Prior to the deep learning era, shape was commonly used to describe the objects. Nowadays, state-of-the-art (SOTA) algorithms in medical imaging are predominantly diverging from computer vision, where voxel grids, meshes, point clouds, and implicit surface models are used. This is seen from numerous shape-related publications in premier vision conferences as well as the growing popularity of ShapeNet (about 51,300 models) and Princeton ModelNet (127,915 models). For the medical domain, we present a large collection of anatomical shapes (e.g., bones, organs, vessels) and 3D models of surgical instrument, called MedShapeNet, created to facilitate the translation of data-driven vision algorithms to medical applications and to adapt SOTA vision algorithms to medical problems. As a unique feature, we directly model the majority of shapes on the imaging data of real patients. As of today, MedShapeNet includes 23 datasets with more than 100,000 shapes that are paired with annotations (ground truth). Our data is freely accessible via a web interface and a Python application programming interface (API) and can be used for discriminative, reconstructive, and variational benchmarks as well as various applications in virtual, augmented, or mixed reality, and 3D printing. Exemplary, we present use cases in the fields of classification of brain tumors, skull reconstructions, multi-class anatomy completion, education, and 3D printing. This work outlines technical specifications of the undersea fiber optic communication channel bandwidth, capacity with taken into account the maximum and minimum extended fiber cost in the presence of amplifiers stations. The number of amplifiers in the amplification stage are addressed based on the amplifier distance to strength the light signal in water depth after 5 km distance. The fiber channel capacity is estimated at different water depth and at the surface of the water. Minimum input signal power and required detectable received power are adjusted to ensure the high data rates in submarine cable systems under the best and worst conditions of the seawater pressure. The study emphasizes the high data rates transmission can be achieved at a distance of 10 km depth. © 2019 Walter de Gruyter GmbH, Berlin/Boston 2019.

software libraries, typically accessible through Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), enhance modularity and reduce development time. Nevertheless, their use reinforces system dependency on third-party software. When libraries become obsolete or their APIs change, performing the necessary modifications to dependent systems, can be time-consuming, labour intensive and error-prone. In this paper, we propose a methodology that reduces the effort developers must spend to mitigate library obsolescence. We describe the steps comprising the methodology, i.e., source code analysis, visualisation of hot areas, code-based transformation, and verification of the modified system. Also, we present some preliminary results and describe our plan for developing a fully automated software modernisation approach.

We thoroughly investigate the downlink beamforming problem of a two-tier network in a reversed time-division duplex system, where the interference leakage from a tier-2 base station (BS) toward nearby uplink tier-1 BSs is controlled through pricing. We show that soft interference control through the pricing mechanism does not undermine the ability to regulate interference leakage while giving flexibility to sharing the spectrum. Then, we analyze and demonstrate how the interference leakage is related to the variations of both the interference prices and the power budget. Moreover, we derive a closed-form expression for the interference leakage in an asymptotic case, where both the charging BSs and the charged BS are equipped with a large number of antennas, which provides further insights into the lowest possible interference leakage that can be achieved by the pricing mechanism. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

Background A method for diagnosing early stages of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is developed by analyzing human gait and training a machine learning classifier using signals obtained from inertial measurement unit. This patient-friendly and cost-effective method enables periodic monitoring, contributing to savings in treatment costs and effort. Method 145 subjects (77 healthy controls, 68 Mild Cognitive Impairment) were employed to perform seven types of gait paradigms, including normal and complex walking. The gait of the employed subjects was measured by 7 shimmer devices, which consist of a three-dimensional accelerometer and gyroscope. The acquired signal data is converted into 35 features including gait cycle. The extracted features are used to train an ensemble classifier based on machine learning with an oversampling method. In order to find the optimal combination in the ensemble model, an elimination technique was used to compare performance by removing single classifiers one by one. For performance comparison, the dataset is divided into training set/test set by leave-one-patient-out cross-validation, and several metrics such as accuracy and F1 score are used. Result The classifier for MCI detection classified severity to an accuracy of about 0.7 for 145 subjects. The combination of oversampling techniques and different single classifiers contributes to improved performance. In the seven walking experimental paradigms, the accuracy of the classification of normal walking without subtasks is about 0.67. O the other hand, the classification of walking with associative word-speaking or counting numbers shows significant results with accuracy of 0.7413 and 0.7338, respectively. Conclusion Our proposed method predicts severity through efficient walking with less space-time constraints. Detecting stops is an important task in trajectory analysis. Stops can reveal interesting aspects of a moving object behavior such as its daily routine, bottlenecks in traffic jams, or visiting times of touristic places. In order to record those traces, trajectories must be sampled and, in some cases, post-processed. This process from collecting raw data to storing them may vary according to the devices and applications that collect the data. Another important characteristic in many trajectories is the presence of noisy segments, a fact is often ignored by most stop detection methods. In this work, we present a method that exploits gaps in time and space to identify episodes of movement, stop, and periods where some classification is inconclusive, which we define as noise. In addition, our method does not rely on contextual information as opposed to some current methods, which makes our proposal also suitable for trajectories recorded in free space. © 2017 National Institute for Space research INPE. Monitoring the daily transportation modes of an individual provides useful information in many application domains, such as urban design, real-time journey recommendation, as well as providing location-based services. In existing systems, accelerometer and GPS are the dominantly used signal sources for transportation context monitoring which drain out the limited battery life of the wearable devices very quickly. To resolve the high energy consumption issue, in this paper, we present EnTrans, which enables transportation mode detection by using only the kinetic energy harvester as an energy-efficient signal source. The proposed idea is based on the intuition that the vibrations experienced by the passenger during traveling with different transportation modes are distinctive. Thus, voltage signal generated by the energy harvesting devices should contain sufficient features to distinguish different transportation modes. We evaluate our system using over 28 hours of data, which is collected by eight individuals using a practical energy harvesting prototype. The evaluation results demonstrate that EnTrans is able to achieve an overall accuracy over 92% in classifying five different modes while saving more than 34% of the system power compared to conventional accelerometer-based approaches. Customer churn prediction has been used widely in various kind of domain especially subscription-basis industries. With the rapid growth of telecommunication industry over the last decade, this industry not only focuses on providing numerous products, but also satisfying the customers as it is one of the key solutions to remain competitive. This research proposed MultiLayer Perceptron Method for churn prediction. The evaluation is compared with three classifiers which includes are Support Vector Machine, Naïve Bayes and Decision Tree in term of several aspects. In preprocessing phase, we employed Principal Component Analysis and normalization to find the correlation among all the variables. For the postprocessing, InfoGainAttribute is used to identify the highest factor attribute that leads to customer retention. It is found that MultiLayer Perceptron outperforms other classifiers and international plan plays important role to retain customer from leaving organization.

Future IoT is expected to get ubiquitous connection and access in a global scale. In the meantime, with the empowered communications capability for IoT devices, IoT will evolve to be highly autonomous, even under the help from infrastructure, and thus will gradually establish the smart IoT community. One of the major challenges imposed on the smart IoT communities is the socialization of IoT communications, because massive IoT accesses make centralized control very hard and also face the shortage of spectrum resources. Towards these issues, we in this article first present the overview and discussions on social features affecting connections among devices. Then, we motivate studies on the statistical characteristics of social features for connections among devices towards smart IoT. We further propose the queuing model under unified asymptotic analyses framework to characterize the statistical social features, with emphases on typical social metrics such as credit, reputation, centrality, etc. How to apply these features for network optimization is further suggested. Finally, we share our opinion on the open problems of social-aware design towards future smart IoT. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In this paper, we consider the problem of using flying robots to provide internet service to mobile users. Two important aspects are accounted in this context: the robot deployment problem and the relocation problem. Where to deploy the flying robots directly influences the user coverage and the quality of service, and the relocation problem looks for an efficient scheme to relocate the flying robots such that the total moving distance is minimized, with the aim of saving the previous energy resource preloaded on the flying robots. We formulate these two problems and show that the drone deployment problem is a NP-hard problem. Then, we propose a heuristic algorithm to address it. For the relocation problem, we formulate it as the conventional assignment problem and use a liner programming algorithm to solve it. We conduct extensive computer simulations to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approaches.
