As Web resources and information are becoming numerous, many researchers have studied automated processing of the resources and information. In addition, semantic Web services make the Web services represented to be machine-interpretable through the semantic Web. Semantic Web services discovery systems, such as matchmaker, find proper semantic Web services for a client. However, it is mainly focused on semantic similarities between description instances and requests containing single input and output. In our design, annexed algorithm improves matching algorithm to arrange the result advertisements according to the client's conveniences for executing the Web services; less re-scheduling, less meaningless data. It also offers effective discovery services especially for the request with multiple inputs and outputs and in condition that there are no perfectly matched Web services or available Web services. Moreover, we implement the matching engine in URCSD (semantic Web services discovery for URC) for an intelligent agent, such as URC (ubiquitous robotic companion), through the proposed algorithm. Therefore, we expect the system provides effective discovery services for network based robotics and intelligent agents

This paper describes a data replication service for large-scale, data intensive applications whose results can be shared among geographically distributed scientists. We introduce two kinds of data replication techniques, called owner-initiated data replication and client-initiated data replication, that are developed to support data replica consistency without requiring any special file system-level locking functions. Also, we present performance results on Linux clusters located at Sejong University. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2006.

In ubiquitous environment, various kinds of devices such as automated appliances and sensing devices exist for providing user with convenient services. However, in order to use such devices with felicity, people should have proper knowledge how to exploit and operate it through heterogeneous interfaces. Then, to enable human user to utilize the devices easily, the integrated interface, employing them with knowledge of them at ad-hoc manner, is necessarily needed. Therefore, to generate the adaptive interface for user in the environment, we propose an adaptive user controller exploiting the representation of devices through semantic descriptions. The devices in the environment are marked up with semantic description which can offer the logic describing information resources with semantics. The controller discovers the service devices, and it constructs the interfaces dynamically using knowledge for effective arrangement and user preference adaptation. We expect the system will dynamically provide user interfaces which make users control environment continuously without spatial restrictions. In addition, it can offer complex services with multiple devices using knowledge and defined rule through simple visualized interface

For over ten years Rose-Hulman has required all incoming students to purchase an institute-selected laptop computer and an associated suite of software. Students use their laptops in classrooms on a daily basis. More recently, we have begun to ask: What is beyond the laptop initiative? One possible answer is a combination of pen-based Tablet PCs and interaction-enhancing software like DyKnow Vision. This paper reports: our innovative use of DyKnow Vision software and Tablet PCs (hereafter, DyKnow/Tablets") to promote active learning in the classroom;similarities/differences in our approach across 7 courses covering engineering, humanities and science and involving more than 20% of Rose-Hulman's students;and studies that assess how DyKnow/Tablets affect student learning. Thus, the paper presents an innovative direction that engineering education may take as well as an assessment of some aspects of that direction. © 2006 IEEE.

Work along with the property of error diffuse halftoning a multi-scale interpolating pyramid transform on two dimension is constructed with the nonlinear median operator. Having investigated the transform distribution of halftone noise in the approximation and the detail on each-scale, the de-noising method is studied through many experiments, and an inverse halftoning algorithm based on the expanded median-interpolating pyramid transform (EMIPT) is proposed. Firstly the method decomposes halftoning image by the transform in one-scale, and a Wiener filter is applied to the detail coefficient. Then an inverse image is reconstructed from the cleaned detail and the approximation. Experiments show that the proposed transform can separate the halftone noise and the image detail better than linear multi-scale transform. And the inverse halftoning method based on it includes some excellent performances such as smoothing the halftone patterns, efficient edge preserving ability, high PSNR and small memory requirement

For a service robot to be more human friendly, it is required to have various emotional interactions with human. Inspired from both neuroscience and cognitive science, this paper proposes a dynamic robot affective system that can have various emotional states at the same time and express those combined emotions just like humans do. The system comprises three modules: an appraisal module, an emotion-generation module, and an emotional expression module. The appraisal module has responsibility for gathering environmental information and evaluating whether external stimuli are rewarding or punishing. Based on the appraisal results and the homeostasis, the emotion-generation module generates affective states of the robot. The emotional expression module, then, combines and expresses emotional behaviors in accordance with the current affective states (e.g., producing facial expressions). As a result, the robot affective system can generate various emotions simultaneously and produces various emotional expressions continuously, just like human's sequential or parallel execution of emotional behaviors

This paper describes a multi-objective parameter-less genetic algorithm (moPGA), which combines several recent developments including efficient non-dominated sorting, linkage learning, isin-Dominance, building-block mutation and convergence detection. Additionally, a novel method of clustering in the objective space using an isin-Pareto Set is introduced. Comparisons with well-known multi-objective GAs on scalable benchmark problems indicate that the algorithm scales well with problem size in terms of number of function evaluations and quality of solutions found. moPGA was built for easy usage and hence, in addition to the problem function and encoding, there are only two required user defined parameters; (1) the maximum running time or generations and (2) the precision of the desired solutions (isin).

Under visualization idea based on large-scale dismantling and sharing, the implementing of network interconnection of calculation components and storage components by loose coupling, which are tightly coupling in traditional server, achieves computing capacity, storage capacity and service capacity distribution according to need in application-level. Under the new server model, the segregation and protection of user space and system space as well as the security monitoring of virtual resources are the important factors of ultimate security guarantee. This article presents a large-scale and expansible distributed invasion detection system of virtual computing environment based on virtual machine. The system supports security monitoring management of global resources and provides uniform view of security attacks under virtual computing environment, thereby protecting the user applications and system security under capacity services domain.

An orthogonal hill-climbing algorithm for dynamic optimization problems with continuous variables (labeled ODHC ) is proposed in present paper. The local peak climber is not a solution x, but rather a "niche", a small hyperrectangle. An orthogonal design method is employed on the niches for the niche to climb a potentially peak fast. An archive is used to store the latest found higher peaks for the ODHC algorithm learning from the past search. The randomly creating niches implement the global search. Numerical experiments show that the ODHC algorithm performs a lot better than the SOS (self organizing scouts) algorithm [J. Branke, T. Kaufler, C. Schmidt, and H. Schmeck. There are rather few articles in the literature so far that deal with dynamic multi-objective optimization problems. This article introduces a dynamic orthogonal multi-objective evolutionary algorithm called "DOMOEA", that generalizes an earlier paper of ours (on an orthogonal multi-objective evolutionary algorithm (OMOEA-II) (Zeng et al., 2005)) to dynamic environments. DOMOEA solves a particular class of dynamic multi-objective optimization problems, namely those that have continuous decision variables. This new algorithm uses the evolutionary results, before any environmental change, as the initial population after the environmental change. It applies an "orthogonal design method" to enhance the fitness of the population during the static stages between two successive changes of environment. We obtained satisfactory results when testing this algorithm against the benchmark problems proposed in the literature. Our new algorithm is based on an ordinary evolutionary algorithm that does not have the capacity to detect environmental changes. Hence it has a comparatively simple structure, making comparisons with other dynamic multi-objective evolutionary algorithms relatively easy.
