Web services are service-oriented computing technology which allows computers running different operating domains to access and share each other’s databases. Each web service is an application (like online business) which may require the private information of users. Thus, it will be important to preserve these web users’ individual privacy. The traditional approaches to achieve this goal in web security is to use the cryptographic technologies, such as digital signature, NIZK proof system. Whereas, some recent research results indicate that these cryptographic technologies may suffer from the algorithm substitution attack (ASA). ASA means that the cryptographic technology would be embedded some backdoor in the process of its implementation by the attacker, and with the backdoor information the attacker can steal the user’s private information. To address this problem, the concept of cryptographic reverse firewall (CRF) has been introduced, which could sanitize the messages inputting and outputting the user’s computer. In this paper, we construct the CRFs for the efficient Pointcheval-Sanders (PS) signature as well as the NIZK proof system. © 2023, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

After the Transformer model demonstrated excellent performance in natural language processing (NLP) tasks and computer vision tasks, people have started to explore the use of Transformer models in the field of time series prediction. Because of the significant role of the stock market in the global economy, stock market prediction is of paramount importance for investors. Stock indices forecasting is one of the fields of stock market forecasting and researchers have also set their sights on Transformer. However, with limited semantic information available in time series data and the unique characteristics of the self-attention mechanism, the Transformer model has not gained widespread adoption in stock indices forecasting. In this paper, we propose a history window serialization based Transformer model (HWSformer) specifically designed for predicting stock price indices. Our innovation is to introduce the historical window serialization layer to solve the problem of limited semantic richness in time series data, which affects the validity of self-attention. Additionally, in order to capture the original distribution accurately and retain the valuable non-stationary information, we incorporate the Reversible Instance Normalization (RevIN) method. We conducted experiments on 12 stock price index datasets collected from multiple countries and demonstrated that HWSformer outperforms traditional Transformer models by approximately 20% and varying degrees of improvement compared to other recent variants of Transformers.

Data Augmentation in Graph Neural Networks: The Role of Generated Synthetic Graphs

Graphs are crucial for representing interrelated data and aiding predictive modeling by capturing complex relationships. Achieving high-quality graph representation is important for identifying linked patterns, leading to improvements in Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) to better capture data structures. However, challenges such as data scarcity, high collection costs, and ethical concerns limit progress. As a result, generative models and data augmentation have become more and more popular. This study explores using generated graphs for data augmentation, comparing the performance of combining generated graphs with real graphs, and examining the effect of different quantities of generated graphs on graph classification tasks. The experiments show that balancing scalability and quality requires different generators based on graph size. Our results introduce a new approach to graph data augmentation, ensuring consistent labels and enhancing classification performance. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The physical-virtual world synchronization to develop the Metaverse will require a massive transmission and exchange of data. In this paper, we introduce semantic communication for the development of virtual transportation networks in the Metaverse. Leveraging the perception capabilities of edge devices, virtual service providers (VSPs) can subscribe to their preferred edge devices to receive the semantic data of interest. However, the demands of the VSPs are highly dependent on the users that they are serving. To address the resource allocation problem amid stochastic user demand, we propose a stochastic semantic transmission scheme (SSTS) based on two-stage stochastic integer programming. Using real data captured by edge devices we deploy in Singapore, the simulation results show that SSTS can minimize the transmission cost of the VSPs while accounting for the users' demand uncertainties.

Formation of precipitates and their effects on the mechanical properties in a Fe–Mn–Al–C austenitic low-density steel

κ-carbides serve as a strengthening phase in Fe–Mn–Al–C austenitic low-density steels, enhancing yield strength but reducing the work hardening rate due to slip plane softening effect. To address this issue, this study introduces strong carbide-forming elements Ti and V to regulate carbon distribution and then control κ-carbide precipitation. Without Ti and V addition, κ-carbides uniformly precipitate in the matrix after aging, with an average size of 10.8 ± 6.2 nm and a volume fraction of 7.4 ± 3.4 %. The addition of Ti and V leads to the formation of (Ti, V)C carbides at high temperatures, which act as carbon sinks, reducing the matrix carbon content and thereby suppressing the homogeneous precipitation of κ-carbides. As a result, the κ-carbides precipitate at the edge of the (Ti, V)C carbides, with an average radius of 9.7 ± 8.5 nm and a volume fraction of 3.2 ± 2.8 %. Compared to the uniform precipitation of κ-carbides in low-density steel without Ti/V additions, this modified precipitation behavior preserves the work-hardening rate and increases the tensile strength from 1004 MPa to 1096 MPa. TEM analysis reveals that both steels exhibit planar slip deformation, but the Ti/V-modified steel shows narrower slip band spacing and more intense plastic deformation. This study establishes a novel microalloying strategy for optimizing precipitate distribution and mechanical properties in low-density steels.

This paper proposes a fusion model named FGCN-GRU (Fusion Graph Convolutional Neural network and Gated Recurrent Unit network) to predict users' ratings on items. Firstly, FGCN-GRU constructs a new graph convolutional neural network by regarding users' ratings on items as relative ratings and introduces the GRU network by considering the fact that the user’s interest in items will change over time. Then the improved graph convolutional neural network, GRU network and users' social network are used to model users, items, and social relations respectively. The experimental results on the datasets of Ciao and Epinions show that the recommendation performance of the proposed model is better.

The recommendation algorithms based on graph convolutional network can extract the association relationship between users and items by interaction data, but most of these algorithms ignore the general preferences in the review data of users and items. The recommendation algorithms based on convolutional neural network with review can learn user behaviors and item properties. In order to combine the advantages of two kinds of algorithm and make use of both review text data and user-item interaction data fully, we proposed a new model called Joint Graph Convolutional Network and Convolutional Neural Network for Recommendation (JGCR) in this paper. This model used the graph convolutional network to extract association relations, and used convolutional neural network to extract the general preferences from review text, and carried out feature fusion to improve the recommendation effect. This paper conducted comparative experiments on four datasets of amazon dataset to verify the effectiveness of the proposed model. The evaluation metric is mean square error. Experiments results demonstrate that JGCR significantly outperforms all baseline recommendation algorithms. The feature from jointing graph convolutional network and convolutional neural network can improve the recommendation effect.

Rapid urbanization contributes to impervious surface areas resulting in higher vulnerability to flooding and loss of green spaces. Recently, sustainable methods like nature-based solutions (NBS) are effectively being used to build resilient cities. These are practices derived from nature by emulating and regulating ecosystem services. Specifically, the adaptation of sponge city (SC) concept as part of NBS is being extensively used in growing cities to help mitigate impacts of development. This study focuses on difficulties encountered by Karachi, such as extreme weather occurrences and flooding. It examines the feasibility of implementing SC methods drawing inspiration from successfully implemented examples of China and Saudi Arabia. The outcomes indicate significance of incorporating NBS and adoption of SC elements in urban planning to provide remedies for Karachi's environmental challenges.

Mobile devices always cache numerous files during application runtime, which can be trimmed to improve the user experience. However, existing cache file trimming methods are unaware of the cleaning cost within the file system and storage devices, which degrades the system performance and storage lifetime, resulting in low benefits of trimming cache files. Motivated by this, an adaptive cache file trimming (CacheTrimmer) scheme is proposed to trim cache files for performance and lifetime improvement. The basic idea is to determine the trimming timing based on the cleaning cost of the file system and storage device, maximizing the benefit of trimming cache files. Specifically, CacheTrimmer includes two components: First, a cleaning cost-aware trimming method is proposed to trim cache files by recording the index information of cache files in a list and determining the timing and size of file trimming. Second, to avoid trimming-induced intra-segment fragmentation and improve trimming efficiency, a log-structured cache scheme is further proposed to maintain the cache files in separate segments. We prototype CacheTrimmer with a real mobile platform. Experimental results under real workloads show that CacheTrimmer achieves encourage performance and lifetime improvement compared to the state-of-the-art.
