Many groupware systems have been used for communication between personal computers (PCs) in companies. However, the demand for groupware systems is growing. Cue to the spread of mobile phone users and systems, new mobile phone groupware systems are needed. In groupware systems, the location information function which is used to find the location of group members is a very important function for smoothing group activities. In this paper, we propose a mobile phone groupware system using location information function. By resolving problems of the location information function of the Devora system, we improve the performance of the proposed mobile phone groupware system. The evaluation results show that our system operates smoothly and the communication cost is decreased.

Ad-hoc recycling between requirements documents of product variants is a major source of requirements defects. We present an approach for systematic requirements recycling based on a combination of abstraction (in terms of a template) and traceability (between requirements). The main features of our approach are the use of conceptual models to determine relationships necessary for correct recycling and the focus on minimizing link selling. This approach can also be used to develop abstraction and traceability guidelines tailored to other application domains and traceability goals, such as change or project management.

In order to support multimedia communication over high speed networks, it is necessary to develop routing algorithms which use for routing more than one QoS parameter. This is because new services such as video on demand and remote meeting systems require better QoS. However, the problem of QoS routing is difficult and to find a feasible route with two independent path constraints is NP-complete. Therefore, QoS routing algorithms for high speed networks must be adaptive, flexible, and intelligent for efficient network management. In a previous work, we proposed a genetic algorithm (GA) based routing method. This method used only the delay time as a routing parameter. In this paper we improve the previous work in three aspects. The new QoS routing method uses two QoS parameters for routing. We implemented a new tree generating algorithm which generates and reduces the tree automatically. Furthermore, we carried out the simulations for different kinds of networks. The simulation results show that the proposed method has a better performance than a conventional GA based routing algorithm.

With the spread of the Internet, the number of users and hosts has been increased exponentially. Also, newly emerging services try to provide users with more enhanced quality of service (QoS). The increase of users and hosts and the enhancement of QoS have caused a radical increase of Internet traffic. As a result, it is very difficult for users to find required information and the information location. In this paper we propose a matchmaking recruiting system over the Internet. Our system is based on agent technology. The agent carries out the matchmaking using a knowledge base the same as human beings. By using the agent, the proposed system is able to get the best matching data and decrease the Internet load.

Aboard current ships, such as the DDG 51, engineering control and damage control activities are manpower intensive. It is anticipated that, for future combatants, the workload demand arising from operation of systems under conditions of normal steaming and during casualty response will need to be markedly reduced via automated monitoring, autonomous control, and other technology initiatives. Current DDG 51 class ships can be considered as a manpower baseline and under Condition III typical engineering control involves seven to eight watchstanders at manned stations in the Central Control Station, the engine rooms and other machinery spaces. In contrast to this manning level, initiatives such as DD 21 and the integrated engineering plant (IEP) envision a partnership between the operator and the automation system, with more and more of the operator's functions being shifted to the automation system as manning levels decrease. This paper describes some human systems integration studies of workload demand reduction and, consequently, manning reduction that can be achieved due to application of several advanced technology concepts. Advanced system concept studies in relation to workload demand are described and reviewed including. Piecemeal applications of diverse automation and remote control technology concepts to selected high driver tasks in current DDG 51 activities. Development of the reduced ship's crew by virtual presence system that will provide automated monitoring and display to operators of machinery health, compartment conditions, and personnel health. The IEP envisions the machinery control system as a provider of resources that are used by various consumers around the ship. Resource needs and consumer priorities are at all times dependent upon the ship's current mission and the availability of equipment pawnbrokers.

The field of software economics seeks to develop technical theories, guidelines, and practices of software development based on sound, established, and emerging models of value and value-creation - adapted to the domain of software development as necessary. The premise of the field is that software development is an ongoing investment activity - in which developers and managers continually make investment decisions requiring the expenditure of valuable resources, such as time, talent, and money. The overriding aim of this activity is to maximize the value added subject to an equitable distribution among the participating stakeholders. The goal of the paper is to expose the audience to this line of thinking and introduce the tools pertinent to its pursuit.
