Still, requirements and software design are often confused with one another. We provide a new (partial) explanation for this phenomenon, based on the insight that representations of concepts related to requirements and software design, respectively, may sometimes look very similar. This does not mean, however, that the requirements and design concepts are the same. So, we should distinguish requirements from their representations and, analogously, software design from its representation. Then it is easier to clearly distinguish requirements and software design as well.

Due to memory bandwidth limitations and computational complexity considerations in hardware implementations, block matching combined with lscr 1 error norm and translational motion model is preferred in motion-estimation algorithms. Performance of this scheme is degraded by noise, compression artifacts, rotation, repeating structures, motion boundaries, zooming, and brightness changes. In this work, we present a Bayesian approach to incorporate prior information into block matching. Hypothesis testing is utilized to choose the most applicable prior motion vector and to compute a prior motion-vector distribution and its precision. Prior distribution is then updated with motion-vector likelihood derived from pixel data to obtain the posterior distribution, which is maximized via a search on the feasible motion-vector space.

In this paper, we propose a blind watermark detection scheme for digital cinema which is robust against D-A/A-D conversion attack. D-A/A-D conversion attack commonly happens during capturing cinema with a camera and is composed of various geometrical distortions as well as signal processing distortions. In many video applications, geometric distortions have been compensated by utilizing auto-correlation function (ACF). Since the ACF cannot resist projective transform but affine transform, we present a robust watermark detection scheme utilizing local auto-correlation function (LACF) with a mathematical model. Also, we suggest a way to design watermark pattern to improve performance of the LACF. We demonstrate robustness of the presented scheme against D-A/A- D conversion attacks for digital cinema as well as common video processing attacks.

Particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is frequently employed to solve various optimization problems, but it easily gets into the local extremum in later evolution period. An improved chaos search strategy is introduced into PSO algorithm. When particles get into the local extremum, they are activated by chaos search strategy, and chaos search area are controlled in the neighborhood of the current optimal solution by reducing search area of variables, which avoids searching blindly. The new algorithm can not only solve local extremum problem effectively but also enhance the precision of convergence. Experiment results show that the proposed method is better than standard PSO algorithm in both precision and stability.

In this paper we propose an algorithm about aggressive, but partial removal of multiplexers used for sharing functional units (FUs). By eliminating some multiplexers and duplicating the FU related, the proposed algorithm could be more advantageous for low power circuits than just keeping the multiplexers. To determine whether a removal of a group of multiplexers is beneficial or not, we compared a FU with multiplexers to multiple replications of the FU without any multiplexer under various conditions. Through the experiments, we aggregated information to be used for finding appropriate multiplexers to be extricated from circuit netlist; using the information, we built an automated algorithm to remove particular multiplexers; we applied it to a netlist of 16 bit processor. The processor that is newly generated by the algorithm consumed average about 12% less power than the initial processor.

The rapid technology advances enable healthcare system to monitor physiological signals in human's daily life. The wearable healthcare system should be not only small and easy for users to wear them but accurate in measuring physiological signals in daily life without any inconvenience. To meet these requirements we propose a headband-style device to be easily wearable, smart headband. It measures a photo-plethysmography (PPG) signal at the forehead for monitoring the heart rate and acceleration signals for counting the number of steps. For the precise measurement, we adopt adaptive noise cancellation (ANC). Smart headband can provide the healthcare service to monitor the health state and to alert emergency situation.

In this paper, we propose an auto-decision system KMCD, which helps remote students choose their majors. The system is based on knowledge of students who want to choose majors and students who have finished their studies. KMCD is a first-order reasoning system equipped with an uncertain reasoning function. A description of KMCD is given in details. The whole decision procedure is comprehensively discussed, which shows the effectiveness and the reasonableness of the system. Examples in the paper illustrate how KMCD can help remote students make their decisions in major-choosing.

Automated static timing analysis methods provide a safe but usually overestimated worst-case execution time (WCET). Overestimation is mainly due to the existence of the execution paths that turn out to be infeasible or unrealistic when dynamic behavior of the program or environmental assumptions are fully considered. In this paper, we propose a new method and a visual language called user constraint language (UCL) to obtain a tight WCET estimation. In our method, both the program and flow information are represented by single formalism-finite automata. UCL provides intuitive visual notations with which users can easily specify various levels of flow information to characterize the execution paths of program. The user constraints specified in UCL are translated into finite automata. The combined automaton constructed by a cross-production of the automata for program and user constraints reflects the static structure and possible dynamic behavior of the program. It contains only the execution paths satisfying user constraints from which we can obtain a tight WCET using a path-based or implicit path enumeration technique (IPET)-based calculation method. A case study using part of a satellite flight software program demonstrates the effectiveness of UCL and our approach.

MemoryIO, a sort of extended I/O in embedded systems, is presented in this paper. MemoryIO makes it powerful for embedded systems to achieve the high-performance interconnect. In view of the facts that the main memory system is absolutely necessary in any embedded system, and not all embedded systems integrate HyperTransport (HT), PCI Express or RapidIO interface, the MemoryIO based interconnect in embedded systems has more universalities compared with that based on HT, PCI Express or RapidIO. MemoryIO can not only thoroughly compensates for the lack of high performance data transfer channel, but also efficiently utilizes the memory bus bandwidth and the direct memory access (DMA) engine to reduce the latency for data transfer in embedded systems. This paper discusses some key technologies of MemoryIO, and presents its application in DCNet and the implementation of MemoryIO IP core. The MemoryIO technology can be used in various systems, but not limited to embedded systems.

The wearable healthcare system should be not only small and easy for users to wear them but accurate in measuring physiological signals in daily life without any inconvenience. To meet these requirements, we propose the U-healthcare System which consists of a Smart Headband and a Health-state Monitor program. It can monitor the health-state in walking and running. The Smart Headband measures a photo-plethysmography (PPG) signal at the forehead for monitoring the heart rate and acceleration signals. The Health-state Monitor program is developed to show the health-state. Health-state Monitor program is operated in the handheld computer, such like (Ultra Mobile Personal computer (UMPC). It provides the user PPG, heart rate and steps for the precise measurement, Adaptive Noise Cancellation (ANC) is introduced. The Smart Headband and the Health-state Monitor program are communicated by the WPAN using Zigbee protocol. If the heart rate is higher or lower than usual, the Health-state Monitor program sends the SMS message to the designated person, such as family or the attending physician in the medical center, to inform the emergency situation.
