Diverse Co-saliency Feature Learning for Text-Based Person Retrieval

Text-based Person Retrieval (TPR) plays a pivotal role in video surveillance systems for safeguarding public safety. As a fine-grained retrieval task, TPR faces the significant challenge of precisely capturing highly discriminative features across image and text modalities. Existing methods primarily focus on establishing modality-shared feature spaces to bridge cross-modal discrepancies. However, these methods are prone to disturbances from irrelevant information, such as background noises in the visual modality, and often over-emphasize specific local regions while neglecting the capture of diverse discriminative modal features, thereby limiting the robustness of cross-modal matching. In this paper, we introduce a novel framework, termed the Diverse Co-saliency Feature Learning Network (DCFL), which mines the co-saliency information between image and text modalities and enhances the diversity of cross-modal discriminative features while mitigating the interference of noise. Specifically, to construct cross-modal co-saliency features, we devise the Intra-modal Saliency Feature Learning (ISFL) and Cross-modal Saliency Feature Matching (CSFM) modules. ISFL employs a weighted mask mechanism to guide the model in reducing the impact of noise information in both modalities. Complementing ISFL, CSFM establishes consistent relationships between saliency features across modalities, leveraging text descriptions to align pedestrian-relevant visual regions. Furthermore, we propose the Diverse Co-saliency Feature Mining (DCFM) to bolster the diversity of discriminative co-saliency features across both image and text modalities. This module integrates a diversity regularization term, enabling the extraction of varied visual cues and capturing comprehensive features of the target individual. Extensive benchmark experiments demonstrate a substantial superiority of our approach over the state-of-the-art methods. The code will be released publicly. © 2005-2012 IEEE.

Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) is a vital application of the Internet of Things (IoT) that plays a significant role in gathering a patient's healthcare information. This collected data helps special professionals like doctors or physicians analyze patients' health status to cure different diseases. However, collecting such information from an insecure channel can be threatening due to the potential security threats. Therefore, it is crucial to secure this sensitive information. This article proposes a secure and lightweight authentication protocol for WBAN. The devised protocol is scalable, secure, and lightweight compared to various relevant competing protocols. The informal security analysis shows that the designed protocol is lightweight, secure, and efficient in resisting various major attacks. The performance analysis demonstrates our protocol's supremacy over various competing protocols in terms of computation and communication costs, inducing efficiency of 20.3% and 12.3%, respectively. Moreover, the practical performance of the designed protocol from the network point of view is measured using the widely recognized NS3 simulation tool. © 2005-2012 IEEE.

Imitation learning heavily relies on the quality of provided demonstrations. In scenarios where demonstrations are imperfect and rare, a prevalent approach for refining policies is through online fine-tuning with reinforcement learning, in which a Kullback-Leibler (KL) regularization is often employed to stabilize the learning process. However, our investigation reveals that on the one hand, imperfect demonstrations can bias the online learning process, the KL regularization will further constrain the improvement of online policy exploration. To address the above issues, we propose Iterative Regularized Policy Optimization (IRPO), a framework that involves iterative offline imitation learning and online reinforcement exploration. Specifically, the policy learned online is used to serve as the demonstrator for successive learning iterations, with a demonstration boosting to consistently enhance the quality of demonstrations. Experimental validations conducted across widely used benchmarks and a novel fixed-wing UAV control task consistently demonstrate the effectiveness of IRPO in improving both the demonstration quality and the policy performance. Nowadays, sailing in formation has been the major trend with the rise of unmanned ships. In the past, research about unmanned catamaran formation were more focused on algorithmic control, but the changes in hydrodynamic performance and energy are often overlooked. In nature, various collective behaviors indicate that followers would obtain significant energy consumption from beneficial interaction in certain formation configurations. Based on the previous research, the high-speed catamaran delft-372 was chosen as the basic numerical model in this paper. Four ship’s formation configurations (tandem, "trimaran", and rectangle formations) are proposed to analyze the influence on the hydrodynamic performance of each ship, based on the Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) method in combination with the Shear Stress Transport (SST) k-ω turbulence model. Through comparative analysis, it can be seen that the resistance and motion of the following ships have been optimized under specific formation configurations, but the impact of various formation configurations is quite different. In terms of single ship’s energy preservation, the last following ship of "trimaran" formation has the best performance. For the whole, tandem formation is the optimal fleet configuration. In conclusion, the hydrodynamic performance of four catamarans in different formation configurations has been studied, which can provide some reference significance. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Few-shot learning (FSL) aims to learn novel concepts from very limited examples. However, most FSL methods suffer from the issue of lacking robustness in concept learning. Specifically, existing FSL methods usually ignore the diversity of region contents that may contain concept-irrelevant information such as the background, which would introduce bias/noise and degrade the performance of conceptual representation learning. To address the above-mentioned issue, we propose a novel metric-based FSL method termed region-adaptive concept aggregation network or RCA-Net. Specifically, we devise a region-adaptive concept aggregator (RCA) to model the relationships of different regions and capture the conceptual information in different regions, which are then integrated in a weighted average manner to obtain the conceptual representation. Consequently, robust concept learning can be achieved by focusing more on the concept-relevant information and less on the conceptual-irrelevant information. We perform extensive experiments on three popular visual recognition benchmarks to demonstrate the superiority of RCA-Net for robust few-shot learning. In particular, on the Caltech-UCSD Birds-200-2011 (CUB200) dataset, the proposed RCA-Net significantly improves 1-shot accuracy from 74.76% to 78.03% and 5-shot accuracy from 86.84% to 89.83% compared with the most competitive counterpart.

Smart Grids (SG) rely on Home Area Networks (HAN) and Neighborhood Area Networks (NAN) to ensure efficient power distribution, real-time monitoring, and seamless communication between smart devices. Despite these advantages, the use of public communication channels in HAN and NAN networks introduces critical challenges, such as vulnerability to impersonation, physical tampering, and scalability issues in resource-constrained environments. These issues compromise the stability, reliability, and security of SG environments. Existing protocols often fail to adequately address these challenges, particularly in ensuring resistance to physical tampering of supply lines and impersonation attacks. Additionally, they struggle to minimize the computation, communication, and energy costs associated with securing a resource-constrained SG environment. Therefore, we propose a robust key exchange and tamper-resistant protocol for HAN and NAN networks to address these limitations. The proposed protocol leverages the Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) mechanism to offer physical tampering resistance to smart meters. We validate our protocol formally using the Random or Real (RoR) model, which confirms its security robustness. Additionally, our informal security analysis highlights the protocol's resilience against impersonation, physical tampering attacks, etc. We analyze and compare the performance of the proposed protocol, which further demonstrates our protocol's effectiveness and security compared to competing protocols. Moreover, the proposed protocol achieves resource efficiency with 45.99% and 58.85% substantial reductions in computation overhead and energy overhead, respectively, compared to competing protocols. These results showcase the protocol's enhanced security and practicality for resource-constrained SG environments. © 2014 IEEE.

Image watermarking algorithms have developed rapidly in recent years. Most of the Deep Neural Network(DNN)-based image watermarking algorithms embed only 30 bits or 64 bits messages in 128 × 128 images, while few algorithms embed large capacity messages. This is mainly because embedding large capacity messages will significantly influence the performance of algorithms. However, the limited capacity of these messages inhibits their effectiveness in certain data protection scenarios. Therefore, we propose a DNN-based large capacity image water-marking model. By using Stationary Wavelet Transform(SWT) and Laplacian pyramid transform, we expand the embedding capacity and achieve embedding 128 bits messages in 128 × 128 images. Experimental results show that under the same conditions, the proposed model is superior to state-of-the-art models, and has excellent performance. © 2023 IEEE.

Autonomous Vehicle (AV) usage has become predominant in the rapidly evolving landscape of urban transportation. Integrating AVs and non-AVs in the existing traffic infrastructure has significantly increased the complexity of traffic patterns. This research work primes the enhanced Traffic Management System (e-TMS), a solution implemented to expedite Emergency Vehicle (EV) travel in the context of Connected AVs (CAVs) and ensured secured communication employing Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) among the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) framework. When an EV is detected, the IoV system verifies the EV's signal using PKI, ensuring its authenticity and integrity by encrypting the communication between the EV and Road Side Units (RSUs). Further, the e-TMS activates the platooning process where CAVs in the EV's lane shift to the adjacent lanes and dynamically form platoons to create a dedicated lane for the EV. To further optimize the platooning process, an Adaptive Smart Leader Selection (ASLS) algorithm is employed to select a leader vehicle spontaneously among the AVs based on the proximity to the EV, communication reliability, and lane position. Radio Detection and Ranging devices aid this platooning process by providing distance and target velocity, which are needed to maintain the required distance between the AVs and ensure safe platoon formation. The e-TMS enhances EV response times and overall traffic flow efficiency and resulted in 27.8% increase in mean speed compared to the traditional methods. © 2014 IEEE.

In certain emergencies, patients must be continuously monitored and cared for. However, visiting the hospital to do such activities is difficult because of time constraints. To modernize the healthcare sector, the study in question presents an empirical Internet of Things and cloud-based, customizable healthcare monitoring system. Initially, a cloud-based algorithm called particle swarm intelligence (PGI) is used in the proposed healthcare monitoring system to group recorded data, hence increasing the prediction rate. Subsequently, features are selected and extracted, and back propagation neural networks (BPNN) are employed to classify healthcare for humans. In the end, the effectiveness of the suggested system is evaluated using a healthcare dataset and contrasted with current deep learning/machine learning classifiers. The suggested surveillance system performs better than the methods employed in the previous research, according to the findings. © Bharati Vidyapeeth's institute of computer Applications and Management 2024.
