Sound simulators are well known tools by NVH engineers for the development and the assessment of sound inside vehicles. To accurately reproduce a target vehicle's sound characteristics in a variety of driving circumstances, a precise acoustic model of that vehicle is necessary. A first approach consists in recording in-vehicle overall sound at driver's ear position for different driving maneuvers and then decompose it for each acoustic source. Alternatively, using the component based TPA technology, invariant load measurements can be used to estimate the partial contribution to the in-cabin target without the need of a vehicle prototype. These two approaches allow the realization of a realistic model that could reproduce the equivalent sound perception at the target position. The combination of the sound modeling and the real-time synthesis technology enables the user to evaluate the vehicle sound for different driving scenarios while interacting with the simulator. This paper proposes some innovative solutions for the sound generation and decomposition process, applied to a battery electric vehicle. The produced model is tested on a NVH vehicle simulator and assessed through acoustic and psychoacoustic metrics. © ICA *** rights reserved

This research introduces a novel Probabilistic Graph Modeling-based Safety Classifier Algorithm designed for the purpose of classifying road safety in smart transportation systems. Leveraging a combination of numerical integration methods and Gaussian kernel density estimation models, the proposed algorithm offers an effective approach to assess and categorizing the safety levels of roads. The integration of these techniques enables a comprehensive analysis, allowing for a more nuanced understanding of the complex interactions within transportation networks. The algorithm's efficacy in road safety classification holds promising implications for enhancing traffic management and promoting safer urban environments. © 2024 The Authors. This paper presents, through a rear axle electric powertrain application case, a framework that enables an innovative process by combining the Virtual Prototype Assembly (VPA) and the Vehicle Sound Simulator (VSS) technologies. In the VPA analysis, a set of free velocities measured at the interface between the electric drive unit and rear axle carrier are used to predict, through a dynamic substructuring approach, the e-powertrain in-cabin contribution up to 4kHz. The results generated by the VPA for the e-powertrain are integrated with spectral information obtained from full vehicle operational measurements and used to synthesize the sound of the virtual assembly perceived at the driver's ears in real-time, enabling live synthesis and component balancing in a Driver-in-the-Loop simulator. As a validation, the component-based synthesis results are compared with full vehicle noise recordings in different scenarios. This article presents a study on the effectiveness of electrocoagulation (EC) for the removal of azo dyes from wastewater. The analysis was performed using a combination of statistical methods, including density estimation, correlation analysis, and deep learning for electrocoagulation performance prediction. The results showed that electrocoagulation was able to effectively remove azo dyes from the wastewater, considering the energy consumption and the mass of flocs being important factors in the process. Deep Learning (DL) is used to build our predictive model using the datasets collected during the experimentation stage. Overall, the findings suggest that electrocoagulation is a promising technique for the treatment of wastewater containing azo dyes, and that the use of statistical and machine learning methods can aid in the optimization of the process. © 2024 The Authors. The global ageing population presents significant challenges, with healthcare systems strained to meet the needs of an increasingly elderly demographic. Societies face issues related to healthcare costs, caregiving, and maintaining quality of life for seniors. This paper investigates the impact of a prototype Virtual Reality (VR) exergame application designed for musculoskeletal exercise and rehabilitation of senior users. The system employs an omnidirectional treadmill that combines VR with physical activity, offering immersive experiences while engaging in therapeutic exercises. This application provides an opportunity to senior users, to stay active whilst in the comfort of their home. The application has been evaluated by ten users providing encouraging results. The paper concludes with the presentation of the results and a future plan to further explore the immersive nature of VR and its impact on enhancing motivation and promoting better overall well-being for the senior population.

software Process Improvement (SPI) encompasses the analysis and modification of the processes within software development, aimed at improving key areas that contribute to the organizations’ goals. The task of evaluating whether the selected improvement path meets these goals is challenging. Based on the results of a systematic literature review on SPI measurement and evaluation practices, we developed a framework (SPI-MEF) that supports the planning and implementation of SPI evaluations. SPI-MEF guides the practitioner in scoping the evaluation, determining measures and performing the assessment. SPI-MEF does not assume a specific approach to process improvement and can be integrated in existing measurement programs, refocusing the assessment on evaluating the improvement initiative’s outcome. Sixteen industry and academic experts evaluated the framework’s usability and capability to support practitioners, providing additional insights that were integrated in the application guidelines of the framework.
