enhancing understanding of ocean circulation, predicting climate variability, and tackling challenges posed by climate change. Despite improvements in traditional numerical models, predicting global ocean variability over multi-year scales remains challenging. Here, we propose ORCA-DL (Oceanic Reliable foreCAst via Deep Learning), the first data-driven 3D ocean model for seasonal to decadal prediction of global ocean circulation. ORCA-DL accurately simulates three-dimensional ocean dynamics and outperforms state-of-the-art dynamical models in capturing extreme events, including El Niño-Southern Oscillation and upper ocean heatwaves. This demonstrates the high potential of data-driven models for efficient and accurate global ocean forecasting. Moreover, ORCA-DL stably emulates ocean dynamics at decadal timescales, demonstrating its potential even for skillful decadal predictions and climate projections. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. In order to construct a battlefield microwave network topology with high reliability, low power, and low interference, a topology construction algorithm is proposed in this paper. While satisfying the requirements for network-connectivity and network-disjoint-paths, the algorithm uses the reliability of two nodes and the whole network as the evaluation index, so that transmission power is greatly reduced. Simulation results show that this algorithm can effectively reduce both the node power and redundant network topology compared with k-connected network topology construction algorithm. © 2019, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Natural rubber (NR) is extensively used in many applications. Although NR has been successfully processed using molding techniques, the production costs are still high due to machine and mold manufacturing. Moreover, it is not easy to form a complex structure. Recently, 3-dimensional (3D) printing has become a key technique for shaping complex products with no mold. Consequently, it has led to more inexpensive equipment and various alternative materials. Among the 3D printing materials, there is little published data on NR manufacturing. Therefore, 3D printing of rubber latex was proposed, and the vulcanizing procedure was also investigated. To avoid a support structure in traditional printing, filling latex in several media was introduced. The observation was made that a supporting mixture including Carbopol™ and a vulcanizing agent showed formability of NR latex. The extrudate shape depended on the nozzle size, flow rate, and printing speed. Strength characterization of filament obtained from different curing methods showed insignificant differences.

Agricultural land classification is a crucial and demanding task, essential for managing resources and tracking changes in farming activities. Remote sensing (RS) is an excellent technology for monitoring agricultural land and detecting seasonal fluctuations globally. Deep learning models offer promising prospects for crop monitoring. While traditional machine learning methods struggle to capture temporal variations in agricultural land efficiently. This study addresses the challenge of accurately classifying land cover and detecting year-to-year changes using a deep learning (DL)-based approach. The novelty of this research is an integration using a pixel-based deep neural network (PDNN) classifier, which will advance the classification abilities for identifying land cover classes. By comparing images taken over time, the PDNN can help identify different land cover efficiently. The thematic images using the PDNN were derived, and change detection was carried out by adopting a posterior probability space (PPS)-based change detection. The application of the proposed model is demonstrated using the Landsat-9 dataset over Moga District, Punjab, India. Compared to the random forest (RF) and support vector machine (SVM), the PDNN model achieved great performance. While PDNN had an accuracy ranging from 90.6 % to 93.6 %, RF and SVM had lower accuracies, with RF ranging between 86.8 % and 92.2 % and SVM between 88 % and 92.4 %. The PDNN model also excelled in detecting changes in land cover, showing an accuracy between 87.4 % and 90 %, while RF achieved 82.9 %–86.2 % and SVM ranged from 79 % to 83.9 %. The proposed model was adept at capturing changes in agricultural land cover, such as year-to-year variations. The PDNN model demonstrated superior proficiency in capturing seasonal and year-to-year variations in agricultural land cover, effectively identifying subtle transitions in crop cycles. This study proposes a novel end-to-end, geospatial and computer vision machine learning pipeline designed to estimate the suitability of geographic areas to affect community health through newly constructed healthcare facilities. The proposed multimodal model integrates several geographic features such as population density, landcover, elevation, and road networks along with the coordinates of current healthcare facilities to identify suitable locations through multi-scalar geospatial features. The proposed approach introduces novel transformations where features are passed as configurable images tiles to overcome the limitations of traditional geospatial analysis. The study utilizes an enhanced version of the OpenStreetMap humanitarian data layer for healthcare facilities, which was filtered based on building footprint, facility name, and online presence to focus on larger facilities and manually verified against government databases to ensure comprehensive coverage. Although the multimodal approach is model-agnostic, the proposed implementation utilizes a Light Gradient Boosted Trees Classifier with Early Stopping for the learning algorithm. This architecture combines the effectiveness of gradient boosting, and features that understand spatial proximity to achieve better accuracy in the classification of multimodal data. The outcome of this study indicates that the proposed model can predict suitable areas for facility construction, thereby facilitating decision-making and future planning in the healthcare sector.

In tissue engineering, e-skin patches serve as wearable wound dressings for healing. In this study, electrospun nanofiber composites were developed by integrating PMMA, MXene, and chitosan (CS) to fabricate multifunctional e-skin scaffolds. The resulting PMMA–MXene–CS composite e-skin scaffolds exhibited a uniform fibrous morphology with average diameters of 600 ± 50 nm and high porosity (>85 %), providing an optimal microenvironment for tissue interfacing. Mechanical testing revealed that the PMMX:CS composite e-skin scaffold achieved a tensile strength of 13 MPa, a Young's modulus of 0.38 GPa, and elongation at break of 200 %, representing increases of 225 %, 36 %, and 43 %, respectively, over pure PMMA. Dielectric spectroscopy demonstrated a minimal loss tangent (<0.05) across 10–100 kHz and a built-in potential of 1.19 V, while electrochemical impedance measurements showed a charge-transfer resistance of 1.38 kΩ and a low leakage current, indicating excellent signal fidelity for sensing applications. Thermal conductivity tests under 10 GPa pressure yielded 28 W/m·K, ensuring rapid heat dissipation. Antimicrobial assays against Escherichia coli , Staphylococcus aureus , and Candida albicans confirmed inhibition rates of 95 %, 92 %, and 99 %, respectively, significantly outperforming control samples. Furthermore, antibacterial assays also demonstrated broad-spectrum efficacy, with inhibition zones up to 27.8 mm against Streptococcus pneumoniae and 26.4 mm against Listeria monocytogenes , and zones exceeding 25 mm for both Gram-negative and Gram-positive pathogens. Thus, obtained results revealed that the combination of PMMA, MXene and CS significantly enhanced inhibition against gram-negative bacteria compared to the control groups. In this work, the applicability of structural health monitoring (SHM) technique for damage detection in two composite mono-stringers representative of composite fuselage are investigated. The two different manufacturing technologies are co-curing and co-bonding of composite mono-stringers to the skin. The panels were then impacted at the foot of the stringer to cause Barely Visible Impact Damage (BVID). Piezoelectric transducers were surface mounted on the mono-stringers, guided wave measurements before and after impact were taken and used for detecting damage based on Weighted Energy Arrival Method (WEAM). © 2020 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland.

Satellite Federated Fine-Tuning for Foundation Models in Space Computing Power Networks

Advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites have promoted the application of large remote sensing foundation models for various downstream tasks. However, direct downloading of these models for fine-tuning on the ground is impeded by privacy concerns and limited bandwidth. Satellite federated learning (FL) offers a solution by enabling model fine-tuning directly on-board satellites and aggregating model updates without data downloading. Nevertheless, for large foundation models, the computational capacity of satellites is insufficient to support effective on-board fine-tuning in traditional satellite FL frameworks. To address these challenges, we propose a satellite-ground collaborative federated fine-tuning framework. The key of the framework lies in how to reasonably decompose and allocate model components to alleviate insufficient on-board computation capabilities. During fine-tuning, satellites exchange intermediate results with ground stations or other satellites for forward propagation and back propagation, which brings communication challenges due to the special communication topology of space transmission networks, such as intermittent satellite-ground communication, short duration of satellite-ground communication windows, and unstable inter-orbit inter-satellite links (ISLs). To reduce transmission delays, we further introduce tailored communication strategies that integrate both communication and computing resources. Specifically, we propose a parallel intra-orbit communication strategy, a topology-aware satellite-ground communication strategy, and a latency-minimalization inter-orbit communication strategy to reduce space communication costs.
