We address the problem of a multi-user relay network, where multiple single-antenna node pairs want to exchange information by using a multiple antenna relay node. Due to the half-duplex constraint of the relay, the exchange of information takes place in two steps. In the first step, the nodes transmit their data to the relay, while in the second step, the relay is broadcasting the data by using linear and non-linear precoding strategies. We focus on the second step in this paper. We first consider the problem of maximizing the overall rate achievable using linear and dirty-paper type precoding strategies at the relay. Then, we consider minimizing the total power at the relay subject to individual SINR constraints using the same strategies at the relay. We show that the downlink-uplink duality does not hold for the setup considered here, which is a somewhat surprising result. We also show that the beamforming strategy which is optimal in the single-pair case performs very well in the multi-pair case for practically relevant SNR. The results are illustrated by numerical simulations. ©2010 IEEE.

Teaching software engineering has been recognized as an important challenge for computer science undergraduate programs. Instruction in such area requires not only to deliver theoretical knowledge, but also to perform practical experiences that allow students to assimilate and apply such knowledge. This paper presents some results of two computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) experiences that involved students of software engineering courses from four Latin American Universities. The obtained results were satisfactory and indicate the reported collaborative activity could be appropriate to address teaching software engineering.

Product-line stability is essential to promote the longevity of its core assets and products. Even though modularity is a key principle to achieve stable product lines, many of their varying concerns are crosscutting. Aspect-oriented decompositions are aimed at fostering superior modularity of such crosscutting concerns. However, their ability to improve stability of product lines has been rarely tested and, as a consequence, their industrial adoption has been hindered. This paper presents a stability benchmark for aspect-oriented product lines. It allows characterizing, quantifying, and comparing product-line stability promoted by aspect-oriented and conventional variability mechanisms. The benchmark consists of an exemplar’s assets, from where instabilities can be concretely observed from requirements to source code. The usefulness of the benchmark has been assessed through a family of empirical studies. © 2010 SPLC 2010 - Proceedings of the 14th International software Product Line Conference. Feature-Oriented Nonfunctional Requirement Analysis for software Product Line

Domain analysis in software product line （SPL） development provides a basis for core assets design and imple- mentation by a systematic and comprehensive commonality/variability analysis. In feature-oriented SPL methods, products of the domain analysis are domain feature models and corresponding feature decision models to facilitate application-oriented customization. As in requirement analysis for a single system, the domain analysis in the SPL development should con- sider both flmctional and nonfunctional domain requirements. However, the nonfunctional requirements （NFRs） are often neglected in the existing domain analysis methods. In this paper, we propose a context-based method of the NFR analysis for the SPL development. In the method, NFRs are materialized by connecting nonfunctional goals with real-world context, thus NFR elicitation and variability analysis can be performed by context analysis for the whole domain with the assistance of NFR templates and NFR graphs. After the variability analysis, our method integrates both functional and nonfunc- tional perspectives by incorporating the nonfunctional goals and operationalizations into an initial functional feature model. NFR-related constraints are also elicited and integrated. Finally, a decision model with both functional and nonfunctional perspectives is constructed to facilitate application-oriented feature model customization. A computer-aided grading system （CAGS） product line is employed to demonstrate the method throughout the paper.

The AAAI-10 workshop program was held on July 11-12, 2010, at the Westin Peachtree Plaza in Atlanta, Georgia. The workshop program included 13 workshops covering a wide range of topics in artificial intelligence. There were several presentations on particular formalisms for combining the levels of planning from the perspectives of classical planning, motion planning, POMDPs, search-based planning, and temporal logic-based constraints. Henry Lieberman from Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Laboratory presented work developing a platform for knowledge acquisition and usage from expert users, built upon experience with eliciting information from nonexperts in a collaborative manner. The objective of the AAAI Workshop on Goal-Directed Autonomy (GDA) was to encourage discussion and novel contributions on intelligent agents that can self-select their goals. Jeremy Baxter from QinetiQ focused on user interaction, while Nick Hawes described a goal-directed reasoning framework for controlling a mobile robot.

In this paper, we propose a collaborative decision support platform that supports the product manager in defining the contents of a product release. The platform allows interactive and collaborative decision making by facilitating the exchange of information about product features among individual autonomous stakeholders, providing reputation-enhanced collaboration, ensuring a positive collaboration atmosphere by avoiding public stakeholder ratings and reconciling individual goals with group decisions.

Numerous deployments of Wireless Sensor networks (WSNs) have shown that intricate problems are introduced by deploying sensor nodes in an unknown and dynamic environment. Consequently, a vital part of a WSN deployment is the supervision of the sensor nodes and detection of abnormalities in their operation. Previous approaches have devised hand-crafted solutions to detect application-specific problems. This work proposes a generic middleware component, named MoMi, to detect such problems in a systematic way. Given a description of normal system behavior MoMi uses a Model-Based Diagnosis (MBD) framework to present the likely causes of system abnormalities to an administrator. This paper demonstrates a proof of concept implementation of MBD on sensor nodes and presents examples of its applicability for typical WSN applications. Copyright 2009 ACM.

The implementations of many seemingly simple algorithms are beyond the ability of traditional Extended Static Checking (ESC) tools to verify. Not being able to verify toy examples is often enough to turn users off of the idea of using formal methods. ESC4, the ESC component of the JML4 project, is able to verify many more kinds of methods in part because of its use of novel techniques which apply multiple theorem provers. In particular, we present Offline User-Assisted ESC (OUA-ESC), a new form of verification that lies between ESC and Full Static Program Verification (FSPV), that allows users to control the level of completeness of the tool. ESC4's improved performance should encourage greater use of static verification. Copyright 2009 ACM.

Wireless networks have contributed to the technological advance that popularized the use of mobile devices, and fostered the development of applications targeted to these devices. However, issues such as mobility and communication intermittency, as well as processing, storage and battery constraints demand changes in the traditional software testing process. This paper aims to present testing requirements that are specific to applications developed for mobile devices. We also show that these requirements can improve productivity and efficacy in the testing process of an application. © 2009 IEEE.
