Architectural Design Decisions (ADD) form a key element of Architectural Knowledge (AK), which plays a vital role in the software architecture process. To help manage ADDs, several tools have been proposed. However, most of them have prescribed fixed data models to be followed and do not provide sufficient customizability. Mismatches between a tool's data model and users' specific needs make the tool less usable, or even unusable. We propose a highly customizable solution that enables users to define specialized ADD models according to the specific needs of their individual preferences and working situations to achieve perfect fitness between the required model by users and the provided model by the tool. The results of the initial evaluation of the proposed solution are encouraging. © 2010 IEEE.

software reliability is defined as the probability of failure-free operation for a period of time, under certain conditions. To determine whether the reliability of an application satisfies the reliability requirements, User Acceptance Testing is performed at deployment sites. To support the wide variation in configurations and usage patterns, User Acceptance Testing has become a crucial step in large deployments of mission-critical applications. However, verifying the long-term reliability of an application requires lengthy on-site engagements and dedicated use of costly lab setups. In this paper, we propose a technique to reduce the time and cost needed for User Acceptance Testing. We use a repository of execution logs from related deployments and prior tests of the application to mine reliability estimates. We then customize these estimates by mining logs generated from a limited-time User Acceptance Test (i.e., one day of testing) instead of from traditionally longer tests (e.g., one week of testing). Deployers of applications can use such customized estimates to determine whether an application satisfies their reliability requirements. Through a case study on a large-scale enterprise application, we show that our reliability estimate lies within 4% of the reliability estimate derived from the longer User Acceptance Tests.

This paper presents an innovative style-wise advertising platform for web page. Web page "style" mainly refers to visual effects, such as color and layout. Unlike the most popular ad-network such as Google AdSense which needs publishers to change the original structure of their pages and define the position and style of the embedded ads manually, style-wise page advertising aims to automatically deliver style-consistent ads at proper positions within the web page, without breaking the layout of the original page. Our system is motivated from the fact that almost 90% web pages contain blank regions without any content. Given a web page with some blank regions, style-wise page advertising is able to detect the suitable blank areas for advertising, rank the ads according to the semantic relevance and web page style, and embed relevant ads into these nonintrusive areas. Style-wise page advertising represents one of the first attempts towards contextual advertising which enables the publishers to save effort when applying online advertising services. © 2010 International World Wide Web Conference Committee (IW3C2).

Ad-Hoc network is a collection of wireless mobile nodes without any fixed base station infrastructure and centralized management. Each node acting as both a host and a router moves arbitrarily and communicates with others via multiple wireless links. The primary application for ad hoc networks has been for military operations. As the military has become more dependent on computer networks, it has sought to develop a resilient, mobile networking architecture to support network-centric warfare. In this paper we proposes a new routing model composed of K-means and AODV algorithms for path energy as an additional metric for routing. The motive behind this effort is to study the effect of the added metric on improving the lifespan of the Ad-Hoc communication network and the corresponding effect on the overall network performance.

We present the design of pService system for P2P Web services discovery supporting similarity earch with its locality-preserving feature based on modified Skip Graph. In pService, the most important property (e.g. service name) of a service is viewed as the indexing key of a peer node. The other properties are extracted as multiattributes which would be mapped into one-dimensional indices using HSFC (Hilbert Space Filling Curve), and assigned to membership vector of the peer node. These two features help to support similarity search in two aspects: peer nodes with similar indexing keys would be distributed neighborly, peer nodes with similar indices will connect to each other through routing table. Our evaluation showed that the pService performs considerable Web services discovery efficiency. © 2009 IEEE.

This paper discusses an approach to automated evaluation of multi-document summarization by computing the similarities of automated summaries and human summaries and scoring the automated summaries by their similarities to the human ones. Several schemes are used in our experiment, as well as the effects of stop words and stemming. Our method experimental result is compared to Rouge which is based on n-gram. The test materials for experiments are from DUC 2005 corpus. The results show that our novel scheme produces acceptable results, and may avoid some defects of n-gram. © 2008 IEEE.

In this paper, we describe a multimodal error correction mechanism. It allows the user to correct errors in continuous handwriting recognition naturally by simultaneously using pen gesture and speech. A multimodal fusion algorithm is designed to enhance recognition accuracies of handwriting and speech through cross-modal influence. We have performed preliminary evaluation experiments and the results show that this multimodal mechanism can efficiently correct the errors in continuous handwriting recognition.

Web services constitute a promising technology to support autonomic computing. Automatic discovery of new services, their composition and binding based on Quality of Service (QoS) are just some of the most promising features that can be provided using web services. In other words, a service oriented system is able to automatically discover, bind, and use, at run time, the services that, among those available, offer a given piece of functionality with a QoS compatible with the system non-functional requirements. This paper describes our work-in-progress related to the development of an electronic marketplace, named C3 (Creation, Certification and Classification of Services) to enable the publication, semantic discovery, service buying, SLA negotiation and QoS-aware composition and replanning. The marketplace is mainly targeted to corporate intranets, although its technologies and approaches can be easily exported to a wider scenario. Copyright 2005 ACM.

Meshfree methods have been well recognized for their capability of delivering high solution accuracy for large strain problems. To make the methods available for manufacturing applications, over the past two years we have further developed the Element‐Free‐Galerkin‐based meshfree shell formulation for better solution accuracy and computation efficiency, and implemented the method into the commercial solver, LS‐DYNA. This paper presents the application of the meshfree shell formulation in the study of NUMISHEET 2005 benchmark testing example, that is, forming analysis of an automotive decklid inner panel. Both the physical drawbead geometry and its effective line bead model are considered in the simulations to study the effect of different drawbead modeling schemes on the accuracy of the forming analysis. The meshfree simulations are compared with the best available finite element analysis in terms of solution accuracy.

In this paper we introduce a new algorithm for planar orthogonal drawing of complete binary trees on the surface of a given simple rectilinear polygon. Our algorithm aims to uniformly distribute the vertices of the given tree on the given surface and to reduce the total number of edge bends as much as possible. We also introduce a new linear time algorithm for bisecting simple (rectilinear) polygons, assuming the straight skeletons of the polygons are given. To our knowledge, this paper and the previous works of the authors are the first attempts for developing algorithms that draw trees on 2D surfaces which are bounded by simple (rectilinear) polygons.
