Recent changes in data management within post-genomic clinical trials have emphasized the need for novel methods and tools to solve semantic and syntactic heterogeneities among distributed sources of information. ACGT is an Integrated Project funded by the European Commission that aims at building a GRID-based platform comprised by a set of tools to support multicentric post-genomic clinical trials on cancer. The main goal of ACGT is to provide seamless access to heterogeneous sources of information. For this purpose, two core tools were developed and included in the ACGT architecture: the ACGT Semantic Mediator (ACGT-SM), and the Data Access Wrappers (ACGT-DAWs). The ACGT-SM addresses semantics and schema integration, while the ACGT-DAWs cope with syntactic heterogeneities. Once the sources are bridged together, they can be seamlessly accessed using the RDQL query *** tested our tools using a set of three relational and DICOM based image sources obtaining promising results.

Home services are all kind of services which are provided in home environment. Legacy researches was focused on controlling home devices and appliances. And recent works focus on the multimedia services. In the future, devices existing in the home would infer the status and intention of users and provide intelligent home services without much intervention of users. To do this, there must be context-aware technologies [1]. This research focused on the ontology which is the core technology of the context information management [2]. Through developing ontology for the home services, we classified services into several categories and, described requirements for the service execution. And then, we adopted the ontology for the intelligent home service framework called iHSF. Ontology designed for the home services consists of the concept of users, places (semantic locations), environment around the specific places, devices and individual services and subordinate concepts of them, which all concepts have properties and relations among them [2]. Ontology for the iHSF has form of RDF (Resource Description Framework) [3, 4, 5] and OWL (Web Ontology Language) [6, 7] in order to be interpreted by devices. Ontology should mirror the constantly varying environment of the home dynamically. iHSF using well-designed ontology reacts to the constantly varying context on a real time basis.

The inclusion of edge diffraction has long been recognized as an improvement to geometrical-acoustics (GA)modeling techniques, particularly for acoustic simulations of complex environments that are represented as collections of finite-sized planar surfaces. One particular benefit of combining edge diffraction with GA components is that the resulting total sound field is continuous when an acoustic source or receiver crosses a specular-zone or shadow-zone boundary, despite the discontinuity experienced by the associated GA *** interactive acoustic simulations which include only GA components, such discontinuities may be heard as clicks or other undesirable audible artifacts, and thus diffraction calculations are important for high perceptual quality as well as physical realism. While exact diffraction calculations are difficult to compute at interactive rates, approximate calculations are possible and sufficient for situations in which the ultimate goal is a perceptually plausible simulation rather than a numerically exact one. In this paper, we describe an edge-subdivision strategy that allows for fast time-domain edge-diffraction calculations with relatively low error when compared with results from a more numerically accurate solution. The tradeoff between computation time and accuracy can be controlled with a number of parameters, allowing the user to choose the speed that is necessary and the error that is tolerable for a specific modeling scenario.

This paper presents a real-time method to estimate upper human posture using a stereo vision embedded system. Because of using the stereo vision system that produces precise disparity image, it is possible to execute real-time posture estimation with high accuracy. Proposed method is as follows. By using image processing and trigonometry, the positions of head and hands were acquired and discriminated. Using these positions, shoulder positions are estimated. Finally, inverse kinematics is applied to estimate positions of elbows. The experimental result is presented to support validity of the real-time system and the algorithm.

In this research, a quadruped robot using an embedded system connected to the tele-operation server and wireless sensor network was developed By using the ***21 embedded system, this robot transmits the MPEG 4 image sequence to the tele-operation server, and face detection and following control are performed in the server. The developed robot has 12 DOF 4 legs and 2 DOF pan-tilt actuators. As the developed robot is moving gateway for sensor network, it gathers home circumstance data from various networked sensors and make up for dead zone of sensor network. This robot can be applied to home security system with sensor network.

Nonsubsampled contourlet transform (NSCT) provides flexible multiresolution, anisotropy and directional expansion for images. Compared with the foremost contourlet transform, it is shift-invariant and can overcome the pseudo-Gibbs phenomena around singularities. In addition, coefficients of NSCT are dependent on their neighborhood coefficients in the local window and cousin coefficients in directional subbands. In this paper, region energy and cousin correlation are defined to represent the neighbors and cousins information, respectively. Salience measure, as the combination of region energy and cousin correlation, is defined to obtain fused coefficients in the high-frequency NSCT domain. First, source images are decomposed into subimages via NSCT. Secondly, salience measure is computed. Thirdly, salience measure-maximum-based rule and average rule are employed to obtain high-frequency and low-frequency coefficients, respectively. Finally, fused image is reconstructed by inverse NSCT. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms wavelet-based fusion algorithms and contourlet transform-based fusion algorithms.

Several artificial intelligent methods, including support vector regression (SVR), artificial neural networks (ANNs), and partial least square (PLS) are used for the multivariate calibration in the determination of the three aromatic amino acids (phenylalanine, tyrosine and tryptophan) in their mixtures by fluorescence spectroscopy. The results of the leave-one-out method show that SVR perform better than other methods, and appear to be good methods for this task. Furthermore, feature selection is performed for SVR to remove redundant features and a novel algorithm named PRIFER (prediction risk based feature selection for support vector regression) is proposed. Results on the above multivariate calibration data set show that PRIFER is a powerful tool for solving the multivariate calibration problems.

software risk advisory tools have been developed to support Verification and Validation (V&V) processes for NASA flight projects on the Constellation program. The Orthogonal Defect Classification COnstructive QUALity MOdel (ODC COQUALMO) predicts software defects introduced and removed classifying them with ODC defect types, allowing various tradeoff analyses. We have been exploring methods to design and optimize V&V processes with static and dynamic versions of the quality model by integrating it with different risk minimization techniques. These techniques allow "what-if" experimentation to determine the impact of V&V techniques on specific risks and overall flight risk. V&V techniques are quantified from a value-based perspective when the defect model is integrated with machine learning, strategic optimization and JPL's Defect Detection and Prevention (DDP) risk management method. Results to-date show that the automated methods are practical for flight projects to design higher value V&V processes in shorter time and with fewer resources.

An overview of the concept of program similarity is presented. It divides similarity into two types-syntactic and semantic-and provides a review of eight categories of methods that may be used to measure program similarity. A summary of some applications of these methods is included.
