Context: Proponents of the Scrum software development method use the term "Scrum But" to refer to harmful changes to Scrum. Scrum has been increasingly adopted in large software development organizations. This has led to changes to Scrum practices, but it is not known if these changes are harmful. Objective: We studied how the requirements were planned and managed in the development teams of a large Scrum organization, how well the requirements planning and management practices matched Scrum, and whether the changes were perceived harmful. Method: We quantitatively analysed 435 requirements spanning a time period of approximately one year. We conducted a total of 40 interviews to study the Scrum adoption in the organization and to explain and validate the quantitative results. Results: The main discrepancies between the organization's practices and Scrum were the pacing of the planning process, which was more akin to a continuous process instead of the iteration-paced Scrum model, and the average time it took to develop requirements, which was considerably longer than the time prescribed by Scrum. The latter discrepancy was considered slightly harmful. Conclusion: Changes to the Scrum practices should be evaluated in their context to separate harmful ones from necessary or beneficial changes mandated by the organizational context.

Cloud consumers have a variety of deployment related techniques, such as auto-scaling policies and recovery strategies, for dealing with the uncertainties in the cloud. Uncertainties can be characterized as stochastic (such as failures, disasters, and workload spikes) and subjective (such as choice among various deployment options). Cloud consumers must consider both stochastic and subjective uncertainties. Analytic support for consumers in selecting appropriate techniques and setting the required parameters in the face of different types of uncertainty is currently limited. In this paper, we propose a set of application availability analysis models that capture subjective uncertainties in addition to stochastic uncertainties. We built and validated the models by using industry best practices on deployment, and actual commercial products for disaster recovery and live migration. Our results show that the models permit more informed and quantitative availability analysis than industry best practices under a wide range of scenarios.

Awareness of emotion status of people is fairly important for aged ones, the ones with sub-health status, and various patients in order to keep them in good mood. The emotion recognition at run time is intrinsically challenging due to its complexity nature. On the one hand, the awareness of human emotion should be achieved as non-intrusive as possible. On the other hand, the android smart phones on the market are increasingly popular which are equipped with various sensors that can be used to achieve the awareness of emotion status. In this paper, we propose an approach based on the heart beat rate and contents of user's talk, which are obtained from built-in camera and microphone on smart phones. We first classify anger, joy, normal, and sadness based on heart rates, then the emotion recognition is further improved by emotional key words in a talk. We have evaluated this approach in terms of recognition accuracy and power consumption found that the accuracy can achieve 84.7%.

Pervasive computing is converging with cloud computing as with the development of smart cities. There arise the complexities from this convergence, like unprecedented large number of computing devices, flexibilities and adaptation of services for fitting personalization requirements from end users, expectations of powerful computing and storage capabilities of handhold devices, and so on. Therefore, a supporting infrastructure that can handle big data arisen from large number of devices, and can flexibly switch services at run time, is needed. Henceforth, in this paper, we propose an OSGi based pervasive cloud (OSGi-PC) infrastructure which can make use both of the cloud computing capabilities and component flexibilities from OSGi. We have evaluated the OSGi-PC in terms of performance and power consumption to show its usability.
