The use of electronic textbooks (e-book) has been heavily studied over the years due to their flexibility, accessibility, interactivity and extensibility. Yet current shortcomings of e-book, which is often just a digitized version of the original book, does not encourage adoption. Consequently, this leads to a rethinking of e-book that should incorporate current technologies to augment its capabilities, where inclusion of information search and organization tools have shown to be favorable. This paper is on a preliminary work to add intelligence into such tools in terms of information retrieval. Construction of knowledge graph for e-book material with little overhead is first introduced. Information retrieval through typed similarity query is then performed via random walk. ABSTRACTIn a short span of time since its introduction, generative artificial intelligence (AI) has garnered much interest at both personal and organizational levels. This is because of its potential to cause drastic and widespread shifts in many aspects of life that are comparable to those of the Internet and smartphones. More specifically, generative AI utilizes machine learning, neural networks, and other techniques to generate new content (e.g. text, images, music) by analyzing patterns and information from the training data. This has enabled generative AI to have a wide range of applications, from creating personalized content to improving business operations. Despite its many benefits, there are also significant concerns about the negative implications of generative AI. In view of this, the current article brings together experts in a variety of fields to expound and provide multi-disciplinary insights on the opportunities, challenges, and research agendas of generative AI in specific industries (i.e. marketing, healthcare, human resource, education, banking, retailing, the workplace, manufacturing, and sustainable IT management).

Despite substantial declines since 2000, lower respiratory infections (LRIs), diarrhoeal diseases, and malaria remain among the leading causes of nonfatal and fatal disease burden for children under 5 years of age (under 5), primarily in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). The spatial burden of each of these diseases has been estimated subnationally across SSA, yet no prior analyses have examined the pattern of their combined burden. Here we synthesise subnational estimates of the burden of LRIs, diarrhoea, and malaria in children under-5 from 2000 to 2017 for 43 sub-Saharan countries. Some units faced a relatively equal burden from each of the three diseases, while others had one or two dominant sources of unit-level burden, with no consistent pattern geographically across the entire subcontinent. Using a subnational counterfactual analysis, we show that nearly 300 million DALYs could have been averted since 2000 by raising all units to their national average. Our findings are directly relevant for decision-makers in determining which and targeting where the most appropriate interventions are for increasing child survival. © 2022, The Author(s).

Towards a viewpoint-specific metamodel for model-driven development of microservice architecture

Microservice Architecture (MSA) is a service-based architectural style with a strong emphasis on high cohesion and loose coupling. It is commonly regarded as a descendant of Service-oriented Architecture (SOA) and thus might draw on existing findings of SOA research. This paper presents a metamodel for Model-driven Development (MDD) of MSA, which is deduced from existing SOA modeling approaches, but also incorporates MSA-specific modeling concepts. It is divided into the three viewpoints Data, Service and Operation, each of which encapsulates concepts related to a certain aspect of MSA. Microservice Architecture (MSA) denotes an emerging architectural style for distributed and service-based systems whereby each microservice is highly cohesive and implements a single business capability. A microservice system consists of multiple, loosely coupled microservices. It provides complex capabilities through services interacting in choreographies. A single dedicated team, typically practicing DevOps, is responsible for each microservice, i.e., it "owns" the service. However, while systems relying on MSA have several architectural advantages especially for cloud applications, their realization is characterized by an increased accidental complexity due to redundant handcrafting of implementation, e.g., to make each service standalone runnable. A promising way to cope with such complexity is the usage of Model-driven Development (MDD) whereby models are used as first-class entities in the software development process. Although there are already first steps taken on how MDD could be applied by a single team to implement its microservices, the question of how MDD can be adapted to MSA's development distribution across multiple teams remains an issue. In this paper we envision the application of Collaborative Model-driven Software engineering (CMDSE) to MDD of MSA by surveying relevant characteristics of CMDSE and identifying challenges for its application to MSA. A search for W′ bosons decaying to a top and a bottom quark in final states including an electron or a muon is performed with the CMS detector at the LHC. The analyzed data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb⁻¹ of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. Good agreement with the standard model expectation is observed and no evidence for the existence of the W′ boson is found over the mass range examined. The largest observed deviation from the standard model expectation is found for a W′ boson mass (mW_′) hypothesis of 3.8 TeV with a relative decay width of 1%, with a local (global) significance of 2.6 (2.0) standard deviations. Upper limits on the production cross sections of W′ bosons decaying to a top and a bottom quark are set. Left- and right-handed W′ bosons with mW_′ below 3.9 and 4.3 TeV, respectively, are excluded at the 95% confidence level, under the assumption that the new particle has a narrow decay width. Limits are also set for relative decay widths up to 30%. © The Author(s) 2024.

The polarization of τ leptons is measured using leptonic and hadronic τ lepton decays in Z → τ⁺ τ⁻ events in proton-proton collisions at (Formula presented.) recorded by CMS at the CERN LHC with an integrated luminosity of 36.3 fb⁻¹. The measured τ⁻ lepton polarization at the Z boson mass pole is P_τ(Z) = −0.144 ± 0.006 (stat) ± 0.014 (syst) = −0.144 ± 0.015, in good agreement with the measurement of the τ lepton asymmetry parameter of A_τ = 0.1439 ± 0.0043 = − P_τ(Z) at LEP. The τ lepton polarization depends on the ratio of the vector to axial-vector couplings of the τ leptons in the neutral current expression, and thus on the effective weak mixing angle sin² θWeff , independently of the Z boson production mechanism. The obtained value sin² θWeff = 0.2319 ± 0.0008(stat) ± 0.0018(syst) = 0.2319 ± 0.0019 is in good agreement with measurements at e⁺ e⁻ colliders. With the rapid development of electric power industry and the expansion of power grid scale, more and more attentions have been paid to the safe operation of electrical equipment. The target recognition method we used now couldn’t recognize power transformer well, which is based on gray information. In this paper, a transformer identification algorithm based on improved Hu moment invariants is proposed. The transformer identification algorithm proposed in this paper has the advantages of good recognition effect and high recognition accuracy. The correctness and feasibility of the proposed algorithm have been verified by experiments. © 2018, Springer International Publishing AG.
